The doctors are very good but the staff is awful: The staff are all people who barely speak English.The nurses came out to call patients and no one understood them, as they could not pronounce any of the patients' names. Seriously the woman couldn't pronounce "Thomas." The nurses assistants all need serious training in English pronunciation and basic manners. It's disappointing. read more

This review is for post surgery. After my colonoscopy, I was told to get dressed right away. The doctor never came to check on me but or to tell me what his findings were. The 'head' nurse claimed he spoke to me which was a lie. When I spoke to her the next day, she was so defensive regarding my experience. After I was dressed and still feeling the effects from the anesthesia , a nurse came to walk me out of the building. I was so shocked! Normally after a procedure, for insurance and safety purposes a patient is wheel chaired out of the building in case the patient falls/collapses. Not at this place. The sooner we're walked out, the sooner they have a bed for the next victim. read more

This review is for the Surgery Center itself, NOT the people who performed the actual medical procedure. What an experience. We went to the surgery center and were greeted by a very pleasant gentleman in the parking lot who assisted us with parking. Once inside the office we spoke to two polite and efficient ladies at the check-in area who gave us numerous legal forms to read and sign. We were told that if we had any questions, just let them know. We did have a question regarding the blanket authorization of any other unrelated operation that the Surgery Center might deem appropriate. When I asked what this meant, the ladies at the reception area did not know. They directed me to another lady who was, I believe, the head nurse. She did not seem pleased at all that I questioned what was on their legal forms. I was told by her in an increasingly loud and hostile tone that I was not a lawyer, that all the forms needed to be signed and if we did not sign them that the procedure would not be performed and that, ".....we were free to leave.....". This unprofessional and hostile behavior is completely unacceptable, especially in a medical setting. We still did not find out what all that legalese meant, but in order to proceed, we relented and signed the forms. I would quote you the exact wording, but we were not provided copies of anything we were required to sign. Just a word of warning if you come here. DON'T ASK ANY QUESTIONS!!! read more

not a recommended facility for outpatient surgeries. The doctors there seem to have little regard for patient safety and care. When my mom visited, the chaotic environment was alarming and needs to be shared to alert others. While the staff are diligent and strive to prioritize patient safety during exams and procedures, the management appears more focused on maximizing patient flow, equating it to cash flow. This is only based upon my experience as a caregiver to my mother who had a procedure here today. We arrived an hour early (our fault) and they were kind to accommodate us with early check in in this pandemic era. The check in outside was quick and professional. The man who worked in the parking lot was helpful and professional as well. The receptionist and communication is why this center is receiving a poor review. At the onset we were told the procedure would take about 2.5 hours and was scheduled to start at 9:30. I call at 12 and become concerned when I hear a looping recording about calling 911, contacting billing, etc. with no option to leave a message or indication that staff was on lunch, or anything. So I decide to go there by 1:00; it's close, and I'm concerned that no one is answering the phone. The women who answers let's me know the doctor is running behind and that they are starting the procedure now and that some one would call me, but that she should be ready in around 30 minutes. I do lose my cool a bit and tell here it's been 4.5 hours since I dropped her off and she reminds me that I was early. Thanks. I let her know about my experience with the phone and she says she has been there all day. Ummm, what does that have to do with my issue? Super unprofessional and concerning response since this is a surgery center. We both ended that phone call frustrated. So I leave and run some errands. I get a call from another person at 1:13, telling me my mom is in recovery and will be ready in 10 minutes and asks how long it will take me to get there, that all tracks for recovery planning. OK- so I turn around and come back and call. The first person I spoke with answered and I told her who I was here to pick up- she said "I don't understand what you are asking." OK- I repeat and she tells me to wait outside. And here I am for another 30 minutes. read more

What a wonderful experience with a cataract removal procedure! I was a bit apprehensive and had left my cataract go during the Covid lockdowns to the point I was told it is very advanced and no promises could be made in terms of recovering good vision from the Right eye. Dr. Ho Sun Choi performed a miracle. Great vision, no complications and he was very very detailed in his explanations, directions and very happy with the results. From the moment I walked in the staff made me feel very comfortable, especially with the Covid protection systems they had in place. (Required Negative test 1 day before) Masks, distancing etc. The pre-op nurse Wendy was so comforting and efficient. The post-op Thao must of trained her...very professional. Other staff members I want to recognize and tell others about is Thao and Dr. Nguyen Tran my Anesthesiologist. Can't wait to get my other eye done! read more

This facility is more interested in pulling in the dollars than caring for the patients. I went in for a colonoscopy and this was my experience. Mind you, I had the same procedure done 2 years ago and it was completley the opposite, mainly because of COVID, they HAD to care for the patient. No 1. the place was packed with triple the amount of patients from the last time I had this procedure done 2 years ago. No 2. because there were SO many patients, I could hear each and every persons information, age, name, dob, physical history, etc. It was interesting listening to the man across the way describe how, because at one time he was a drug addict, he had Hepatitis, "Oh don't worry, I don't have it anymore", his words. This means they also heard me tell my info, what about HEPA? Blatant failing of policy. No 3. the 4' 11" tall nurse who struggled to put the IV into my veins, failed terrible. After 2 failed attempts, leaving horrible pain and bruising on my right hand, she then tried my left. Struggling to reach, she got the needle MOSTLY in the vein. If the needle moved at all, then the IV solution would not go through and stop. Her solution was to wrap the IV tube around my little finger, and tape it in place. No 4. the anesthesiologist, was/is a nice person, but has Parkinson's disease and his hand shook terribly. As sad as this is, it affected what happened when he administered the anesthesia during my colonoscopy. The IV was not in correctly. His hands were shaking allot, moving the IV needle from side to side, causing it to go in and out of the vein, thereby causing severe pain throughout my hand. I have had enough surgeries and been put under anesthesia enough times that I know when something is not right. He should have checked that IV better, he would have seen it was not properly inserted. This is like a cattle shoot, pushing the animals through, treating them, then pushing them out asap. If you have the misfortune of having to have anything done here, check to make sure you're secluded enough that others are NOT listening into your personal info. If a nurse cannot get an IV in without causing extensive pain, ask for someone else more capable. read more

Don't go to this surgery center. Not because of the doctor but the nurses here. The director and head nurse Tonia Le who is in charge of this center is very rude, unfriendly, hostile, unprofessional, and has poor skills. I've had a colonoscopy here before with no problems. So this time I made an appointment with my doctor to do a gastroscopy here. Two nurses tried to give me an intravenous drip, but they were unsuccessful. Tonia Le came with a dark face and bad attitude. I saw that she was completely unsure, so I asked her if she had the confidence to do it, but she ignored me completely and started to try anyway. She kept poking at the back of my hand here and there for a long time with no success, causing me severe pain. I asked her if she could get the nurse who did the IV for me from the past colonoscopy procedure to do it because she succeeded the first time. She said with a bad attitude, "That nurse is my student. I taught her. I am the best here. If I can't do it well, I won't let others do it." I asked to speak to the person in charge, and she said she was the supervisor and director here, but she also said she didn't know if the nurse who helped me last time was here today. "I won't change nurses for you again, because I am the best. I have 25 years of experience. You can either let me try again or leave. " I asked to talk to my doctor, and she said that the doctor was busy and had no time to talk to me, even though it's my scheduled time with the doctor now. It took me more than a month to make this appointment for a gastroscopy. In the end, I had to leave without doing the procedure because of their unprofessionalism. After I decided to leave, Tonia Le actually said she would ask security to escort me out! After returning home, my arm and hand were swollen and bruised for more than a week. I got nothing but good news to report about these guys. They did a good job of taking care of my mother for a colonoscopy and endoscopy. The front desk check in lady is very professional in making sure my mother is ready to check in. For patients who are waiting for their turn there is a nice area complete with a TV. I am really pleased with how well they performed each surgical procedure. I got zero complaints from my mum about it hurting. This is a huge win. Next up is the fact that ASC has some of the best nurses I could probably meet. The nurse who helped my mum with her colonoscopy was a real sweety pie. Who could resist such a happy face? The nurse who was helping with the endoscopy was a guy and he was very professional and explained everything in 1000% detail. Now that's what I call service. A few weeks later, oh this is my favorite part. The follow up dude speaks my mum's language. Yay her. He did a good job of making sure my mum felt better after the endoscopy. They seemed to step up their game in the past 4 years so I as a family member have 0 worries too. read more

The doctor was very kind and so was the nurse who assisted my dad. However, one of the nurses was so gruff with poor bedside manners. As my dad was being prepped for surgery, the nurse was being so exasperated with my 84 year old dad who was getting overwhelmed and unable to answer her questions. She was speaking so gruffly to him and to me as well who was trying to answer for my dad whose English is his second language. At one point she snatched the medication list from my hand without a word. She kept on telling my dad to open his eyes without so much as a "please" at least in the beginning, and in an impatient tone. She was even drumming her fingers on the bed rail out of frustration. As a comparison, we had to go to another clinic post-op. The staff there were so professional, gentle and kind to my dad. All it takes is a simple "please" and "thank you." My dad is old and asks the same questions over and over again, and difficult to understand. I understand that a procedure has to be completed in a timely manner. I am a clinician myself and takes pride in showing kindness to my patients no matter how difficult the person could be. Your patient is someone else's father and loved one. It is difficult to see such rude behavior. You thanked me in the end for my assistance but that does not negate how unprofessional you were. By the way, we were in the lobby and I heard her using the same impatient tone while doing assessment with another immigrant patient. My gratitude, though, to the kind doctor, nurses and staff who took care of my dad during his surgery. read more

This place has very comfy sofas to sit on while u wait to be admitted ! VERY COMFY AND HUGEEEE. the prepping area (i suppose this is what you can call it) has tons of hospitals beds for people who are prepped for surgery or have been done with their outpatient procedures. thanks to the male nurse that told me i had double jointed elbows - well confirmed it, i just thought i was very odd and had abnormal elbow flexing capabilities. :] the surgery room itself was pretty big. i was just under local anesthesia (but kept thinking i was going to be under general.. big mistake on my part), so i had the pleasure of staring at the ceiling while talking to my doctor and feeling pricks against my skin .. as the doctor proceeded. ouch. nice nurses with nice bedside manners, clean, happy, bright facilities. read more

My plastic surgeon I guess somewhat recently switched to this surgery center. I say "guess" cause my last operation was 3 years ago at a different place... I must say though, I'm glad he did! Advance Surgery Center is very modern, clean, up to date and nice! The nurses are all very professional and friendly. Wendy prepped me and she was super sweet! Dr. Chang was my anesthesiologist, young and very handsome. The decor is something I would do to my own place, the pond outside is a nice touch to the presentation. The gals up front are pretty and welcoming. They also call to remind your appt. a day before which at other centers they don't. Overall, I hope I don't need another tweak anytime soon, but if I do, I hope my PS continues using this surgery center! read more

This place was good to me.. I had a procedure done as part of a pre op for a surgery I came early in the morning I paid part of the deductible and knew i might have a balance after , i made sure they allowed payments if necessary. The office is nice ,small but enough ..i was taken to the back and my procedure was fast once in the operating room.. I later got a bill and asked if i could pay in 3 installments and they said of course.. i appreciate it since i was paying thousands already out of pocket for this surgery.. i have since then paid everything off and the staff here was great.. thanks guys! read more

Where to start....how about parking. Three spots for a busy Center. Ridiculous. So you have to drive several blocks to a church parking lot. Then on the walk back, the sidewalks are crappy and there is no crosswalk to get back to the Center. Every parking spot on the street is taken and cars drive crazy fast. So trying to cross the street is literally putting your life in danger. Someone will get hit by a car. The employees are barely civil and could apparently care less about you. When you leave the Center, you go up this concrete walkway which is dark, narrow and had two big dirty bags on one side and other stuff laying around on the other side. It felt uncomfortable and dirty. I love my doctor but I have no idea why he would have moved his practice to this spot. It is not good and I would not recommend it for anyone. Wish I could give negative stars. read more

The faciility was clean and modern but the staff needs improvement. The staff does not speak English well. Someone called me before the surgey and it was almost impossible for me to understand her. While I was there the staff spoke tagalog amongst themselves and only had short comments to say to me. When they called me for a follow-up after the surgery I missed their call and I called them back. I told them my wound looks infected and the lady then said "Why are you calling me about this? Call your doctor, he did your surgery not us so we can't help you. I'll note your chart but that's all I can do". The pre-op room was also very cold. Bascom Surgery Center was much more professional and comfortable. I felt like I was in an HMO surgery processing center during this event. read more

this place kept calling my phone about another patient. left private information on my voicemail even though my voicemail message states my name and NOT the patient's name. i finally answered the phone because i was getting fed up with my phone ringing after 2 days. after i told the girl i am not the patient she bluntly hung up. no thanks, no bye, no sorry. whoever interviewed/hired her, i do not want operating on me or making medical decisions for me. this place is infested with non english speaking/non professional staff members. there are many good doctors in the bay area, choose wisely. read more
