While my dad was alive, they were able to live on their own alone as they kind of had complementary health issues where together as a team they could manage on their own. Her and my dad were married over 60 years and the loss of my dad left her feeling very alone and empty inside and there were things my mom knew she could no longer manage on her own every day. I have a full time job and 3 sons, so I was not able to be there to help her out during the day with getting to appointments, making sure she is eating well, keeping the house picked up, and providing some companionship during the day, which were her initial needs. My brother and sister live out of state, but we talked and agreed that we would share in the cost of bringing in a part time caregiver for Mom. I talked to some of my friends who use caregivers for their parents and was not able to get a good reference, so I went on line and found 3 in-home care agencies in my area to interview and compare services and prices. After talking to all 3 agencies, I decided to go with Caring Companions Referral Agency. I spoke with Melissa, who is the owner, and she immediately made me feel at ease. She clearly explained the entire process to me and I liked the fact that her and her husband own and run the agency. I also found that Melissa was able to offer me the lowest rate out of the 3 agencies I called, and that was certainly a factor in my decision as well along with my brother and sister. Initially I started my Mom with 4 hours per day Monday through Friday, and then I was able to personally cover the weekends. Recently this past year however, I had to increase my Mom's hours to 8 hours per day Monday through Friday because it is getting harder and more risky for my mom to get around on her own and do some of the personal hygiene things on her own like bathing and grooming as she is now 92, but she is still as sharp as a nail! Whenever Mom's caretaker is going to be on vacation or is sick, Melissa has always been able to find a capable replacement to cover. I am very happy with the service I receive from Caring Companions Referral Agency, but most importantly my mom is happy she gets to continue to stay at home and has developed a very nice bond with her caregiver. I have recommended Caring Companions Referral Agency to a couple of my friends in the past 3 years, and they also signed up with them for Caregiving services. A woman…read morenamed Mary answered the phone, and when I asked to speak to the owner, she rudely snapped "WHO IS THIS"?!?!? The rude way she spoke to me was totally uncalled for. There are many ways to get that info without being rude and mean about it. You can say: "With whom do I have the pleasure of speaking?", for example. Or: "May I tell her who is calling?" Anything but for the nasty way she spoke to me! And, when I spoke to Deanna [the owner] about it, instead of apologizing to me for the rudeness, she defended Mary, and basically said that they get so many phone calls that they get tired of answering the phone! REALLY??? So, I guess that they have all the business they can reasonably handle. In my mind the only reason to be so rude is if you have something to hide. That is what I took away from the experience. That this business has something they are trying to hide. I'll never use this service again. And, I certainly would never trust an elder in their care.

My mother was approaching 95 years old and was now experiencing the onset of Dementia. She was living in an awesome senior living community in Riverside, CA. where the care was top notch! Because my mother's Dementia was now rapidly progressing, the management would have placed her in memory care. We did not want that to happen so our dear friend Jackie recommended bringing in hospice care to provide this additional care. There was no cost to our family for this amazing service! Christina, the owner, personally visited my mother in her room in Riverside. The care nurses came with all of the necessary supplies. They were checking on my mother several times per day. They showed genuine compassion for my mother and my family members. Their staff physician made assessments and recommendations to improve my mother's condition. I had nurses calling to update me on my mother's current condition on a regular basis. They even scheduled to have oxygen and a hospital type of bed to prevent bed sores as my mother's condition now limited her mobility. This level of care not only augmented the excellent level of care provided by the facility but, they exceeded my mother's level of care well beyond my expectations. Their Chaplain, Jackie kept us informed about everything that was going to happen and provided the kind of loving care that you would only expect from a family member. This type of service is only driven this way from the top down. Clearly, the hiring practice is targeting passionate people to provide this type of care. There is not enough space here to describe the awesome service that Community Care Hospice provided for my mother and our family before her passing.
