When I called to book my appointment, the receptionist told me facials were $140 for nonmembers and $80 for members. I specifically asked how much the membership cost, and she told me it was FREE. However, when it came time to pay, I was informed that only signing up was free and that the actual membership costs $80 PER MONTH! That is a very important detail to leave out, especially when a customer specifically asks about the membership cost. I found this to be extremely misleading and deceptive. There's a big difference between a free membership and an $80 monthly commitment! For me, massages and facials are occasional luxuries, not something I prioritize enough to justify paying $80 every month. Had the pricing been explained honestly and clearly over the phone, I would have made a more informed decision. Shauna deserves 5 stars for her excellent service, but I'm giving Massage Envy 2 stars overall because of the misleading membership information. What made the experience even worse was that I was not allowed to leave until I paid the tip amount they requested. Tips are supposed to be voluntary, and I felt extremely uncomfortable and pressured. If a business has a tipping policy, it should be clearly communicated to customers before the service begins not after the fact. Unfortunately, this experience left me feeling more stressed than relaxed, and I won't be returning.
