My children have been here since pre-school. My youngest is about to start intermediate school (5th…read moregrade) and my eldest is about to start high school in a few days. Castle Hills is a part of our DNA. The superintendent is a man with more enthusiasm, dedication, compassion and commitment to student and family success than anyone I've ever known. Teachers are dedicated. The curriculum is challenging and the family-like environment fosters life-long friends and memories. I should know, I graduated from Castle Hills in 1992 and still have the same best friends from those days. If you want your child to know they are loved by Jesus and are more than just a face in the crowd, try The Christian School at Castle Hills.

As a 52 year old man, I have recently discovered that their assistant principle is Trudy Elmer. She…read moreis a child abuser and has no business work with or around children. If you are considering this school, be warned that it is run by a woman who has committed long term violent child abuse on many children, myself included when I was under her watch. I will give context below. I was enrolled at Believers academy in the 1980s at which Trudy was the 7th-12th grade english teacher. During my 3 years at that school, Trudy committed acts of violence on me and others so many times that I can not honestly give an accurate number, but I would say its a safe bet that she beat me personally (or by proxy having another teacher do it because she felt like it didnt hurt me enough for her tastes) at least 50-100 times over the course of my enrollment in that school. Let me start by saying I am Christian, and I do believe there is a place for corporal punishment in child raising. But this schools entire staff used wooden paddles (which Trudy and one of her proxies literally broke over me at least twice) and used extreme force and phisical violence for any infraction no matter how small. To give a few examples, the very first time she bent me over and beat me was because at lunch time I was talking to the children seated next to me before I had completed eating my entire lunch. I remember it vividly. I didnt want to eat some part of it and was done as far as I was concerned, but Trudy did not care for that for whatever reason, and she took me in a small back room which was literally too small to hold classes in, and was the dedicated spanking room in that building. and she teed off on me like no one had ever done before. I remember looking back at her while she was doing it and seeing her wind up like a baseball pithcher and swinging for the fences. Other reasons She would beat me included forgetting to turn in a daily assignment, or for talking in class, not having some piece of school supplies (pencils notebook, or forgetting a book at home) Any comment that she didnt approve of was met with violence, and this woman clearly delighted in these beatings. At one point she broke her paddle on me, and made me wait in that room while she went and found another one. I was hyperactive and at that age I wasnt able to follow the structure of the school as well as others, so after she realized her beatings didnt fix me, she made the assumption that she just wasnt hitting me hard enough, so she recruited a male staff member to beat me for her while she watched from that point on. there was at least one other time that person brok e a paddle on me while acting as her proxy as well. Trudy was constantly on watch for any slip up of any kind, and during my 8th grade year I recall a chunk of time where she or some man at her direction hit me every single day for several weeks. I was Traumatized by that school in general, but primarily by her beating so much so that I am still suffering with significant trauma related issues over it. That school (believers academy) was very heavy handed with child beating, but Trudy was by far the worst offender. After suffering at her hands for several years, I finally was able to convince my parents to send me to another school, but the scars from being so horribly abused by this woman have never fully healed. Using the name of God to abuse 12 and 13 year old children is the absolute height of despicable behavior, both for the children she abused, AND for the reputation of any school that would allow such a person to continue to work with children. I know there are others who suffered the same or similar abuse from her, but to be fair an honest I dont know if Castle Hills School is aware of her behavior. After nearly 40 years of holding this pain and anger at being so taken advantage of and abused by this woman, I decided to call her out for it about a year ago via messaging her on facebook. she immediately blocked me wihtout so much as a response, so I do not believe that the time since has changed her enough to repent for her cruel and malicious behavior. PLEASE do not send your children to this school unless Trudy Elmer is removed from this place of access and authority over your kids. I am a parent now, and the thought of my son suffering the way I did makes my blood boil. I have held onto my faith in God and my belief in the Bible inspite of her vile behavior, but I can not in good concience allow this woman to continue to hold such a position without warning parents of her abuse. This is not anonymous, my name is Robert Johnson, and I will talk with any staff administration who want more details, but if you are an administrator at this school please look into her past. I am not the only one with stories like this. I believe Castle Hills may be a fine school, but until she is gone, your students are in danger.

My daughter loved her old school and was quite disappointed when we told her that she was going to a new school. However, after 4 months, she has acclimated well and have nothing but good things to say about her teachers and classmates. She finds the work challenging and exciting. The school has taught her and our family a new way to approach reading. They teach Latin and have poetry wars. They also have an after school program that is an extension to their education and not just babysitting. The after school teachers help with homework and pick up is until 6 pm. They also have after school clubs with nominal charge. What is most important to my family was the school's faculty and their program for kids with special needs. My son was diagnosed with a rare disorder in October, that affected him neurologically. Some of the staff from school and after school program visited him, including Mr. Brogran (assistant headmaster). We love his teacher Mrs. Laird. She is a smart, kind, and loving teacher. She visited him in the hospital twice. My son had missed 2 1/2 months of school from being sick. Ms. Ernest (teacher), has been so patient in teaching him at home. She has been an important part of his education. We drive to school at least an hour twice a day, sometimes longer. We decided to move closer to the school since our kids loved being there.

The faculty does nothing when something serious happens. My child has come home telling me that many children say the n word and many other offensive things but the staff does NOTHING. She would always come home depressed because she had barely any friends and the children would leave her out. I would never send any of my other children here. They have a long way to go. They a very small variety of classes and everyone does the same courses. I want to give them zero starts but that's not possible so l'll give them a 1. New! More ways to react to reviews.

We are so incredibly lucky in San Antonio to have the Winston school…read more My son is off the charts intelligent but had a difficulty in learning. He went to the summer school in 2019 and frankly learned more that summer than he did in the entire year before. He feels accepted, and acknowledged, and the administrators, teachers and staff do an incredible job promoting children that learn differently. This was a life changer. I went from a child that cried to go to school, to a child that adores his school, and can't wait to go. In the words of my son, "mommy, Winston isn't is my school,it's my family" So grateful!

After an incident from today with Mr. Yocham discharging one of the best teachers they have and in…read morethe manner he did so in front of all the middle school students, I've had enough. This school was not equipped for online learning nor did the teachers care to make the changes to pay any attention to those students learning online. If I could give no stars I sure would. From the beginning this school has been an issue. From the fact that they test your student at the beginning of the school year after being out for summer and expecting them to be where they were the previous year. Just so they can then separate your student from their grade level and mix them with lower class students. That I find demoralizing to the student and telling them YES you are dumb. When in fact all it is is that "you learn different". Any other school can do a way better job then this school. This is just an over priced school for your child to not grow. No wonder they feel dumb because the school is sticking them with the lower grade level and it's seen. They have no academic plan for your students growth because "every student is different" in other words they will not make that personal plan to help your child grow. If your child is excelling out of the class they're in the school will not say anything. My daughter was so bored in her classes and not challenged enough. I spoke up to the school and they moved her to a higher level class and what would you know she continued to excel in her studies. Your child has a better chance at a public school and getting better help than here at Winston. Your child will not grow at a progressive rate as you will expect to happen. The athletics department is a joke as well so I hope your child is not an athlete. All 3 years that my daughter had to attend here not once did the Volleyball team nor basketball team win a game. The AD Mr. Borth just goes through the motions of what's needed but is also a very rude person. His wife Mrs. Borth told my child along with a group of other girls to get it together because they were upset and she had a tour to give in a few minutes. Yes this happed today 05/19/2022 so again this is not the school you want your child to go too. It's not worth the college tuition they charge along with everything thing else they will charge you. Find you a school that will benefit your child's educational growth. If you can tough it out IDEA is a real good structural school. Even specific private schools around the area. Do your research and don't fall for all the smiles. Ask questions, know who's certified to teach because as you know private school teachers don't have to be certified.

They publish a catalog that they'll mail out to you if you ask, or you can stay updated on their website. The course descriptions seem to be accurate, and the class fees include the materials like textbooks. The classes range from language classes, to accounting, to painting, knitting- they offer a wide variety of fun, practical classes. Each teacher I've had so far has been knowledgeable, qualified, clear spoken with a lesson plan and handouts. The classes are held at various locations around town, from high schools to community centers. The signage is generally good. Taking classes here is too cool for school!

My kids did not receive the accommodations specified in their 504 regularly, and I didn't receive timely 504 updates. My gifted kids were in GT in SAISD and in Northside ISD, but NEISD decided they could not be in the program because of one test administered on 1 day at the school headquarters. Another failure of NEISD is their lack of care for the less fortunate students and families. There is no affordable after school care or summer programs available. The schools on the wealthier neighborhoods (Stone Oak, etc) have nice new facilities and athletic fields, and the schools that are in less desirable neighborhoods have run down buildings and athletic fields. It's no wonder so many charter schools are becoming popular. It's really disgusting and the district should be ashamed to call themselves public education. It's all about money and politics, apparently.
