Horrible service! I reserved a mid-sized. I go to pick it up and they tell me that they no longer have that car unless I wait until noon for a mid-sized car to return. Clearly not an option at 9AM. I ask for another car. The manager tells me that for an upgrade (a full-sized) is an additional charge of $50. Not happening since it's not my fault they didn't have the car I reserved a week ago for early morning pick up. They did not have any smaller cars either. We argued back and forth that Advantage must honor the reservation and provide any available vehicle at no additional costs. No dice with this so-called-manager. AVOID THIS PLACE!!! Kim, the Regional Manager (how does that happen) showed up late for work this past week, and was rushing around to set up the cage in the CLT Parking garage. We landed at 630am, had an appt at 9am, arrived at the Advantage counter inside the rental terminal and ALL other rental companies had employees PRESENT and attending to customers. The Advantage counter was empty, no sign instructing customers to go to parking garage. Three of us customers were irritated and went to the outside office on the 3rd level. Kim should have showed up on time, and instead was telling us we had to wait closer to our appt pick up time. It was a complete mess! Untrained employees under the direction of Kim. Please avoid this place it is just a mess until they can get someone in to train, and show up on time to accept customers and deliver quality customer service. They overcharged me on the return time. I would give them zero stars if I could. I rented a car in Charlotte NC used it here, and traveled to Virginia before returning it 9 days later. While in VA I received a $2k charge on my credit card. I called my credit card company and told them it was fraudulent after finding out the info/company charging me was based in Daytona, and I had no clue what it was. Come to find out in the VERY fine print of the rental agreement if you take the car to any other surrounding state around NC, you are fine but NOT Virginia. It was a $1k charge. I cannot make this up. They literally took $1k from me with NO REFUNDS. I was not told at all when I picked the car up I couldn't take it to VA, but all other surrounding states. When I returned the car, I wasn't given my final bill either. I had no idea until days later when I saw my $2k bill and passed out. I immediately called, and Kim Carter called me back in management. She told me the employee at the front desk had been there for years (who by the way was not very kind and had a very dry personality) and she told me she was almost certain she told me. She wasn't there how did she know? Watch the cameras, that lady NEVER told me not to take it to certain geo locations or hmmmm would you take it for a $1k charge?? No I would definitely have not! She called me from an unknown number, left me zero messages, about the charge when they charged me. I don't answer unknown numbers due to too many scam and telemarketer calls. She didn't leave a voicemail which I have proof of. Now they want their $2k, and there's nothing they can do?? I was in shock. You need a lawyer, dictionary, magnifying glass, and about 3 hours before you BOOK ANYTHING nowadays. It's all becoming such a huge scam. Kim told me already 4 people fell for this just recently? How is this legal? I feel inclined to hire a lawyer for this.. for unnecessary fees that they charge. $1k is a lot of money.. just to drive it across a state line and then to return the car in perfect condition. Got to CLT early in the morning around 4:30, came to Advantage kiosk in the parking garage since it's too early for the counters at the car rental terminal. Tracy Had just got to work at 5 am and she was ready to start her day with a smile and greet her first customer for the day. She made the rental process quick and easy and I was on my way in no time. Did my business and came back to return the car back at the airport at 3 pm and Tracy was still there, again she greeted me and check the car, printed a receipt and I was good to go. Be very careful with this company. I booked a car in February through CarRentals.com to pick up at Charlotte, NC airport on May 18. When I got to the rental car desks I could not find Advantage. Finally I asked at another desk and was told that they had left the airport. Meanwhile I had been receiving confirmation emails and even a text with pick-up instructions after I arrived at the terminal. Fortunately, I was able to book a car on the spot from another company, but for much more money. They began telling the growing line that they were out of cars and needed other people to return cars so they could give us all cars. Great place to rent a vehicle in Charlotte. This is my fourth time renting with Advantage-Rental-Car and I've yet to have any complications with them. The staffs are really friendly and usually more than accommodating when we need to upgrade to a larger vehicle. I recommend making a reservation but if you ever need to rent a car in Charlotte, this is the place to go. From my experience, it's always been cheaper than its competition. P.S. Opt for the unlimited gas promotion they have if you plan to travel more than 200 miles and don't want to worry about filling it up to a full tank before you return. read more

I made a reservation with Advantage weeks ago. When I arrived (early) to pick up the vehicle, there was a line about 15 people deep and only one person working at the counter. After an hour and 15 minutes in line, the employee told me that because I'm a local renter and don't have a flight booked, I cannot pay with my debit card, and I have to have a credit card in my name. None of this was mentioned in the terms and conditions upon booking. The employee blamed Travelocity. She would not let my roommate use her credit card or transfer the reservation into her name. She was unapologetic about the situation, and when I asked to speak to a manager, she told me the manager wasn't there, and I needed to step out of the way because there was a line of people behind me. I called customer service to make sure I wouldn't be charged for not picking up the car, and a hold had been placed on my account. Thank god I called. The customer service rep was extremely nice and reversed the charge. Unfortunately I can't say the same for the woman I dealt with at the kiosk. read more

The representative is rude and racist. She did not want to help me with my situation. I was unable to pick up a car. The third party agent wants to verify the situation by phone. The representative refuses to pick up the phone call due to helping other customers. When there was no customer, I asked her whether she was willing to pick up the phone call. She said 'I'll only if no customer showed up.' I am confused why I'm not treated as equal as other customers. Why I have to be put in her lowest priority. While, she was extremely nice to other white customers. I'm not happy with my experience. I did not remember her name. Should be disadvantage rental car. I made reservations 2 months before I traveled to Charlotte-Douglas airport. I arrived at 10:30 PM and was told they didn't have any cars left, they had all been rented. That was it, no help, no nothin. It didn't matter that I had a reservation. See ya, goodby, no cars. I had to rent one from Alamo and it was $441.00 for Wednesday night to Sunday morning. Supply and demand, last minute, take it or leave it. My original price thru Expedia with Disadvantage was $181.00. I contacted Disadvantage and they were going to pass my complaint on to a supervisor and they would call me right away. Monday 11th there was a storm that caused a lot of cancellations. When I got to the car rentals I jumped inline to anyone I could. Advantage had hiked their prices up from $18 a day rate for economy to $65 a day. In total for Monday evening until Friday 0500 drop off it cost me $551 dollars. They are absolutely disgraceful. When I got to my car, the interior was covered in digs hair and I was given an option, there's no more cars in my class so I can upgrade for more money, or I'll have to wait until it's clean. 40 mins later the car comes back. The rental car and leasing experience was fine. The problem is Advantage's policy on fees charged for highway tolls. I had a toll for $.60 (cents), and was charged an additional $25 "administration fee." When I called to inquire about it, I was told it was in the contract, but nothing was ever explained to me about this charge at the time of rental. I understand the need to cover such administrative costs, but this onerous level is outrageous. The company can at least make a point of informing customers of these hidden charges, so we can choose an alternative method of paying the tolls if we want. Avoid! Advantage is good at coming up with a cheap contract on Orbitz and upping all the charges and fees. First the taxes and fees were $20 more than agreed. Then they said they wanted a $200 deposit. They asked if I wanted a car with a GPS i said OK but then I saw he came in with a portable GPS for an additional; $50. I was like...NO! Then they showed me to a car that smelled like smoke. They had already entered me as having rented this car. I said I want a different one, it smells like smoke. So they gave me another car. It was ok. I drove it for the duration of the trip. When I got home, they had charged me a hefty fee for "changing cars"(!!). I got on the phone with them and they would only give me a partial refund, not what I was due. I had to take up the $165 overcharge with my credit card company, lots of time and a pain in the ***. Like others have mentioned, this company has terrible customer service- I rented my car at the RDU location through a third party, thought I was saving money! And like others mentioned they try to up-sell you on products. They also put an additional $200 hold on my credit card that was supposed to be released upon returning the car. What they FAIL to tell you is that your bank may not release the hold for 3-10 days, depending on your financial institution. I reviewed my credit card statement and it's still showing a pending hold for the $200 PLUS the money I prepaid for the gas. Never again. read more

I was with my son, who was to be the driver and I thought I paid for the booking online through a 3rd party. I got to the front desk and the woman (older Caucasian woman with short hair) informed me that I could not pay for the car, and that my son had to use his credit card, fair enough. But the way she explained it was very abrupt like we were trying to scam the company or something. And then when I tried to get some clarification on what exactly the policy was, she rolled her eyes like I was stupid even though she hadn't explained it very well. After that, she tried to upsell me on the insurance, which I didn't need, but while discussing the insurance she only addressed my son and wouldn't look at me. First off when we went to the rental counter we waited for over 20 minutes with 3 other customers to a rep to even show up. No other rental company had this problem as I watched. Beware of Bait & Switch. I made a reservation on Expedia for a car with unlimited miles. When I got to the rental car counter I was charged an additional $20 per day over and above the rate quoted online because I was a "local renter." This fee should have been disclosed on Expedia; it made no difference to the rental agent that I had a printed confirmation and was forced to pay this fee. A written complaint to the company after the fact made no difference and the cited the same "local renter" fee. read more
