They have taken great care of us. Responsive to our needs and concerns long after the completion of their work.

When I had to take over my parents house I discovered that I needed a new roof put on the house and…read moreso I called Lyster's because I knew they were the best contractor for the job. They came to the house and worked with me to get the roof done right away . In the end they were able to do the whole roof including replacing some boards as well . They were so easy and great to work with. I got a fantastic price and so I hired them to do the job. I have never regretted hiring them to do the job and they also took the time to completely replace all the gutters too. I recently was told by another company that I was in need of a new roof and probably some boards too. The guy said that I had black mold in my attic as well. The guy was from Top Home Improvements. I had went to the Senior Expo a couple of weeks ago and they had a both there so I signed up to get a quote and roof inspection. I would never ever use that company to do anything on my house ever! The guy outright lied to me and the pictures he said that he showed me indicating that I definitely needed to get my roof replaced and have some other repairs too. In the end I showed everything to the guy from Lysters and he pointed out to me that the first pictures he had taken were of my house but the pictures he showed me of what was supposedly my with damaged shingles and supposedly some soft spots in the roof. Indicating that I also needed some boards replaced too. In the end the guy from Lysters went up on my roof and looked it completely over then said to me your roof is in great shape and he also told me that if I had a leak in the roof causing black mold to grow in there then the water leak would also have gone down to the main level of the house and I would have water spots showing up. I have no water spots anywhere in the upstairs of my home. Once again just proving that I was actually lied to. The great news was I not only didn't need a new roof at all and the one I have now is going to be fine for at least another 10 to probably 15 years. I felt so relieved because the quote from Top Home Improvement was for just under $35,000.00 ! I can assure you that if I ever need work done on my home I will never call anyone but Lyster's to do the job. As for Top Home Improvement I would never use them for any job. I'm just so angry that they outright lied to me and almost cost me a substantial amount of money that was never necessary to spend whatsoever. I guess I would say buyer beware of who you call to do important work on your home. By not getting a second opinion I would have spent a huge amount of money that wasn't really necessary at all. I have also learned that from now on before I hire any company to do work on my home I'll definitely be checking with the Better Business Bureau too. They collect information about all kinds of companies and post the reviews of what other people have had to say about the company.

After installation, we began experiencing water intrusion issues that were not present before. This…read morewinter did bring more severe ice dams than we have experienced in past years; however, the leakage has occurred only in specific areas of the home. In reviewing those areas, we observed visible gaps between the drip edge and the gutters. Other sections of the home, where the gutter and drip edge align properly, do not show the same issues. The gutter installation appears inconsistent, with some sections installed correctly and others not. When we reported the problem, the company recommended using a roof rake and applying salt to manage ice buildup. This was not something we had ever needed to do previously, but we followed their guidance and took those steps as instructed. We were later told that the gutters were installed "the best they could be" due to existing fascia and rafter conditions, and that wire was used in some locations instead of straps. We were never notified during the installation that these conditions existed, nor were we given the opportunity to discuss alternative solutions or address them at the time. Additionally, we did not receive a post-installation inspection or walkthrough. (Despite requesting one when we received our invoice three or four weeks later.) Had we been informed of the installation challenges or provided a final inspection, we could have addressed concerns earlier and potentially avoided additional damage. We understand our home is older and that renovation projects can uncover unexpected issues. However, clear communication and transparency are especially important in those situations. We chose this company in part because of the many positive reviews and the reputation they have built. We understand that mistakes can happen on any project. What matters most to us is how those issues are communicated and addressed. In this case, we expected the same level of integrity and accountability through challenges as is shown during successful projects. We are sharing this review to provide an honest account of our experience and to encourage clearer communication, transparency around installation challenges, and post-installation inspections for future customers. We were never notified of fascia or gutter issues when we discussed the job nor was it in the estimate or notes. We did discuss the age of the gutters at which point I asked if they should be replaced before or during install and was told no, they wouldn't affect anything. We removed the snow as instructed immediately. We applied salt. We asked up front if the gutters were moved and/or lowered during install and were told yes. And I watched them move them as I was home during the install. We're not asking for much, just accountability and honesty. And the first substantial snowfall in Portage, Michigan was November 29 when we received nine inches. Then into early December. On December 7, we noticed the first leaks and I reached out that day with photos. Nothing was inspected when someone came out after that and we were told to apply salt and rake the roof, which we did. The statement about weeks later is highly inaccurate. And the leak was immediately after, there was no "pulling down" of the gutters.

I needed a roofing company that would honor the home's architecture and landscaping, comply with the historic district requirements, and replace it at a reasonable price. I also knew the steep pitch and jutting angles meant the crew would have to be very careful to avoid getting hurt. The salesperson, Matt, seemed to understand the importance of maintaining the exterior's appearance, while also assuring his crew's safety. We talked before the job started about assuring both goals, and I appreciated that he shared the plan with me. Sherriff Goslin wasn't the cheapest quote, but they seemed to have the best knowledge and understanding about re-roofing a historic home. I'm so glad that I chose them for the project! They brought in a JLG to access the steep pitches - and the crew seemed very aware of the hazards and how to work safely - so there weren't any accidents. They were also mindful of my fencing and landscaped yard. They even replaced some rotten boards on the wood fencing after they repositioned the fence to get the JLG in and out. The salesperson, Matt, didn't disappear after I signed the contract, either. He was on-site every day, texting updates and asking if I had any concerns throughout the project. I did not - in fact - I was quite impressed! Besides being safety-minded and diligent in working on the project, the crew were also respectful to myself and my 20-year-old daughter. Since she comes and goes to college alone each day, I really appreciate that the crew treated her with respect. The crew always greeted us with a smile and a wave, politely calling us "Ma'am," and even pointed out Amazon deliveries amid the construction materials so we didn't miss them. They were thoughtful about protecting the special features on my home (like the copper gutters and spokes), and other personal items, like statues, lanterns and Halloween decorations in my yard. They brought in a carpenter to replace some of the rotted wood pieces near the roof, and they painted it to match the exterior so it doesn't look like anything has changed at all (which I appreciate, and the historic district requires!). I didn't have to argue with them about fixing the concrete walkway that was inevitably damaged by the weight of the JLG - they just knew they would have to do that. How refreshing, after dozens of home improvement projects at my old house, where I had to argue with the contractors to fix whatever they had damaged! They got the roofing job done in four days - which is just amazing to me. They even helped me with another project - trying to figure out how the squirrels are getting into the house's walls. The guys looked for squirrel holes while they worked, and we might have narrowed it down for the pest contractor to fix. Matt came back after the project was done, to make sure I was satisfied and answer any questions. I really felt like Sheriff Goslin had my best interests in mind throughout the whole project. Now my beautiful, 1890 gothic Victorian is protected under a brand-new roof! Thank you, Sherriff Goslin!
