My brother and I went to five different assisted and Memory Care Facilities around the Temecula Murrieta area, and all of their memory cares look like zombieland. Very few caregivers, everybody sitting around doing nothing, no music, no one doing activities no laughing and very very depressing. And then we found Vineyard Ranch. The facility is beautiful and very well-kept. When we walked into the memory care, everybody was out of their rooms and doing something. People were laughing, talking activities were going on everywhere, and staff were visible throughout the rooms. Completely different environment and that made us very, very happy. She has been there for 3 weeks now, and she doesn't mention going home at all. She tells everyone this is her home and that she loves it there. She's always doing an activity and keeping busy. She's made a lot of friends. The food is good and she finishes all of her meals. Staff are always there to keep an eye on everyone. After any exercise, the staff brings everyone protein smoothies. Every Thursday they have an excursion to someplace fun and stimulating. At a time when dealing with a situation like this, it can be extremely stressful and create feelings of guilt. Vineyard Ranch has made the transition smooth, easy, and very pleasant. We are so happy to see Mom happy laughing and involved. Couldn't ask for more than that.

My advice is to go daily to always check up on your loved ones in memory care. Always. They need the support. My mom lived in the Assisted living and loved the staff. She was completely cognitive and only had physical demands. So many amazing activities (although she only chose to go to bingo and read). The food was good and nutritious but like any business never enough staff to get things done promptly. This is a hardship on the kind staff already there trying to keep up. But they always knew to smile and be patient with elderly challenged residents of the wait time was long for assistance. Again visit often and get to know those that are hands on with your most important loved ones, your parents. Atria in Temecula is more affordable than many assisted living places and the grounds are gorgeous and the perfect location. Just stretching the staff to be enough is my only concern. The wait time for most meals and assistance. I will always appreciate the time my mom had and even when she had to leave for rehab she wanted to go back. That says a lot.

Kat plans a wide variety of fun, engaging, and meaningful activities that keep residents active and connected. She had a bladder problem that meant she needed to go to the bathroom a lot and at her last place, her diaper would often be really wet, which made her skin red and irritated. But at Pebble Brook, that redness went away because the staff made sure to take her to the bathroom whenever she needed to go. They were really attentive, listened to her needs and even paid attention to what she liked to eat, watch on TV and listen to in music. She went above and beyond to make sure he received the proper care, love, and support throughout his stay. Based on what my dad has shared with me, I have serious concerns about neglect and the lack of basic care and compassion he deserves. My father has told me that he is left in soiled diapers for 45 minutes or longer, that staff ignore his call light when he needs help, and that they become upset with him when he has to call out for assistance. He also reports that his nails are not trimmed and that he is sometimes passed over on his scheduled shower days. Even more concerning, he has a sore near his bottom that causes him pain when staff clean him. Despite his complaints of pain, he says that nothing has been applied to help soothe or protect the affected area. My father has been left disabled after suffering several strokes, and I understand that he can sometimes be grumpy, demanding, and difficult to deal with. He is frustrated with his situation, and I know he doesn't always communicate kindly. However, that does not excuse a lack of care, compassion, or attention from the people responsible for looking after him. Every patient deserves to be treated with dignity and respect, regardless of their temperament. I live more than four hours away, which makes it difficult for me to visit regularly and personally check on his care. That distance makes this situation even more upsetting because I have to worry about whether my father is receiving the attention he needs when family cannot be there. I cannot say what motivates the staff's behavior, but the pattern of concerns my father has described leaves me feeling that his needs are not being taken seriously. I should not have to worry that my father is being left uncomfortable, ignored when he needs help, or denied basic personal care. Our loved ones deserve to feel safe, respected, and cared for in a healthcare facility. They should never feel like a burden for needing assistance. I am deeply unhappy with what my father has described, and I sincerely hope management takes these concerns seriously and makes meaningful improvements to the quality of care provided to its residents. No family should have to wonder whether their loved one is being neglected simply because they cannot be there to advocate for them every day.
