No task is too big for them and they will do it quicker than any other tailors in town. It is also worth mentioning how cheap they are in comparison to there failing rivals. If you have some old clothes that you're considering chucking soon, think twice. Those boyfriend jeans could soon be the best skinny jeans you own. Hey, they spend all week put away in office-friendly attire, at the weekends the girls like to have their time in the spotlight. Being about as skilled with a needle and thread as I am with neurosurgery (ie- not at all; I did Literature so am not qualified to lobotomise you or anyone else, so don't ask!) I pretty much resigned Weird Dress to the back of the wardrobe. Which was a shame. Its graphic monotone Biba print called out to me every time I opened the door, and I had to remind it "no, Weird Dress, your sleeves are mad and your neckline too matronly!" Which I think upset it somewhat. It lingered there for months, until the boyf (very unfortunately) had occasion to wear a suit; a funeral. He didn't actually own a suit, so went to buy one. But the suit shop didn't have trousers long enough, so they knocked £10 off the suit and sent us to Stitches, where those of the male persuasion can have a pair of suit trews let down and finished for £10, and an hour's wait. Amazing. A couple of months later, Tea Snob Friend announced her 1960s birthday dinner party. Oooh, I thought, Oooh! So, I sent Weird Dress to be altered. One day later, and £14 lighter, I was wearing a cutesy cap-sleeved, boat-necked, mini-hemmed extraordinary dress. The clever folk at Stitches had even saved the contrast banding on the hem, and re-sewn it onto the new hem. That's what I call seamstressery (even though that's not a word...) This place is fantabulous. Whether it's a simple trou-down, or multiple alterations to your very own Weird Dress, the Stitches team will sort it out in double-quick time, and for mere pennies. I had phones unlocked, relocked and lost the most random wires for devices, when I show up at easy tel they'll have something to sort it out, for a fiver. For those without internet (blasphemous) then head there you can flick through reviews on yelp for hours for 50p.

A treasure trove of second hand & vintage items!…read more This is a charity shop which funds the work of the Mustard Tree. They support vulnerable people across Greater Manchester in a variety of ways. This shop is a couple of minutes walk down Oldham Road, just out of the end of the Northern Quarter. They have a huge range of second hand items including furniture, white goods (but not cookers), clothing, bric a brac, electricals and entertainment items like vinyl. Everything is very reasonably priced as you would expect and they get some amazing vintage items in. They offer delivery for either £5 or £10 depending on the distance which is much cheaper than most other local charities. They also accept donations of items and can collect furniture for free on their vans. Call their office to book in a collection of you want to donate or you drop things like clothing off at their site. Check the website for opening times. It's well worth the extra small walk out of the main city centre to have a rummage in this hidden gem!

It reminded me of my days back in Uni and more so because I had to go back to the university area to get all these things for cheap. I had to print 100 copies of color handouts with two hand outs in each page. My friend from University suggested me to go to Compudos right next to pub zoo and near MMU students union. Thank god it is March and the students don't have to get their ultra thick dissertations printed, because this is when printing places become busier than Obama (No kidding). I had a pretty smooth entry into the shop because there was no queue of any kind and the shop owner was very friendly and welcoming. I could not find my pen drive so he let me use his computer to open my email and find the document (bless him). He then printed out the copies for me and also help me cut the papers (I had two handouts in one sheet). That was such a big help because I was dreading to do that by myself. He also guided me as to where I could find a massive cardboard and paint for cheap. The printing cost me only 23 pounds (100 copies of color print). Verdict: Good service and reasonable pricing! I am definitely going back whenever I have any printing work!

My friends have used Compudos to repair their computers in the past and report them to be quick and reasonably priced - but then any price is reasonable when it comes to recovering your un-backed up research project. My contact with the business came when I needed to get my dissertation bound on the day it was due to be handed in. The queues at the highly recommended U-Print (located on The University of Manchester's north campus) were massive and I was verging on full-blown panic attack by the time I reached Compudos. Within five minutes they had spiral bound both copies of my dissertation at a charge of only £7 (metal binding is available for £8.50 a copy and hardback for £15, with a £5 surcharge for a one hour rush service.) I handed it in with half an hour to spare. And that's how Compudos saved my degree, true story.

There are plenty of washers and dryers both small and large and the prices per machine are pretty reasonable. The staff are friendly and always helpful when neccessary. Avoid fridays though as it seems to be wash day and you will find yourself waiting around for machines!!
