We have been ADT customers for over two years, and our experience has been extremely frustrating. After moving into our new home, we purchased a significant amount of equipment,much of which has been consistently defective. We were told service calls would be free for a period of time, but that was not honored. We have been charged repeatedly for service visits. More recently, we noticed double charges on our monthly bill. When my husband called to address it, he was told very rudely that because of an issue with our equipment, they "manually" processed something and charged us twice. That is not an acceptable business practice. You cannot just double charge customers without clear authorization or explanation. To make matters worse, instead of resolving the issue, we were redirected to another company regarding app-related equipment. The lack of accountability and customer service is concerning. A storm knocked out power to my house. When power came back online, it fried our system. 1. ADT didn't call me to tell me that the system was down. 2. When I told them that the system was down, it took them 2 weeks to come to my house to tell me that it would cost $1300 to fix the system. 3. When I canceled the service, they charged me a breakup fee. 4. When I complained about them stealing money from me without service, they said it was in the contract and on me to pay for no service. I ordered a new system on the phone explained my needs, I was sent a bunch of things that could not accommodate me at all. I tried to cancel 2 times over two days, the second time i was told they said they would be sending me a shipping label to return the unused equipment. We are moving into a new home. We live in CT and the new home is in CA. While we were still in CT, ADT tele-sales sold us a system. Free equipment and install with a low monthly monitoring charge. We bought the package and gave the rep a credit card. When installation time came, ADT tried to jack up the price by $1000 and almost double the cost of monitoring. No thank you we said. They acknowledged they sold us the package at original price but simply decided they no longer liked the deal. Beware in our opinion of seemingly bait and switch like tactics. read more

On two separate occasions, ADT called in the final hour of the appointment window to cancel service appointments to my home. In both instances, I had taken off work to wait for the technician. I am also leaving this bad review because a piece of equipment that ADT installed has broken for the second time. They've told me that it's now obsolete, so now rather than fixing it, they want me to pay hundreds of dollars to upgrade MY ENTIRE SYSTEM (keypads and all sensors). Not only did I just post the unresolved issue that I have been dealing with for the past 2 months and how the technician that was sent to my house falsely told me that I had to buy new equipment and charged me $733. But now in response to my prior Yelp review I just got an email from ADT stating that they are sorry that I want to cancel services and that I will be charged $1180 for an early termination fee! They are the worse of the worse!!! I had ADT at my previous address for 14 years, then I moved to my current address last year August. I called them about a transfer of service so that means whatever I had in my previous is to be transferred to my current address, plus I'm adding the google camera on the back door. That's exactly what I told them. The technician came out. He gave me recommendations which included a discount on the google camera. I changed my mind from the camera so I called ADT on the spot and cancelled the camera on the account. Would you believe that even though I cancelled the camera and the technician physically took it away I was still being charged for it? I was livid!! What I was told was that the camera was never removed from my account!!! The technician secretly added it on while he physically removed the camera and SOLD IT TO SOMEONE ELSE!! I told ADT that they have thieves working in their company!!! They did not reimburse me and I'd to call them three times to clarify this matter!! The technician didn't install the sensor at one of my doors so I asked ADT, "what was he thinking? Planning to come back for a robbery spree with entrance through the unsensored door?" I have to get away from this company even if I've to go through the attorney general because NYS AG is a wolf, she doesn't play with unscrupulous companies who love to rip off customers!! Been with ADT for 15 years and just moved into a new home. When we called to transfer service, nobody told us about the loyalty program or anything that we are entitled to for being a customer so long. Then the tech came, installed 3 glass breakers and billed us $318. We tried 4 times to reach customer service last week and kept getting transferred then disconnected. I spent nearly 90 minutes on the website chat trying to reach someone in account services. They said I need to call. Called the account services number, waited on hold 44 minutes and got a representative. The line was distorted and I was having trouble understanding what she was saying. She said she needed to "clear the line" and would call me right back. She repeated my number back to me and said this is her "only job" and would "call me right back". That was over a half hour ago. Arguably the worst customer service of any company I've dealt with. Stay clear. UPDATE* "alwaysthere@adt.com" responded saying they tried to call us 4 times" (which they didn't. When we said we would like to cancel our service, they said -"Please note that all cancellation requests require a 30 day notice. Additionally, terminating service early will generate a final balance of 75 percent of the remaining contract terms. Your new service agreement does not expire until 12/20/2025. " So essentially threatening us. Awesome. Just another reason for anyone considering ADT to stay clear. Pretty terrible. read more

Very bad experience. Equipment was not installed correctly from the first day. We cancelled within three business days of the contract. ADT continued to bill us for three months. Multiple phone calls to ADT each time being assured that our cancellation was in place only to be billed again. Very happy with Alarm New England. read more

2 months after having our security system activated, 8 of the sensors don't work. We called to get service, booked an appointment and waited at the house during the 2 hour window they gave us. Nobody showed up for the appointment. We called to find out what happened. The woman that answered the phone was very aggressive. She told us that since we used the old equipment that was here when we bought the house, they won't come to repair it. She reminded me that we have a 3 year contract and we can't get out of it. So we have a security system that doesn't work and 2 years and 10 months left on the contract. Avoid ADT at all costs. Trust me, the good price isn't worth the contact and no support. read more

ADT has changed their standards from when I became a customer back in 2007. They no longer send a representative to check your equipment if you are having a problem or testing the system to make sure detectors are have a proper reading and/or sensitive to smoke. I just sold my house and must pay the entire contract no matter if I still need the service or not. That means, for me, I am paying an additional 5 months plus tax. The representative also said that a supervisor would not be able to assist me since this is their policy. One of the worst companies ever!!! Spent hours on the phone trying to figure out why my smoke detectors didn't work after replacing with brand new batteries. Seems that after five years the detectors died. Took me two months to schedule an appointment to replace the smoke detectors The first appointment was scheduled two weeks after my first phone call. The guy never showed up. I called ADT, spent another hour on the phone to complain and was told someone would be there the following week with the new detectors. Just so you know, your home insurance requires you to have working smoke detectors - and if they are not working and you have a fire, insurance does cover you. So, the second guy does show up but claimed he was never told to bring new smoke detectors - which was a lie - he just didn't want to do the work. I told him he might as well leave, which he did. I then called ADT again and they called him to go and pick up the detectors and return to replace them. He said he would. After waiting another two hours for him, I called ADT again and they called him only to have him tell them that he did not go and pick them up as he was too busy. REALLY??? So now it is two months later and I still have no working smoke detectors and now my carbon monoxide detectors have gone out as well. All installed five years ago and now all have to be replaced at over a thousand dollars - it seems that every five years (they have a shelf life) you need to replace everything. I am so disgusted with this company - and am looking for another company. Then discovered that the first ADT installer left a large hole in my wall - that I now need to get fixed. This company is the worst - and by the way, you are expected to replace all the batteries yourself every year. DO NOT USE ADT. Have already called another company. Trying to get a sensor reinstalled after room renovations. I tried their "chat" service and that turns out to be a robotic system that never responds correctly, frustrating. So the phone attempt took over 35 mins to speak to a rep to set up appointment, but the Techniciam would callback within 48 hours to set it. I called back after 72 hours for another 35min hold time to be told again they will call writhing 48 hours...? On day 6, I get a call and the first appointment is the 13th?? Will be looking into a different, probably self owned Security System very soon!! Do your own hardwired system!! read more

Then I come in one day and we have a meeting with the salesforce and our new manager. Afterward, I get called into the office and I was let go. We just sold our house and went to cancel our service with this company that we used for the past nine years. We were told 3 months ago that we needed to have our system upgraded which we did. We asked what would happen if we sold our house and we're told that the company hoped the new owners would continue with the service.... Never once did the salesperson say that we would be responsible to pay off the three year contract they had us sign If we sold our house. So, today we're out over $1,000.00. ADT has been the worst system ever. In last 14 months I have had nothing but issues with things not working like sensors to where if there was a fire the adt people wouldn't get the alarm. We were told 3 weeks they can fix it. Carbon WASNT working too and we had 5 false alarms to which we almost got fined Alarm goes off in middle of the night they didn't call us or police stating they didn't get a signal but swear the system is working. ... customer service is rude and think you shouldn't be upset and instead of dealing with issues they want to send you to cancellation department.. they talk over you with their not caring attitude. Company sub leases you to another company. Promises "free equipment and installation" on the up front cost of 99$ to be refunded via visa card. Never got the rebate. Alarm system keeps going off for no reason. They keep calling me at work to trouble shoot the codes. Nothing is working then are gonna charge me 99$ to come service their faulty equipment? Sales call said NO CONTRACT , and 29.99 a month. First month bill was 69, then 57, kept changing? They added equipment I never asked for and when I called to cancel they said I had a 3 year contract!! And they would bill me over 3000 to cancel! I asked for the contract I supposedly signed they sent me some online signed documents? I will be taking they to court. They billed the service call without permission gave me no confirmation and didn't ask...don't give these people your information. read more

They called me on a referral from my home inspection company and proceeded to tell me they were going to charge me this, that , and the other thing for a quote and promised me rebates and gift cards to offset the costs, then told me they had to run my credit. I haven't even signed on the house yet! I told that girl I wasn't having my credit run until after I signed on the house and would be willing to call back and set up a visit then, she proceeded to start screaming at me on the phone telling me she could just run my credit anyway! Horrible, don't waste your time or money with this company. It all started when the technician came out to my house and sold us on 3 outdoor cameras, the ring and window and door sensors he arrived at 11 am and left @ 7 pm AND the system wasn't even totally installed. I had to call and reschedule for him to come back out. I made another appointment a few days later to have him text me at 8 pm that he was not coming. Again I had to call and reschedule another appointment, finally after 2 weeks, the system was in. With that being said light covers were left broken or not even put back on. No one even went over the system with us so it was a guessing game to figure out how to get notifications. Got someone @ the 1-800 # to help us out. One of my window sensors is broken and is being held up with tape, made several calls to have it fix to be told someone will be out and no one showed up. This system has not worked properly in my house since the day it was put in. Somehow last month I had over 6000 video clips in the first 15 days of the month, we had to wait until the 1st to receive video clips from our outdoor cameras. The first comes and guess what .....still NOTHING. Made a call first thing in the morning I was told they will reset it and by 11 am it should be working . 4 pm and still nothing, made another phone call, NOW I'm being told they are aware of the problem and are working on it it can take up to 24-48hrs. Basically, I'm boxing this crap up and sending it back, I can buy a system at Costco that works better than this. Don't fall for the name ADT. read more

Can't access my property for 48 hours, thanks to ADT Pulse server crash! Is there no redundancy to rely on in case of emergency (like this)? When I called ADT yesterday, they told me that a server "had an issue" and wasn't functioning, but would be repaired as quickly as possible. Well, 26-hours later they haven't. And a second call today has similarly poor response. I'm shocked that ADT isn't proactive with communication to their customers to assure us! Makes me question the technology that we depend upon to secure our properties. How often do catastrophic failures happen and are there gaps in their on-line security? THESE PEOPLE ARE THE WORST!!! By the time I sold my house and cancelled, they had raised alarm monitoring fees to TWO HUNDRED DOLLARS EVERY THREE MONTHS. EIGHT HUNDRED DOLLARS A YEAR!!! Their repair guys were the sleaziest, nastiest people and one actually stole a body cam I had bought and left by the door -- I had the video to prove it but the ADT guys DIDN'T CARE ENOUGH ABOUT THE THEFT BY THEIR OWN EMPLOYEE TO COME BY TO REVIEW THE VIDEO. Finally -- when I cancelled after selling my house, I informed them they owed me a refund and they promised to send me a check. What I got in the mail was a statement saying I had a "Credit Balance" of $61.15. NO CHECK! So I called them, went through the tedious process, reached someone who took 10 minutes to tell me, "Well, I could send a message to someone telling them you'd prefer to have your refund as a check, but they're not in today, so you might as well call back on Monday." If I could give a minus rating about this company I would. I took over this company last March. ADT could not get me a updated pin since I wasn't on the account. I started requesting a cancellation in August since no one had a pin to activate the system. In september they said I had to submit a letter of cancellation. I did as asked. November they started calling and said we were past due on our bill. I reminded them about the cancellation request. I was then told that I had to sign the request for cancellation. Again I sent this letter. February again received a call from there collection department. Make a long story short the 19th phone call came in today 05/06/2020 that our bill (Which had started as 49.95) has now escalated to over $900.00 because we are not allowed to cancel the account because we don't know our pin. This service takes advantage of young, naive college students. My daughter rented an apartment that had an ADT security system. Being that she living alone, I had her have them turn it on. I wanted her to do it on her own as a learning experience. I should not have done that as they totally took advantage of her naivety. The customer service operator who opened the account never told her that they only do 3-year contracts. The installer who came and had her sign the paperwork that "he was there and did the job" never told her she was also signing the 3-year contract. My daughter is now moving out as her lease is up and she is done with school. When she went to cancel, they told her she could not because she was in a 3-year contract. She told them they never told her that otherwise, she would have never gone with them as she was only in a 1-year lease. They would do nothing for her. When I got on the phone, I spoke to 3 people, including one supervisor, who only tried to get me to purchase her a "mobile" security device that she could take with her....if I signed her up for another 3 years. I told them that this was unacceptable and wanted to speak to a manager. They said a manager would call in 24-48 hours. It's now been 2 weeks and no phone call. This is a very inconsiderate company that preys on the young....sort of an oxymoron considering it is a safety and security company!! They keep raising the price significantly every year with no additional services provided or improved upon for my basic purposes. And poor service when you call for tech support or have them come to the house for repair. This is an awful company to work with. They have their own agenda and do not listen to the customer. They sent out a technician who was poorly trained. He pulled out 2 perfectly good panels and could not get the new panels powered up. I have been trying for months to have a qualified technician come back and correct their technicians mistake and they refuse to do it. Supervisors are never put on the phone and no one calls back. No one will take responsibility for the damage that the technician caused. It is the most dishonest company I have ever dealt with. read more

This company is a bunch of scammers. The sales rep that they sent to my house offered me 3 months free when I activated service. He also said I could cancel within 6 months if I was dissatisfied. Well, after the first charge, I emailed my sales contact and let him know I was charged when I was supposed to get 3 months free. He said that it was months 2, 3, and 4, that would be free. After the second charge, I contacted him again and he said he was on vacation and would contact me when he got back. He never did. I emailed again and said enough is enough and I was dissatisfied and wanted to cancel. The guy told me I could only cancel if I had a specific problem. I said my specific problem was that the system fire alarm went off erroneously and scared the kids and I still didn't get my 3 months free as promised. He never got back to me. I then called the main customer service line, waited about 30 minutes to actually talk to someone and said that I wanted to cancel because of all the reasons I listed above. This guy told me that I had to have 3 service calls within the first 6 months in order to qualify to cancel before my contract was over. After some back and forth and me threatening to write a really bad review, he offered me another month free and to have someone come look at the fire alarm system to see what the problem was. The guy gets here to look at the system and tells me it is $110 for the part to replace it. I told him to just get out. He then made a call and gave me the part for free. Overall, I am completely unhappy with all of this. All I really wanted was to get what I was promised initially. We will see if I ever get those 3 months free but I am not holding my breath. I appreciate that they replaced the part for "free" although I don't know why on Earth they would think that I would give them another penny beyond all the money that I will have to pay over the next few years stuck in a contract that I believe I was falsely conned into signing (thinking I could cancel within 6 months). Moral of the story - there are lots of options for home security. Save yourself the headache of dealing with these guys. read more
