Why are they still in business? Well Waste Management completely bought them out after the State of Michigan and Dept. of Justice filed a lawsuit (U.S. AND PLAINTIFF STATES V. WASTE MANAGEMENT, INC. AND ADVANCED DISPOSAL SERVICES, INC.) Oct. 23, 2020. I think behind the scenes, they're maybe all the same company. Anyone else get that impression? I mean the large ones like them, WM, GFL, the one embezelling from the State a few years back. We paid for 2 Recycle (picked up biweekly) and 2 Trash bins (picked up weekly). It took months to receive those bins. After, we got to spend many hours on the phone with their CS because they never showed up. The most effective response was actually using social media. After 4 weeks in a row of them not showing up, trash not being removed, I messaged them they had not fulfilled their contract. I kid you not, within 1 hour suddenly there was an AD truck out front, and a large man on our lawn. We saw him with our security cams. SO went out to see what was up. Guy started yelling, demanded all 4 cans back. 2 were out front, he took those, the Recycles were in the back, he drove away leaving those. Just unbelievable. Now our neighbors still have these fools. After they lost the nearby landfill, GFL now owns, and they have become part of WM, they still collect money from folks near us. But they don't pick up their trash either. It's gotten to where every other week these people OVERfill the bins, it blows all over the road, our property, driveway, grass, yard, plants, etc. I have to go outside and clean this up. I'm Disabled. I don't clean up neighbors' trash in 90+ degree temps. We've involved our Township, it's where this uncared for Landfill is, prior owned by AD. They have had to intervene multiple times, over and over, to get these idiots to come pick up the trash they are being paid to pick up. We now have vermin and rats nearby, courtesy of open trash and it blowing around. I've had to complain to Washtenaw County too. Seems AD is a problem everywhere that they exist. I'm not quite sure why the State, Justice Dept., any licensing allows them to stay in business anywhere, even now hiding under the name of Waste Management. read more

Ever since Waste management purchased them, Multiple missed pick ups and poor customer customer service. I have been a loyal customer for 8 years and pay my bill yearly. Recently they have missed 3 pick ups. I call and can never get a hold of someone to speak to. I had to email customer support twice in one week in order to get a reply. In the reply they stated the following: "Good afternoon, Thank you for contacting Advanced Disposal. I apologize for the inconvenience. After reviewing your account, I'm showing you have services on Thursday Last week I do show where you called in for a missed pickup. The driver came back out on Monday 10/07 to recover your trash and stated the container was not out. A few years ago when we first signed up with them they were great. This past year we had trouble with the recycle truck just driving past our house...not even slowing down. It wasn't bad when they picked up recycle weekly, but when they changed to bi-weekly and they just drove by without stopping, it meant we were now getting it picked up once a month. We got tired of this happening so change to two garbage containers and got rid of the recycle. We are suppose to have our garbage picked up on Thursday's so trash goes out on Wednesday night, but now they may or may not show up and frequently they pick up on Friday's. Worst Disposal Company ever. If you have another option to pick do it. Don't waste your time with this company ever. So they never empty the bins if you put a piece of cardboard next to your recycling bin, they are lazy and won't get out of their trucks to pick it up. Customer services is the worst, you wait on hold for no less than 45 minutes each time you call and the best part of Advanced Disposal is when you cancel they charge you a $25 fee to pick up their bins. Often miss half the homes in our sub, which, when you are doing every other week pick up, sucks. Leaves you with a full bin and they NEVER pick up any boxes or extra set next to the bin, no matter how neatly you fold/set it. Pretty crappy. Wish our HOA would switch to a better company. read more

If I could give Advanced Disposal's service in Detroit 0 stars, I would. Last week they completely skipped my house as well as my neighbors. Due to the Christmas holiday, there is a lot of trash. I've spoken to 4 people and still have zero resolution to this issue. On Saturday I spoke to Andre, on Monday I spoke to Mario on Wednesday I spoke to Chris. Each CSR promised me that the trash was scheduled for pick up that day and would be picked up by 6pm that day. Chris also told me that an operations manager would call me to follow up with the issue. The trash was never picked up and the operations manager never called. My trash is still on the curb and now I have New Years trash that I can't put out because the bin is full! Today I called again and spoke to Shondrea. She told me that she couldn't escalate the matter and that there wad nobody else I could contact. She told me the trash would most likely not be picked up today and that I would have go wait until the NEXT garbage pick up! She also said that an operations manager MAY call me, but couldn't promise anything. This is ridiculous. If I did my job only when I felt like it and didn't do it correctly I would not have a job. While I understand that the holidays are a busy time, it is a busy time for EVERYBODY and at the end of the day I'm not being provided the service that I'm paying for. Advanced Disposal needs to get it together and do their job(s). If you're not going to pick up my garbage regularly then you need to deliver another trash can to my house free of charge so that I can store my rubbish for however long it takes you to do your job. I'm a service connected disabled veteran on a fixed income. Advanced disposal I found out we'e charging me $30 more than my neighbors. So of course I called to cancel and they were supposed to pick up my bin on 2/28. Instead they took the bin immediately the following day. Then I get the bill, they charged me for 2 weeks of service they did not provide. When I called they completely disregarded even though my cctv documented this. They are currently tacking on $10.95 late charges and could care less. Avoid this company at all costs! read more

Well once again Advanced Disposal DISAPPOINTS! Last Friday Advanced Disposal did not pick up/dump our dumpster, Yes, this was the 3rd time in 5 weeks. They stated NO CREDIT will be issued due to poor weather conditions on that day, nor did they pick up on Monday OR Tuesday as promised. So I asked if there are poor weather conditions for me to make it to the post office to mail out a bill would they waive a late charge???? NOOOOO was their answer, it's not the same. You can pay the bill online?!? Back when we had HORNBECK RECYCLING AND TRASH they were awesome!! Always a pick up, always on time, ALWAYS polite if I ever had to call. This big business buying up small reputable companies has to stop! We now have limited options for trash and recycling pick up, very poor service, and higher prices. THE WORST. We were with Hornback before Advanced bought them out, and since the switch, have had multiple issues with them. First week, they threw away my personal trash can. I wish I would have known then. Irritants- They WILL skip you, and wont be able to tell you why they didn't pick up your trash/recycling. They also will not come back until your next scheduled pickup. At your next scheduled pickup, they WILL NOT pick up excess garbage from previously mentioned, unless of course, you pay for an additional can. They also, don't follow any kind of schedule as far as I can tell. Best to put your trash out the night before, but they'll still claim they didn't pick it up because you didn't put it out in time. This last issue was a doozy. Who ever "operations" is, called me a liar twice, changed their story 2 different times. It is obvious that they do not care about their customers at all. I left 2 messages for the manager, who I believe was Chris, and still have yet to hear from anyone. Finally dropped them, and found GFL is actually cheaper, and worlds friendlier. 3 year contract is thankfully about to end. We started out paying around $50 and were told our price was locked in and wouldn't change. Now here we are at around $72 a month with nothing on our end changing. Also, somehow, even though all our payments (through the bank, and on their account transaction page) show that we've paid all our bills and have never been late (paid early, if anything)... they're trying to charge us overages and late fees now that our contract is almost up? We've tried to contact them through phone and email. They are really, really poor with customer service. Phone gets nowhere and email is a quick response, then nothing. Just ignored with no legitimate reasons as to why they're doing what they're doing. On top of that, we pay for biweekly pickup. Our last pick up SUPPOSED to be on January 1st. TL;DR Terrible customer service, did not pickup multiple times, extra charges applied after cancellation. The first two weeks of trash and recycling pickup resulted in trash pickup only. It took more than ten phone calls to have a representative come out to inspect our recycling bin. the inspection was requested by us after having been told that our recycling was not picked up because it had trash mixed in. There was no trash mixed in at any point, and we knew this was a made up excuse because we watched the recycling truck drive past our home multiple times without stopping, let alone verifying the contents of the bin. when a representative came, he reviewed the contents and confirmed that it was standard recycling material. He also explained that it would be abnormal for a pickup driver to open the bins, as the truck was equipped with an automatic pickup arm that enabled the driver to remain in the vehicle the whole time. Service continued sporadically, and multiple calls were made. Customer Service was terrible. On numerous occasions they would interrupt and use sarcastic tones, hang up, or leave myself or my partner on hold for half an hour. I have never experienced such rude customer service behavior, it was so childish and lacking any actual service that it seemed purposely oriented to provoke the caller, who wanted a legitimate problem solved. With such poor customer service experiences (more than 20) and failed pickup services (more than 6 weeks), we cancelled service. If I could give zero stars, I would. Had multiple issues when I started with this company. Charged for dates they did not provide service. When I called for a credit, they said they could not give me one. They randomly stopped doing weekly recycling a few months ago which is a huge problem for our household. Called early this week to inquire about yard waste removal. Spoke with a girl who said it was $17.50 a month, they could accommodate up to 15 yard bags, and that I could bundle my branches/sticks. They said service would start the next day and was biweekly. I was surprised by that and said, "Really, the next day?" and they confirmed this. I hauled my 7 heavy bags of yard waste and two huge piles of sticks/branches down the driveway after a big rain storm. The next day, my yard waste was not picked up with the other recycling and garbage. Today I called and they said the other service agent was completely wrong. The prices were different and she said they would never be able to schedule next day service. My yard bags and sticks won't be picked up for two more weeks! Very unhappy with this company! read more

Avoid this company at all costs. Garbage collection is not rocket science; you pay a fee, and a guy in a truck picks up the refuse every week. Advanced Disposal cannot understand that simple premise. You pay a fee, and they don't pick up. I got a call from them this week stating that I hadn't paid. I mentioned the confirmation e-mail I got from Advanced Disposal proving that I'd electronically paid my bill online over two weeks ago. They apologized for the mistake and assured me that someone would come out and make good on the missed pickup. The truck did not pick up. I called the next day, again more assurances, and no pickup. I'm trying to dispose of a refrigerator and water softener. According to Brookfield's website, I am supposed to contact advanced disposal. I did that last week, and they said to have the stuff out by the driveway by 7 AM Monday morning. We did just that. I called at 10:30 wondering where they are. They said the pick up would be sometime before 6 PM. I called the next day, and they said somebody put a note in the system and that I didn't have my stuff out at 8:45. I explained to them they are either lying or got the address wrong. They said the address isn't wrong so I'm questioning their ethics. Now they said I have to wait another 24 hours for them to contact somebody else in the company to find out when they are going to pick it up. Last week was the FOURTH time this company has skipped my entire street! I called the last 3 times and was given the runaround. On hold forever! (Higher than usual call volumes. Wonder why?) Finally after 2 days of no trash pickup I was given the excuse that the power lines make it impossible to collect the trash. Funny. No one else, including this company, has ever had an issue like this not to mention THERE ARE NO POWER LINES ANYWHERE NEAR OUR TRASH CANS! I called my city's DPW department and they sent workers with a pickup truck to collect my can and my two neighbor's cans. Tomorrow is trash day. Let's see if they can get their act together. Also, I recycle, A LOT! I ordered a second recycle cart to help me keep up with the amount. I was told that the extra cart would be $25 and there would be a small additional charge to my collection bill. Also, the cart would take 5-7 days for delivery. Well, they took my payment for the cart right away. I'm being billed extra for the service. Just one problem: It's been over a month and I still don't have the extra cart I paid for. I proved it showing bank transaction. Advanced Disposal admitted later that they diverted my payment to another company they just bought out. Told me I had a previous balance from 2012. NOT TRUE! I have been a loyal customer for a number of years and in the past stood up for them; however, I can no longer recommend this company. I see others who share my opinions about missing pickups, not issuing credits, and being on hold for hours. I too have experienced this but for me it is yard waste pick-up. I do a lot of yard work and have used the yard waste pick-up happily without issues. This year I couldn't even get someone to let me know when it started, if I was set up for it, and yes many unanswered calls, messages, and e-mails. Finally a very nice person who helped me in the past stepped up even though it was no longer his job. He told me they had been picking up for a while, he set me up to start that Friday, and told me every other Friday through November. He was very helpful helpful but I was hesitant so although I had 15 bags waiting I only put out 5 of my lightest ones just in case they didn't come. Friday comes, no pickup, I text the person who helped and he said he would see what he could do. Saturday it was picked up. Two weeks later my next scheduled pickup. I haul out the other bags and some had been in my garage so long they were falling apart had to debag them. Friday nothing, I send a text and hope they will be picked up Saturday, nothing. Rain, water, and nothing picked up I am livid and so feed up. I put all of those wet bags in my truck and wish I could drop them off right at Advance Disposals door. Terrible, terrible customer service. I've been on hold for customer service for over an hour. This is typical. Even if you can reach a rep, you get someone who not only can't solve any problems, but who is also annoyed and annoying. Any question or request is simply ground up in the great corporate maw and forgotten. When we started with them, they went to the wrong address -- the wrong street, actually, since it had a similar name. I had to practically drive to their facility to convince them that they were going to the wrong place. After many calls, they figured it out. You never know if they'll come for a pickup if there's weather, even if other companies are making pickups. No system of communication such as an opt-in email list. All my neighbors abhor this company as well, and we plan on signing on with a competitor. read more

Takes them over a month to get your containers to you, then takes over a month to come pick them up, but they still want to charge you. If you deal with them, RECORD YOUR CALLS.
