It all started out great. I own a 4 plex and the adjacent property (also a 4 plex that mirrors mine) owner got 3 bids. I checked reviews on Yelp & Home Advisor and because of the great reviews chose Advance Asphalt. The adjacent property owner said ok (we share a common driveway in need of new asphalt; as well as, our individual carport areas).The day after the job was complete dirt, sewage, and waste started to fill up the toilette & tub of my lower unit. An issue we never experienced before. When the plumber came out there was a huge chunk of asphalt blocking the pipe in the sewer box. A box Advance Asphalt raised 2" to accommodate for the asphalt overlay. The owners father and an employee came and chiseled out the asphalt, under the asphalt was a huge amount of dirt that ended in my waste disposal pipe. After they emptied out the broken up asphalt & dirt into one of my tenants garbage cans (and told me not to worry because they would empty the can, which of course they didn't) didn't assume responsibility because there wasn't a cap (or popper) over the waste pipe. They also didn't or wouldn't tell me how the asphalt ended up hardened inside my sewer box, and since dirt ended up in the pipe it was basically my problem. When I called the owner he put me on speaker phone (since his Dad was the one who came out we were all 3 trying to talk). They use heavy machinery that vibrates, and the fact that we had no cap that would have stopped any material from falling into your sewer pipe. But aren't they aware as a contractors operating such equipment that that could have happened, and should have checked when he raised it? He obviously didn't bother to look in the sewer box or he would have seen the asphalt that ended up on top of that mess sealing it in. Why did asphalt end up in the sewer box? Then his Dad had the audacity to lie and said the plumbers said it wasn't their fault, I was there the whole time and that was never said. Obviously it was put there and most likely so was the dirt. At the end of the frustrating call he said "What do you want I'm willing to work with you!" My bill was over $2,000 to repair what happened. He assumed no responsibility and said he would maybe help with $200. During this tag team (on their part) 3 way convo I was made to feel like a stupid female. I was told I wasn't understanding, yet the answer as to why asphalt ended up in the sewer box was never answered. I even suggested having them talk to my husband, and he replied have your husband call, I'm busy and hung up on me. I have and idea keep your $200 and my husbands time is too precious to bother with you. read more
