We relocated care for our 2 dogs to Lyon Veterinariany Clinic (not to be confused with South lyon animal clinic up the road). I was tired of how expensive basic vaccines and care was, so I called to get estimates all around. They are the most reasonable. The only con is that they don't do fast appointments for emergencies. Our beagle was bit on the nose and they couldn't get him in same day for stitches. It was not after hours and they still referred us to the anima hospital. My old vet out of state always had a cushion in case any emergency issues came in. I'm not sure if they have the staff to be able to make that happen here, however. Everything else has been great. They have convenient online system for ordering flea/tick. They have great attentiveness and empathy for our animals. They hooked us up with info for an in home service when we had to help one of our dogs transition to the next life. They took great care of our dogs dental care and routine services. They offer Saturday appointments. All of our other needs are met. read more

Disappointed with this clinic. My pet has a documented chronic autoimmune condition and had already been seen recently, including a yearly exam, but they still refused to refill medication without another paid visit only weeks later. Hard not to feel like the priority was billing instead of continuity of care. If this is how established patients are treated, you should probably find another vet. read more

In brief, my dog's pain medication was on back order with their mail order pharmacy and the only alternative I was offered was direct from the clinic, with no heads up that it was going to increase the cost by $50 a month. I had to solve this on my own, and because the vet said they "don't have the time or staff" to wait on hold to call in prescriptions, I had the new mail order pharmacy call them for authorization. They denied it, saying I would have to pick up the prescription and mail it in. At that point I called and requested my records and politely explained that I was disappointed that they didn't have the time to help me and that my dog was going to be without pain meds for over a week. I also posted a Google review explaining this. The vet's response was to say I caused her staff distress by calling to complain and that I hung up on her when she tried to call me (this never happened- I one call from the clinic after I asked for my records, and answered to dead air, and then the call dropped), so I should go elsewhere for care. That's no problem for me, because my new clinic already helped me find and price out a new prescription (yes that did take some of their time but they were very kind to do so) and my dog is back on his meds at a price I can afford, the same day I talked with them. In my opinion this is a pretty basic expectation for a clinic, and that the vet doesn't make you out to be the problem when you leave a review. I recommend steering clear of this place. read more

Tried to schedule a new patient exam for my dog and was told repeatedly and quite rudely...while being interrupted... " to answer your question..." but I had quite a few since they are unable to see my dog for a few weeks and I needed to obtain her flea and tick meds. I was trying to ascertain whether I could schedule the appointment for the next available, in a few weeks, but still get a months worth of medication until she could be seen. Needless to say, I will spend my annual cost of flea and heart guard preventative elsewhere while finding a new vet. read more

The worst vet office we've ever experienced! The first visit the vet techs could not have been more rude .... no customer service type attitude OR love for animals.... we walked into the room and the vet tech was writing down notes and didn't even look up at us as we walked in (after being told they were ready for us). I said "um Hello" and she rumbled and finally looked up and barely said hello and definitely didn't smile. As our dogs were getting shots, no petting or calming the dogs.. just sternly held them while the doc gave the shots. Our dogs are on medication and when we call for a refill, they are so robotic when they tell you - "i need the name of the drug and the amount" and I'm thinking - when I tell you my name, don't you have that on file?" When I asked them to repeat the second part of the question, they rudely repeat the question like I'm an idiot. The last straw was just now getting off the phone with Nicole (terrible attitude and I think she's one of the two techs on our first visit who wouldn't even smile or calm our dogs for their shots). When I got frustrated with her just now and told her that her attitude was not customer service-like (after she rudely told me she could not provide me with a copy of our records, rather they need a fax number and name of doc to send to) she said very sternly "WHEN YOU PROVIDE ME A NAME AND FAX NUMBER WE WILL SEND YOUR RECORDS" and then SHE HUNG UP ON ME!!!! No bye, or I'm sorry Mrs. so and so this is our policy... she just HUNG UP ON ME!!! This is the last type of place I will take my pets which are like our children. I went here b/c someone tole me their prices were low... nope - they were the exact same as our former vet - $700 for a first visit but we didn't even get all of the shots... had to go back and it was another $120!!! Another strange thing... the rooms do not have a table that can be lowered so your dog can step on it to then rise up to look at dog. We have a 90lb lab and 70lb mix and the doc (rather clumsily/awkwardly) picked up our dogs to put them on a desk. So strange... i was like almost running up to help b/c i was afraid she would drop our dog! But all in all the main reason is b/c the techs do not show any compassion or even like for the animals... it's almost like they're working on an assembly line - just crazy! Doctor Yates seemed nice enough, at least you could tell she loved animals but the TECHS ARE ATROCIOUS! read more

Do not recommend. Avoid this clinic if you care for your pet. They botched up a routine neutering procedure that required us to rush our puppy to an emergency clinic (within hours after neutering) and ended up costing us more than $1500. read more

Small animal's I could not get the appointment with the same vet each time I went even if I would schedule when they wanted me. I don't like to see a different vet every time go somewhere I want to get to know the person that is taking care of my animal. They get to know me and the animal and i can develop a trust for the doctor. I've never heard of a rule like this. I will go somewhere else from now on. read more

Yes, they are expensive but no more so than most of the other vets in the area. Having said that, they were the only vet in town who would agree to see my dog in an emergency (same day!) after she was bit by another dog at an in-home dog care while I was on vacation in Florida. I called every vet in South Lyon including the one I used to go to who's vet was on vacation and the on-call vet decided not to come in that day. They had my dog in surgery the next morning and did a wonderful job closing her wound! They worked well over the phone with me from Florida and eased all of my concerns. I have been going to them ever since! They are very loving and caring toward both my dogs and always professional and courteous with me. They take extra time to work with my fearful dog to ease her anxiety (and mine!). I would highly recommend them! read more

I will not go back to this place. I took my dog in here to see why he was itching. It cost me 39.00 just for them to tell me that the collar was too tight. They said that the price also included an exam, well that makes common sense that they would have to examine the dog to see why he was itching. I used to buy my dog food from this office for my other dog who is on a Rx pet food but I also will not do that again. I used to like this place until today. I have no idea how someone can look a person in the eye and charge what they do. Everyone is entitled to an opinion but don't you think that $39.00 is a high price just to tell you that the dog's collar was on too tight? I definitely HIGHLY recommend Salem Veterinary. This is the most compassionate clinic I have visited. The staff treats you professionally and takes the time to explain what the options are, and what is needed. Dr. Ferguson clearly loves animals. She takes the time to get to know her patients - both two and four footed. Her advice has always been spot on. When my very first dog was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, the staff referred me to a specialist, but they continued to follow up to see how we were doing. When our poor pup finally passed, I got a wonderfully kind note from the staff. These are the most dedicated and caring people. THE BEST. read more

My elderly cat suddenly developed blindness. When I called the clinic the receptionist was very understanding and immediately gave me an appointment to come in asap. Smokey was evaluated by Dr. Ferguson and she determined it was very high blood pressure which caused retinal detachment. Dr. Ferguson explained every thing to me and indicated the vision may return if the retinas would lay back down. I started the medication and Smokey was evaluated in 3 days. Her BP was better, but required further reduction. Her retina placement was improved but not fully corrected. As a result, her medication was increased to twice daily. They gave me another appointment, working in my available schedule - which can be difficult. Dr. Ferguson and staff were very kind and gentle with me and my frightened cat. Dr. Ferguson explained to me that Smokey was not in pain and she should do ok even if she remained blind or partially blind as long as I do not move her litter box etc. I was sure I was going to have to euthanize her but after Dr. Ferguson's kind and gentle treatment of both me and Smokey and her education of me regarding her problem, Smokey is home and happy! Regarding the charges, the fee for the visit with examination and medication was not high and the recheck visit was only $25.00--no office visit fee on top of that. I was charged for re-evaluation only. read more

These guys are very cold, do not seem to have any real "love" for animals. They are very "business" like, with a blatant "time is money" attitude. After 3 visits here, I switched to another vet and discovered a huge difference in the attitudes of staff and docs. My dog is much happier, he is treated 110% better. We used a different clinic years ago, and switched to here. We have been very pleased with the entire staff. Compared to 'the other clinic' we have been very pleased with the prices we have been charged (they do have to pay for the building, taxes, utilities, salaries, etc.). Our dog actually walks through the door before we do when we take her there - she usually walks out after us when we leave - she actually seems to enjoy going there and likes the staff. read more

We moved to Lyon vet clinic about 10 years ago when it was time to put my dog to sleep. My old vet made me feel like I was a bad personal for not spending my last dollar to keep my old dog alive. I have had four dogs and a hamster treated at Lyon vet clinic. They not only care about our pets, they care about us. They are with you at good times and bad and through such difficult end of life decisions. They have been with us through many treatments including one dog with cancer. I was very unhappy with the care my dog received here. She was clearly having trouble standing and walking, and the veterinarian simply stood over her and said it was old age. She never listened to heart, and did nothing to check her in any way. After her three-minute appraisal, I was given a $40 bill. I will be looking elsewhere for veterinary services. read more
