I had been a 20 year Customer and tried to cancel my service due to lack of use. I spoke with a customer care rep who after multiple attempts to get me to continue with lower fees told me that all of the equipment in my house would need to be disassembled by myself and that they do not provide technicians for people who cancel only for people who are moving and continuing the service. I guess that's cements my reasoning of moving on. If there a safety company do they not realize that a customer could possibly be electrocuted while trying to remove their panels. read more

I can't even give them any ratings not even one single star. They DO NOT deserve it. I have never been so glad to be done with this ADT home security services. So disappointed, I can't remember them all. Trying to get to speak with and deal with a live and for real person that speaks English was unbelievable. The majority of the time I spoke to Ai. The trouble shooting was no good. Everytime a tech had to come out in person if that was even possible. I had to pay and was charged whenever I had problems that was never solved. Plus they kept repeating itself. Many packages that I paid for were taken/stolen from my porch, but no recording from it. The latest just last month. When I came out of my house to check my mail in my mailbox. Some young lady came to my mailbox to meet me to let me know that she was the one that rang my doorbell. I thanked her for that, but there was no recording when she entered my yard less known entering my porch. Plus I started to call them on Saturday. Ai said that I had to call back on a weekday/business day when the office opened again. Ok I called back on Monday by 9ish am. Got Ai once again. So I didn't get nor talked to anyone, a live person until 3pm the same day. She was a foreigner. I kept asking her to repeat herself, so she acted like she got an attitude with me, because I couldn't understand what she was trying to tell me. So I write down everyone that I spoke to over the phone. Plus I asked them to spell it. I had to go through so many and too many changes in order to cancel from them. I had to keep telling them over and over again several times why I wanted nothing else to do with them period. I shouldn't have to go through all of those changes in order to cancel from them. Before I hung up all together I wanted a confirmation number, and a confirmation letter of cancellation. The local office here never answered the phone, because I wanted to return all of their equipment that belonged to them. They said that the equipment was mine, and I didn't owe them anything. So if anyone else is trying to cancel with a this particular security services. Good luck on any of that. Plus I will advise you to get with and go in person to talk to one of your bank representative to inform them to put a block on all of transactions that ADT will try to withdraw after the fact. We closed on our home on March 31st. Since then Safe haven has been at our home 2 times, neither time equipped with the necessary items to do our smart home install which was included in our closing. The first time your respective arrived he only came to sell ADT products which we declined before hand. His sole purpose was to install our door bell camera which he didn't even have. However he kept pitching the security system and we decided to try it out with our ring camera supposedly getting installed another day. We decided we didn't actually want the security so we scheduled the time for pick up WITH the time for the door bell install. The same thing happened again and there so no doorbell camera with the technician. I called Safe Haven about this with no resolution as the outcome. The customer service provider basically said she would need to speak with the technician. We ended up scheduling a weekend date for a tech to come out and install the door bell. We confirmed the appointment on Thursday with the install being today May 2nd. Well this morning we received notification that our appointment had been canceled with no explanation besides "idk" and that we would be contacted to reschedule at a later date. This is unacceptable to me. To be a security company, making sure your residents have what they need should be a main priority especially after the continuously hiccups that have happened. This past August ADT called and wanted me to renew my contract and I told them I would have to talk to my husband first. They said they would call back at another time. We had another security company come to us with a better deal so I mailed a handwritten letter letting them know that I didn't want there service anymore as of 3/27/26. Now they are charging me an early contact cancelation fee. They spoke with my husband and said they would remove it but I just got charged the FULL AMOUNT TODAY!! They also said they would go back and review the recording where I said NO back in August and give me a call back last week in 24-48 hours. I guess they really meant days. read more

First of all, I was put into a contract that I wasn't even aware of. I'm in the process of moving and can't take my equipment with me, so when I spoke with a previous representative, I was told I would only be responsible for the equipment fee, which was around $300. Now I'm receiving a final bill for over $800, which makes no sense. When I called to get clarity, the representative I spoke with didn't even try to hear me out--he just said he would email me the contract. This is extremely frustrating. Even canceling a phone line doesn't cost $400+, so how is this justified? No one I spoke to over the years ever mentioned being locked into a long-term contract. I used to have Ackerman Alarm service and then ADT bought Ackerman. Since I have been an ADT customer my bill has gone up and up. I called and was offered a cheaper bill if I locked in for 3 years. Now I REGRET signing up for 3 years. I called in because there was a billing error. It took forever to get a person because the AI fake person made it REALLY difficult to get to a human agent. When I got to the human agent she could not explain the extra charge to my satisfaction. She kept repeating everything I said and sounded like she was speaking with mashed potatoes in her mouth when trying to explain the issue. I REGRET my decision to keep ADT! read more

DO NOT SIGN an ADT CONTRACT!!! It's a trap. It was a frustrating experience to be a ADT customer for a number of reasons: - Countless false alarms at night when the system is not even armed due to low batteries or some mysterious environmental triggers and ADT has never provided any solution to prevent this. Good luck going to work and being productive after a night like that! - Numerous fraudulent charges, which got resolved upon escalation but you have to catch the fraud and then waste your time on the phone trying to dispute. BUT THE REAL NIGHTMARE BEGAN WHEN I TRIED TO CANCEL THE SERVICE. There are no cancelation instruction if you didn't purchase the service online. ADT agents give conflicting and misleading information or outright refuse to help or just ignore you and stop responding. ADT account management team that handles cancelations is unreachable. Upon receiving my written notice of cancelation by mail, ADT refused to process it by imposing additional (and virtually impossible) condition never stated in the contract. For instance, ADT refused to process my written cancelation notice unless I call 800-238-2727, etx 6 EXACTLY 30 days before my contract expires. Guess what, I have already spent numerous hours calling that number before seeking help with the cancelation process and I have never, not never!, been able to reach a human. What this means is that even if you comply with the contract and submit your written notification on time, ADT will impose extraneous and impossible conditions to make it impossible for you to cancel. Do your research, there is a lot of info on reddit about how this company scams people. I wish I did my research when getting into a contract with this fraudulent company. read more

I ended up with ADT not by choice, but by ADT buying up the security service system service company I previously contracted with. So I have been with ADT for the past couple of years due to inertia although I knew they had a less than stellar customer service reputation and a high price point by comparison to others. Most recently, I had to have a tech out to sort out an issue that I could not sort out with the AI 'helper' on the phone -- Ms. Robot could not match up my system with the issue or anything else. When I managed to get a human being on the phone, I arranged for an appointment (the earliest appointment being a week from the point in time where the problem occurred, so not exactly speedy service). I was assured there would be no charge for the service call due to the nature of the problem unless equipment needed to be replaced. So ADT sent some third party supplier in a car with no signage and a plastic badge clipped to their belt (!). No equipment was replaced, but a charge for 62.97 mysteriously appeared on my charge card shortly thereafter (which popped up on my texts as I have all charges flagged by text). It took over an hour on the phone with ADT to resolve -- and I was told yes, the charge was incorrect, they could not explain why it was made, they were sorry, yadda yadda. So I then decided to have my billing removed from autopay as you cannot trust ADT or their contractors or anything they say regarding charges -- so if you are not on top of them every minute, they will take advantage of you. I had a security system installed because my old one was working but was out for a few days and when the rep came he said they no longer could restart the old one . I explained it was working just a few days ago. He said he had to install a new one . He kept messing up on the time frame and was here for a very long time. ADT has been our alarm company for 20 years in Roswell, GA. It worked fine until we needed help. TL:DR ADT customer service is uncooperative and doesn't care about you as a customer. 6 months ago the control panel began displaying random characters as in the photo. It would glitch for a day, then come back. I called 4 times to explain the problem and each time they stubbornly refused to send a service tech. The system began working correctly again so I forgot about it. This would happen every 2 months and they refused again to help. It recovered again so I forgot about it. Their call center agents outright refused to send a tech to the house on 4 different calls. Today. It alarmed twice on leaving the house, I reset it then left. It alarmed abnormally when I entered the house. Then it alarmed on its own with out warning or cause. After speaking to 3 different people, I finally had them agree to send a tech to my house. 6 months to solve a problem that started last year. ADT does not understand how to help customers. Their call center and customer service is horrible and downright stubborn. They will say anything to avoid sending someone to help you. It is frustrating to work with them. We waited on hold 48 minutes. I DO NOT recommend ADT. Their customer service is the worst. Find another company. I am researching a better option. DO NOT BUY. Inept. Clueless. Untrained. ADT is utter trash now. You can pay lots of money for your security system with a monthly subscription only for them to not monitor. I've had multiple issues with ADT but the main issue is not monitoring but requiring you to pay for it. Now they are forcing you to stay in monitoring by removing capabilities from your system. They say monitoring is not required only to lock you out of the app so you can't remote lock your place anymore. Of course, they do not highlight that when signing / installing but they will charge you a ton for the camera and it "may not work" when you try to cancel. They will not and cannot answer the question why to this either. This is something that has changed after the pandemic as I have had ADT at two places and cancelled at my first one only to sign back up later. I wasn't going anywhere and didn't need the monitoring and it didn't work when I actually needed it. When I cancelled the first time, there was no weird language that I would not be able to use my purchased cameras or the data/wifi enabled app. I was still able to access everything. I just didn't have the so-called support if an alarm did trigger which I wanted because it didn't work when I needed it. I later signed back because I was away more and decided at least I would get phone calls if something happened. I would just handle their mess like before. Now they are kicking you out of the app and turning things off for you remotely with no explanation on why it is different years later. The app will say your password is wrong so you can't log into it but when you login to desktop, there is no issue. I checked the password multiple times to make sure. As mentioned, if you don't want monitoring anymore, they have now included that "your system may or may not work anymore" when you go to cancel. I asked the rep how is that possible when it is connected to electricity and wifi. She could not answer and got tongue tied when I pushed back. We paid $5k+ for cameras so I was not about to hear things won't work because you aren't paying $59 a month anymore. They want to force you into monitoring but they do not train their representatives. At my first place, I had my alarm going off randomly for an issue that they could not understand why and never gave a reason for it not working nor did they send out anyone in person to test the issue. They only want you to call with techs but they don't know anything. As I tried to turn off the alarm through the MyADT app, it kept tripping back on. This is also when my roommate was putting in her code at the location to turn it off. ADT called me and I told them it was my roommate but they did not call the police to tell them it was not a problem. I had to call them 4-5x as the calls would somehow drop despite full service. One inept male representative said ADT could not call the police as it wasn't their job - literally the whole point of the monitoring subscription. I had to call the police to tell them what they said and then call back to have another ADT rep call the police on my behalf, police instructions. As I was the owner, I had to drive back home and tell the police there was no issue. The system kept going off even then. I was up until 2am with a rep and then they called back the next morning to have no solution or next steps. DO NOT give your money to these people. They are wasting it on the Property Brothers ads and refusing to invest in basic training or technology. On top of that, the required Google Home products, none of the techs understand and you have to speak to overseas Google customer service when something doesn't work properly. If you move or need help with that process, Help Support is non-existence. As they do not train anyone, they route you over and over again to other departments so they don't have to deal with issue. All the while you have to keep explaining the problem instead of them documenting and sending to the next representative. I was on the phone once for over 2 hours. Service at ADT was never helpful - all on the phone and the reps never seemed to really know what the issue was. Also, the monthly price increased under ADT. Wait times on the phone were always long. As I write this review, I have been on the phone waiting for 27 minutes ( and counting) to cancel our ADT service. EMC Security came out this morning to switch our system to their transponder. Monthly fee is half of the ADT fee, will not increase supposedly, and no contract. Bye bye ADT. UPDATE: Took 45 minutes to cancel with ADT. ADT did not initially agree to prorate the last month's bill! I had to press for the proration. Hopefully, they won't charge me for the last two weeks of the billing period since we are not on their network anymore. That would be the fair business practice -- don't charge for service you are not providing. Why did I even have to ask for the proration? Hopefully, they will honor their word and give a refund as they finally promised. read more

Since I wrote the original review, the only offer from ADT was for me to make an appointment for a technician to come out to verify my alarm was working properly. Since they received the alarm and responded with an email, I think that question was already settled. No further contact since I declined that offer that probably would have cost me money. I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and they have so far refused to respond to that complaint. On February 10, I again had that same glass break sensor go off while I was working in the kitchen. It took me a few seconds to get to the pad and turn the alarm off. I got an automated message from ADT (they have a phone number now) announcing no help was coming since someone deactivated the alarm with the proper code. Good thing I was being held at gunpoint and forced to turn the alarm off. A follow-up email came to ensure I understood no one cared what happened as long as the alarm was turned off. When Ackerman called, a human asked me if I was OK and asked for my password. If I had been in trouble, a wrong password would have sent help. ADT does not give you that option because you can't respond to a computerized voice message. If you want a customer-oriented security company, I would never recommend this one. read more

I switched from Ring to ADT expecting the same level of service or better since it's been around longer. Their technology is rigid and isn't as friendly with other device. Every time you update your router, SSID or change your passwords, you have to manually reset EACH AN EVERY Device. You can't simply just go to the app and make changes. The doorbell requires you to take it apart to do that, and they charge you to send a technician to come and fix it. I've had it 6 days and give it a big thumbs down read more

I had an ADT technician come to my house to fix a malfunction. When he completed the job, he left but he had picked up my cell phone and took it with him. He called me on my land line about 30 minutes later and told me he had my phone. When I asked him to bring it back, he refused. I told him that my phone was a matter of life and death. He then asked me to meet him at a bowling alley that was 30 miles away. It was getting dark and so I called my son. My son notified the technician that he had to bring my phone back or lose his job. He finally brought my phone back but he had done something to it . I couldn't make calls or receive messages I took my phone to a repair shop and got it fixed. No one has apologized, This man is very tech savvy and I am afraid. I have a loaded gun and I am prepared to use it. read more
