When I first began googling radon remediation companies in my area, the SWAT company appeared to be the most logical choice (the search seemed to indicate that they were local). We called them and they promptly responded and sent technicians to our home within a few days. But, boy, what a frustration and disappointment that proved to be! After nearly three years of dealing with SWAT to try and convince them that their system wasn't doing the job, the team at Advanced Radon finally came to our rescue! And the kicker is that SWAT charged us nearly $2000 for a system that was flawed from the start; Advanced Radon's experienced team helped us trouble shoot our problem and find a solution that didn't cost us any more money! They spent a lot of time in communication with us, visited our home to be sure we were squared away, and never charged us a penny. These are some quality folks who know that they're doing and genuinely have their client's best interest in mind. If you want a more detailed account: Four of our kids live in our basement and our radon numbers were around 14. The SWAT company responded quickly by sending a technician who openly told us this was his first job on his own. He didn't dig a sufficient pit in our foundation to create enough air movement. When we re-tested the basement, the numbers were still over 4. They eventually (weeks later) sent another technician out who assessed the situation and told us the pit should be bigger. He dug it out and went on his way. The numbers were still too high... back to 9 or 11, I believe. After waiting several months for SWAT to have a technician in the area again, they came back again and sealed the pipe in the floor with silicone, assuming the lack of a seal was the problem, hereby pulling air from under our foundation but then releasing it into our basement. We waited probably another year and tested the system again... ridiculously high this time: 45+. This was just unacceptable. It took months again for SWAT to return my calls and stop giving me the run-around and send someone out. They decided to put another hole in our floor and try to get a better result that way. They also charged me $200 more for this, even though they advertised that they guaranteed results. We paid it, realizing it was getting ridiculous, how many times they were having to drive out to us. Even after the second pipe was installed, the system wasn't working. If our windows were all open most of the day, our numbers dropped to about 8. Compared to 45, that was good. But it was still double the recommendation. Something had to be done to actually fix this- and it was clear to us that SWAT was just incapable of helping us. Finally we began to call around to other Radon companies outside of our area to hopefully get some wisdom and guidance from them. After talking with the folks at Advanced Radon, we knew we had a great resource. They exchanged probably 20 or 30 different emails with me, and spent multiple hours on the phone with me, helping me through trouble shooting the problem. They understood the unique properties they were dealing with and identified what was going wrong with my system (a very unusual situation with the location of the radon source) just from a diagram of the basement and two different sets of test results. I was getting ready to sell my house, and because of the age of my home and experience my neighbors had had with radon mitigation, I decided to test my my house for radon. I had no idea how to get the test, so I googled radon companies. Advanced Radon sounded like someone who knew what they were doing so I requested a test. They sent one out right away. After recieving the results, I realized if I wanted to sell my house, I would have to get the work completed. The owner of the company came out shortly thereafter, to give me a quote. I just purchased a new home and in my inspection I paid for additional Radon testing. The test came back above recommended levels and so I got estimates to fix. Advanced Radon beat everyones bid and were extremely helpful with information. The person on the phone walked me through all the things I needed to do to fix the home (instal moisture barrier, floor insulation, open crawl space vents) that will adjust the radon level. He suggested I retest after fixing a few things and then call him back in a few months. To me, this it top notch customer service. We had just moved in, and had open boxes all over the basement, and we were supposed to get a 48 hour notice from the landlord of service personnel entering our home, but they just showed up and we said OK...shame on us. We were still inventorying our stuff a couple days later and discovered a large sum (our cash savings to purchase a car which we desperately needed) was missing.
