Located in a 1796 building in central Copenhagen is a Michelin star restaurant that won't break the bank if you make a lunch reservation. My friend and I made a same-week reservation for lunch in October 2021. Here's our experience: 1) Food: The lunch menu comes out on a small chalkboard as the items change from time to time. For a lighter lunch, we ordered three items- the green salad, fish and a vegetarian dumpling dish. Each dish was perfectly timed, well plated and delicious. The flavor in each was perfect, but the winner was the dumpling dish. 2) Service: Our server was attentive, knowledgeable and empathetic. 3) Space: It's beautifully designed from the two paintings on the walls to the style of the tables and chairs. Although clearly a classy place, it's still inviting. If you want Michelin star food while in Copenhagen, but don't want to spend hundreds of dollars, book a table for lunch here. Cute restaurant but not sure what it was that the server gave us less attentive service. We noticed the difference of him simply telling us the name of the dish when he served the food vs us hearing him explaining in depth the same or other dishes that were served to the tables next to us. He also didn't ask what kind of wines we liked or what we preferred but for other tables around us he did. We had kids with us but if the restaurant didn't want kids then they should have said so since I emailed beforehand asking about allergies and bringing kids. The food here falls somewhere between "meh" and "not so great" and the service we received was just bad. Taken together it's not a winning combination. The problems began with the wine. There was only one sauvignon blanc listed on the wine menu (which seemed fine) and we tried to order it twice but apparently it was not meant to be. During our first attempt, after some confusing back and forth with the waiter around acidity, I said "we'll take it." The waiter turned, mumbling "I have something for you" as he walked away. He returned with an altogether different wine which tasted nothing like sauvignon blanc. Not wanting to be difficult, we accepted his offering but we were a party of seven and most in our party did not like the wine at all. After finishing this first bottle we again tried to order the sauvignon blanc. This time we took a more direct approach and said simply "we'd like the sauvignon blanc" while pointing at the lone sauvignon blanc listed on the menu. (Just to be clear this waiter spoke perfect english) Again he brought a wine that was not sauvignon blanc. It's not clear why he opened it and started pouring without explaining that it wasn't what we ordered but, again, it tasted nothing like sauvignon blanc. Three people in our party tasted it and nobody liked it and this time we said so. At this point the waiter said they didn't have any sauvignon blanc and maybe we'd be better off telling him what kind of wine we like instead of ordering off the menu. He was clearly very angry. In the end he brought us a chardonnay but for the rest of the meal he made his distain for us clear. Because it was an omakasa menu we didn't know what we would be served. Many of the dishes were just one bite (a single crunchy ball the size of a very small cherry tomato, a tiny rolled up slice of courgette with shiso inside, a little square of seaweed folded around something mushy). We also got a bowl of pasty undercooked rice, some miso soup, and a cute little omelette in a small puddle of soy sauce. The best dish (and only substantial dish) was a bowl of potato noodles that had a nice crunch to them. There were also some small thin slices of pumpkin and a few little chunks of ceviche and what I think was monkfish liver. I thought this was just the opening round. Expecting more, I was pacing myself, but then came a pair of little plums with an eggy sort of jelly beside them and I realized dinner was done. Before we knew it they were hastily clearing our table and encouraging us to leave (by telling us "we are closed now"). I'm not sure why our dining experience was so different from that of other reviewers on here (except Sue W). Perhaps we got off to a bad start with the sauvignon blanc. Or maybe they just don't like Americans (I don't blame them, Americans are the worst), but I found the whole experience to be rather unpleasant. A true treasure - and while like any good neurotic Jew, I had made the 23H trek to Copenhagen w enough snacks to fill a small Whole Foods, once I laid eyes on the burrata with beach herbs, the steamed potatoes w pine shoot and roe, my hunger was awakened, I think not just because the Ambien had finally worn off. Nestled away from the "bustle" of Copenhagen, Admiralgade will welcome you as though you're entering the home of a close friend - the space is warm and intimate, the design darlingly Danish - and the owner, a lithe bearded viking, handsome and charming. We started with a hummus, the accompanying flat bread a tart, doughy treat, and from there dipped into green salad (fresh, bitter, bright) and stalks of a farm fresh white asparagus, sprinkled with almond and dabbed with a soured cream, truly spring in a bite. For mains, we tried bouillabaisse, squid, and pasta cacio e pepe - all of the flavors refined yet hearty - the rye bread with roe butter accompanying the stew was a gluteny masterpiece. We finished with a white chocolate and celeraic foam and the panna cotta - both classic and unexpected in different ways. Service is lovely and the chefs are often popping out to deliver the dishes and say hello. If you're quite hungry, doing two-ish starters, mains, and a dessert may leave you sated but not stuffed, which I suspect is the point - restrained luxury - v. Copenhagen chic. No idea what the prices mean in USD - plates are K110-175, with a three course menu available for K395. Worth every penny, I can see why S and D are semi-regulars. read more

I hesitate on posting this review because I have never posted a negative review of a restaurant before, especially given how times are difficult with covid and how tough the restaurant business is in general. However, my dining experience tonight was so spectacularly strange and bad that I was left speechless and felt compelled to share what had happened. First, it took them almost three hours to serve six rounds of courses - the tasting menu is nominally branded 10 courses but it's essentially a combination of medium-sized dishes and bite-sized dishes served simultaneously. I often waited for 20 minutes or more between each course, which definitely was not pleasant. The meal felt like it dragged on forever. Second, I had to ask the employees four times for my phone back. When I first sat down, I asked them to charge my phone, and an hour into the meal, I wanted my phone back to check some messages, but I had to ask two different employees four times for my phone. They weren't even that busy --there were moments when they were just standing around. It is clear they just didn't prioritize or care about my request. I initially thought this might be due to the language barrier since I only spoke English and not Danish, but "Can I have my phone back?" Is a pretty simple request, and they understood all my other remarks. Third, the dishes themselves were lackluster, with these dishes can be best described as interesting. The only good dish was the fish, which was perfectly cooked, and complemented by two delightful sauces. One particularly bad one was the mushroom and miso soup. It was extremely salty that I almost gagged when I took my first sip, but I tried my best to consume it all. When the server came, he eyed the not-empty bowl and asked me why I didn't finish it and if I didn't like it. I tried to be positive and said it's good but just a bit salty. Fourth, I didn't have a fork for the course that's cheesy potato noodles (think of cacio e pepe but with less cheese, no pepper, and julienned potatoes instead of pasta), a flavor combination that I didn't find appetizing. After my course arrived, I waited for 15 minutes to find someone to give me a fork. When the server finally came around, he asked me if everything is all right, and I asked him for a fork. He didn't even acknowledge the fact that I didn't have a fork to begin with, making it very hard to eat the noodles. In my opinion, the most basic thing servers should know is that the diner should have a fork, knife, and spoon. This, coupled with the phone situation, made me feel like they were gaslighting me by making me feel bad about my simple requests. Also, I noticed that they filled other tables' waters but I had to ask to get my water refilled. This is a super minor thing but by this time, I was already pretty annoyed. Fifth, toward the end of my meal, I began experiencing stomach pains, which I'm not sure are related to this meal in particular. Anyways, I went to use the restroom for no more than 10 minutes before I heard this aggressive knocking on the door. One of the servers was telling me how they were worried about me since I left my credit card with the check and disappeared. This is ridiculous because I was gone for less than 10 minutes, and there were plenty of times when they made me wait much longer for a fork or food. He went onto say I needed to hurry up because they needed the table for someone else. I think I apologized and said I'll be out soon, which looking back is crazy because why should I apologize for having stomach issues and then using the restroom? This was extremely stressful because when someone has bowel problems, it's outside of their control how long they stay on the toilet for. Also, if they urgently needed my table, why didn't they deliver the courses in a more timely manner? They should blame their own pacing rather than the less than 10 minutes I spent in the bathroom. Part of me wonders if I was treated this way because I was a solo diner and only ordered one glass of wine whereas the other tables were couples or groups of people that ordered at least a bottle of wine. But shouldn't the quality of the service not be contingent on the quantity of alcohol one orders? Overall, the service was polite but tinged with passive aggressiveness, with the employees' comments making me feel bratty for my requests of having a fork to eat my noodles and getting my phone back after four attempts, along with using the restroom and not finishing a dish. The food was mediocre as well. The entire experience was quite uncomfortable and truly bizarre. I still can't really wrap my head about what had happened. read more

We had lunch here on a quiet Saturday, welcoming staff, the food was sharp and stand out. Influenced by Scandi and Japanese taste/inclinations. This place is a gem. The chef is creative and uses the best of fresh ingredients. I especially loved the tartare and venison but the dish with trout roe was also inspired. Mostly it's the staff. The owner/maitre d'/sommelier was a first class chap. The chef was extremely nice. But oh the waitress: what an absolute doll. She made it a wonderful experience and a great meal. Splurge on the wine as they have a great selection and it mattered. read more

We had eaten lunch at Ved Stranden (lovely wine bar right on the water), and when we went back for dinner (we liked it that much!) their kitchen was closed but they walked us around the corner to Admiralsgade 26, their sister restaurant. Such a comfortable and wonderful restaurant. Feels like you could linger all evening with ease - and you'll want to! We had the hummus and the cheese as appetizers. Their rye bread is out of this world - it features in my dreams now - and the cheeses are perfect. Some of the best I have had! My husband enjoyed a wonderful fish both nights we went (we loved it so much we went back twice!), and I really enjoyed their boullabaisse. Their wine list is also perfect, and each one we tried excellent. We also ate at Restaurant 108 while we were in town, and preferred it here by far. Great spot, service and food. read more
