About a year or so ago I was searching for a career coach to help me find "the work I was meant to…read moredo". Prior to working with Shawn, I thought that a career coach would assess my skills and then tell me what role/job I should do. Very quickly, I learned that that was not how the process worked and I couldn't be happier to have been wrong. Shawns' process helped me uncover what truly makes me happy, what kind of team I want to be a part of, what kind of organization I want to be a part of, and most importantly what job responsibilities would make me happy on a daily basis. For anyone looking to get a better understanding of their skills and job desires and use that knowledge to find a role that fits what you're looking for, then I'd recommend working with Shawn. While I found Shawn via Yelp, I also found a handful of other career coaches on the platform. I chose Shawn due to his business background and the fact that he was a true "Career Coach". I had a business background so it felt like a good fit and I was looking for a "career" specific coach versus a "Life/Career" coach. I worked with Shawn (In-person - I used to live in Seattle) for ~6 sessions. He broke down each session ahead of time so I knew what work I had to accomplish before our meetings and what to expect to talk about in our meetings. The work was challenging and thought provoking, but it really helped me discover my skills, shortcomings, non-negotiable and ultimately led me to the work that I wanted to do. He helped me define what I was looking for in a role, including: team structure, day-to-day responsibilities, environment, reporting structure, and more. He helped me gain confidence that even though I didn't have a background in design, I had inherent skills and aptitudes for the field. One year removed for working with Shawn, I landed a new role in a new career. Shawn helped me find a career path and happiness in my work. Working with Shawn really helped me understand my abilities and clearly define what I was looking for. Once I was able to define my ideal role, I was able to go out and get it. All in all Shawn was a major asset to helping me find the role I'm currently in. I would recommend him to anyone searching for a career coach. Just know, the work is hard but very rewarding!!!!

Their sessions were centered on strategy and learning how to organize and develop good study habits and while content teaching was a part of it, our son's growth into a confident student was the most important benefit. The last session with Jason is next week. Our son will be graduating from Ballard High School next Wednesday (with straight As) and in fall he is starting at UW Engineering - majoring in MechEng and Industrial Design. We were referred by a friend and have since discovered that other friendsalso love this gem of a learning center. We started with this tutoring company when my son was a Junior in High School. We wanted him to work on self-management and on specific writing and math skills. He was getting a little lazy and scattered. Most importantly, we wanted our son to set some goals for himself and work toward those goals. The support that he received from Next Steps was just what he needed. The staff are highly qualified and really gave our son what he needed, from so many disciplines. Week by week we benefitted from teachers who specialize in math/science, writing, executive functioning, college/career planning and selection, and college essay writing. The pre-college planning for SAT and college essay writing took a lot of time but it was a tremendous growth experience. My son became a student who persisted in finding resources to complete what was necessary at school managed his own assignments and work. His self reliance skills really improved, and his motivation and pride in his work grew. Now that my son is recently graduated from high school and will be entering the college of his choice, I look back and know for a fact that the expert, personalized, focused help that he received from Next Steps Tutoring played a significant role in his success. Beware of Maki Kido/MK College Bound I'd like to share my…read moreexperience with a college counselor I secured last year. The point of writing this review is to hopefully prevent/keep other families from this experience. May of 2018, at the end of my son's junior year, I hired a college counselor to support us with navigating the college application process & helping us find a good but financially accessible school that would be a good fit for my son (some kids know exactly where they want to go and what they want to do, mine didn't.) Six months & over $2k later she stopped answering texts, calls or emails & only sent a mail ending the contract and we were left completely empty-handed. We had to start from scratch in November of my son's senior year. After the shock wore off, I decided to take this woman to King County Small Claims Court and won the suit, as she had collected absolutely no data pertaining to my son; she simply presented blank worksheets and lists printed from the internet. Today, after a year and a half, I finally received the settlement. Again my motivation is that this never happens to another family during such a vulnerable time. The business is MK COLLEGE BOUND, LLC and the woman's name is Maki Kido based in Magnolia.

During the 2nd meeting, he just provided very general information of 10 colleges. Later I received a bill for 2 hours of preparation work and 1 hour meeting time. Because his contract says that he charges for research, I can't fight it. Any person can come up 10 colleges and tell you where they are located. This is a scam. Not worthy the $295 an hour he is charging, so don't waste your money.
