Franco's Auto Service has been in Kamloops for, well, as long as i can remember and arguably the most respected independent auto service business in Kamloops. Franco's unofficially specializes in the higher end European and Japanese vehicles but don't worry he will work on your POS as well :P Franco is one of those old school European trades people, he takes his craft and reputation VERY seriously. An ex-Ferrari race mechanic (yea, no kidding!); although, he has long since stopped turning wrenches himself and has focused on running his business. I understand that Franco expects the same pride in their craft of his technicians as he has, thus they are among the best in Kamloops. Francos' boasts very clean, bright and organized facility... I don't think eating off the floor would be recommended, but you probably could, safely. A full service shop, from oil changes in your Ford Focus to replacing the transmission in your 5 series BMW, at rates that are better than the dealer. Aside to the service, Franco does deal in used vehicles to a minor degree (usually 1/2 dozen vehicles at a time), offering mostly VW and Honda. These cars are generally in very good shape, thus not cheap used, but quality used.

Since I needed to keep heading north for another couple hours, I decided to get it looked at. I didn't spend too much time looking up reviews, just wanted to find a place nearby. I called Southgate and while they warned me they were closing soon and may not be able to repair anything, they said they'd at least take a look. I showed up, they asked a few questions, and then took the truck in while my girlfriend and I waited outside. About 20 mins later the guy called us back into the office where one of the mechanics explained that a rod connecting the A/C compressor to the engine had failed and was causing overheating and the noise. He said that if I had kept driving, the whole engine would have seized up! Amazing! These guys just saved me thousands of dollars and being stranded for days. They disconnected the compressor and removed the plate and now, while the AC wouldn't work, the engine was safe to drive. When I asked how much I owed them, they politely waived me off. "No charge" they said. I tried to insist, but it was no use. Have you ever heard of such a thing?! These guys are not only pros, they're damn honest and community minded. I live down in Vancouver so can't throw much business their way, but if you live around Kamloops, choose Southgate and support a business who cares about people and goes above and beyond -- even when they don't need to. Five stars is not nearly enough.

When we went back immediately to talk to the service manager, she said 'oh they are just superficial and they should buff out' ... at no time did she look at the car before saying this?? Did she know the scratches were there after service was completed and before I picked it up and failed to have the pick up desk tell me? Took the car back a few days later to have their 'buffer-girl' try to buff it out and some scratches came out but the one on the door looked much worse. Had to take the car back again to have the door painted and the deeper scratch on the hood painted. Kirmac did a great job on the door but the service manager didn't tell them about the other big scratch on the hood. We got the car back and didn't want to take it back a fourth time to have the hood scratch done. TERRIBLE SERVICE and what an inconvenience! Very disappointing they were not upfront about having done damage. I will never go to the Kamloops Hyundai for service again.
