A few years ago they operated on the wrong leg for our dogs who needed a CCL repair and then blamed our Vet who referred us there that they sent over the paperwork with the wrong leg identified which was a complete lie. Our normal vet recommended advanced veterinary care group for our 2.5 year old xoloitzcuintli we were able to make an appointment to have him neutered here instead of in the normal office. As a unique breed I wanted a surgeon and staff that were extremely comfortable performing the surgery on my dog. The entire staff was patient and explained each step of the way. Dr. Razza was amazing with our dog and made sure we were comfortable with drop off and pick up. When she called to let us know he was ready for pick up she explained how well he did and made sure to answer any questions we had. During pick up the doctor again made sure to answer any questions and made sure we were informed of anything before leaving. I cannot recommend this specialty office enough between the doctor and the staff everything was amazing for these nervous dog owners. read more

Dr. McCoy was awesome. She patiently explained every step of the procedure and tests that would be performed on my pup. I was extremely nervous and she offered to keep me updated at each step along they way with how things were going. When the EKG came back with some issues she called me and explained the risk of surgery and recommended a cardiologist for further testing before proceeding with surgery. My Golden Retriever had a Cruciate Ligament tear. Myc choices were a TPLO surgery thru the Michigan State Vet School or a TTA procedure thru Adcanced Vet Care. I opted for the TTA procedure at this hospital for 3 reasons: 1. It was closer to my house. 2. It was $1k cheaper 3. I read that the TTA procedure was almost equivalent to the TPLO surgery and the major difference was that the TPLO trained doctors get to charge more because the are vested in training expenses on how to do the TPLO surgery. Now 4 months later, I am SO SORRY I did. First off we NEVER got a phone call checking on the status of our POOR MISTY after this major surgery. When I did call I was told that any follow up should be done thru my regular vet. Strange. Well, 4 months later I took Misty in to my regular vet for an eye infection and had her knee checked out to see how it was faring. My vet told me that theres a lot of grinding and crackling in her knee and also 'clicking.' He also said there was a thickening in the meniscus which indicated inflammation and probably arthritis developing. The fact that her leg muscles in that knee were atrophied and getting worse showed she wasn't putting any weight on it. My vet said the clicking was probably due to a tear in the meniscus. To be fair it was hard telling if the meniscus (in the knee) was torn before the surgery and NOT addressed during the cruciate ligament surgery or if it developed after the surgery but in either case the meniscus would've been addressed in a TPLO surgery. My doctor doesn't wanna do a 'meniscus release' procedure on my poor Misty and put her thru THAT pain and recovery all over again. As a result she will probably be on anti-inflammatory and pain meds for the rest of her life or as long as her liver and kidneys can handle them. read more

I was recommended here by my primary veterinarian for an abdominal ultrasound and later an exploratory surgery with biopsies and they took very good care of my little man who was a 3.6lb Pomeranian. They were very thorough in going through the procedures with me and when he had some complications they were responsive to my primary veterinarian when she called even though the doctor was not on duty that day. I sincerely appreciate everything they did for my little man while he was needing to go through lots of testing to diagnose Lymphangiestacia. Terrible customer service .... We took our dog in to have a TTA Rapid Cruciate Surgery. After TTA 2 days I called the vet because my mother in-law said the stitches appear to be coming out. I had her take pictures and I called the clinic. I sent them the pictures which they said everything was ok that he had internal stitches. 2day after on Saturday my dog was taken out to go to the bathroom when he swatted and the wound open up so I could see the bone. I took him to my vet and they had er surgery costing additional 660 . I call the clinic and I yet to receive a phone call from them. Would do negative if I could. I was sent here to have a plate and screws done for a small dogs broken leg. The bone was set as straight as possible in a splint at the emergency vet. The vet at advanced said she wouldn't recommend her doing the surgery that I had already put a deposit down and scheduled for (X-rays had been sent from the emergency vet prior) - no real reason was given but they kept her all day and only did a bandage change on her splint. It started unwrapping the same night and I took her back in to my original vet that said the bone was now displaced (not straight and not touching anymore) and would HAVE to be surgically repaired at this point. It ended up costing me $5,700 at a specialist because whoever wrapped her splint at advanced moved the bone and did a poor job. advanced didn't do the surgery I had already put a deposit down for. I was not refunded and I have not received a call back from any of the 4 calls or messages I have left. Communication is/ was terrible. read more

Both Dr Elmer and Dr Larsen will patiently explain to you all the options they have and even what they don't have, for your pet. Years ago, my German Shepherd mix female dog started acting strangely so I took her to my local vet, who then recommended Advanced Vet. Dr Larsen ran a test which I refer as "the core sample" where he took a long sample of her tissue. She had multiple cancers and because they were not, at the time, set up to handle her case, they referred me to MSU's vet school. Last December, I took our two-year-old mixed breed Shih Tzu Pomeranian for surgery for a luxating patella on the right leg; I entrusted my dog to the veterinary center receiving the smiling assurance "do not worry! We will take good care of him"; forty-minutes later, he was dead. I will not go over the medical aspect on these lines, for this topic; I am working on filing an official complaint to the veterinary board. The fact that the dog completed (in a different vet hospital) with no complications the same surgery six months earlier on the left leg is striking enough. The aspect I see relevant for this area is the lack of compassion I found in the doctors when, after the initial shock, two days later, I returned to understand the event. Warning!!!! I had my 1.4 year old female black lab luxating patella surgery on march 15,2022. It has been a out right nightmare. Missy the lab has had here incision explode and sutures and staples redone by a reputable vet in the Jackson Michigan area . Follow up care has been in Grass lake mi where a emergency visit for vomiting for 24 hours showed severe infection not your average one but a superbug found from swab from internal surgery site and grown in lab conditions to see what we were dealing with. Please be aware the antibiotic to treat this is so strong I have to mask and glove up if I touch it my red blood cells could tank out. Missy requires blood tests to insure her red blood cells don't or now we have blood transfusions . Many X-rays later And 5 weeks we r pretty sure the dog will make it not sure if surgery will. Other side of story it has been suggested there is another animal out there that is also same surgery location same situation not doing as well! Contacted advance no response . My cat was only 5 years old. I was told she had bladder stones. The options were, to have them surgically removed, or wait and and give her medicine to break them down. I was told it might take months to break down the stones, if they break down at all. My cat was in pain. I didn't want her in pain anymore. Advanced veterinary Care group did the surgery on her. I picked her up the next day. I was told she probably wouldn't eat or drink much, for about 24-48 hours. That she would probably sleep. I was told to have her in a cage, so she wouldn't jump around for two weeks. She wasn't drinking much or eating. After a couple days, I thought something wasn't right with her. We called them, and they told us to call her vet. We got her into her vet, he told us to take her to the nearest emergency room. My sweet cat was dying. They told me her temperature was down to 94, that there was fluid in her. They tested it, and it was urine all through her. My options were to have a specialist try and help her, and then she would probably need more surgeries. That she might pass away anyway, with it costing 7,000 and up. I didn't want her in anymore pain. She was so sick, and there wasn't any guarantee she would make it through the surgeries. After she passed away, they opened her up to examine the bladder surgery. The wound was open, where her surgery was done. Personally I would never take another animal to these people. I called them, and told them what happened to our Mary. They got the records and said there was no evidence, that it was their fault. I told them if my cat wouldn't have had the surgery, she would be alive. She was playful that morning and purring. If they would have closed the surgical site up correctly. Urine wouldn't have leaked all through her body. I told them I know she can't be brought back. But, please help at least with the bill. They said no, they charged me 1,410.00 for a botched surgery that basically killed my cat. We miss her so much. She was my daughter's therapy pet. She was a member of our family. If I could go back in time, I wouldn't have had these people touch my cat. read more

If there was less than 1 star, then I would leave that. My 5 year old dog had TTA surgery here and it has been a nightmare ever since. Well, really before the surgery even took place. I initially called to schedule a consultation and they said I could bring her in the next day and they would do a consultation and surgery in the same day. I was ecstatic because I did not want my pup to be in pain/suffer any longer than she had to. I brought her in the next morning and the consultation consisted of a 5 minute overview of the surgery before they took her back and then an outline of the aftercare instructions and payment. It honestly felt more like a business transaction then it did dealing with someone that actually cared about my dog. It has been awful since then and will attempt to keep it short in hopes that as many people will read this as possible. Draining from the incision site persisted about 5 days after the surgery. I called to see if I could bring her into Advanced to get her looked at. Their response was, "See if you can get her into her normal vet, but we will try to get her in if not." It is amazing to me that they pawned this off on someone who did not even do the surgery. After following the post-op procedures carefully, she developed an internal infection. I have since had to take my dog back to her normal vet 4 times to deal with the mess Advanced made. This includes poor suturing of the incision site and sustained internal and external infections. The lack of care, respect and precision with this group is almost impressive. I would advise you to go anywhere else but here. Even if it costs more, I would pay upfront instead of paying for continual vet visits and the emotional stress of dealing with it all. read more

Unfortunate when the owner cannot tell the truth. The reason we asked to see the procedure was because we were told by the tech 1) that the ultrasound would take one hour and 2) there would be possible bruising of the pet's abdomen. I wasn't the only person who heard it. In questioning other vets, we were told that the procedure was not that long and there should be no bruising. That is a red flag-that's why we asked to observe. The owner also fails to report that someone from his staff subsequently called my vet, asking for copies of the ultrasounds. WHY? I am not his customer, so don't try to get my records. Unbelievable. Do not take your dog here, my husband calls them a "chop shop". Took our dog here in June 2020, and his staples opened up and became infected. The doctor told us to take him to a dentist as he is not responsible for any post surgical issues!!! Discharge paperwork states that also. The lack of compassion and loyalty to their clients is horrible. They do the devils work. I don't understand how they can live with themselves or sleep at night. He needed an extensive surgery on his broken leg, and at this establishment, it was a full $1600 cheaper than in Canada where we're from. We came to the Advanced Veterinary Care Group from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan to get a second opinion on a surgery for our 14-month-old foster lab, named Charlie. We were told that Charlie was to have no food after midnight in case he needed surgery. This was important since we travelled so far. Orthopedic surgeon Dr. Elmer examined him and scheduled surgery that same day for a ruptured cranial cruciate ligament. We were fully informed of our options and were given a quick overview of the surgery. Shannon was exceptional in organizing the details and making Charlie and us feel very comfortable. When we picked Charlie up the next morning, Shannon thoroughly guided us through the post op rehabilitation for Charlie and cautioned us on the importance of keeping him quiet for the first few weeks. She gave us an exhaustive manual to follow when we took Charlie home. I called her immediately when we arrived home and she was wonderful about answering our questions. This is by far one of the most amazing facilities and staff. Every question and concern has always been answered. They have done everything to get my dog out of depression and pain. I have taken my dog to Advanced Veterinary Care Group twice in the past two years. The first time was to have her Cruciate Ligament repaired and the second was to have a large tumor removed from her eyelid. Several things I like about AVCG. First, the staff is extremely personable and caring. They answered all of our questions and I was very impressed when the veterinarian came to take Matilda for her surgery and was able to gain her trust enough to take her without muzzling her (both vets at this clinic were able to do this with her). Matilda can be aggressive when she is afraid and generally requires a muzzle. Second, the price at this clinic is very reasonable compared to local competitors. The cost of her knee surgery was a fraction of the other quote I received. Third, the outcome on her knee has been magnificent. She has been going for 2 years on it now and appears to be completely pain free :) She just had her eye surgery, but I am confident she will have great outcomes with that one too. read more
