Veggie and Meat Combo
Geronimo R.

Admas is exactly what you want in a neighborhood Ethiopian spot. Unpretentious mom and pop vibes with Ethiopian music videos playing on the big screen behind the register and some nice art on the walls. We rolled 17 deep for a friend's birthday and the staff handled it like pros. We went with the combination platters, and these things are massive. Beef, chicken, lamb, kale, salad, beans, lentils, all the classics spread out over a mountain of injera. Everything was well-spiced and balanced, though I wouldn't have minded a touch more salt here and there. But honestly, that's me being picky. The real star here is the injera. Perfectly tart, super spongy, and we kept asking for more because we couldn't get enough. They were happy to keep it coming, which is exactly how Ethiopian dining should be. Eating with your hands, tearing off pieces of that tangy bread to scoop up the stews and veggies, it's as authentic as it gets. Service was on point. They kept our waters filled, checked in regularly, and helped us navigate the menu without being pushy. The pacing was great even with our huge group. Pro tip: take leftovers. I ate mine the next day for dinner and it was just as delicious, maybe even better after everything had time to marry together overnight. If you're craving Ethiopian food in Oakland, Admas delivers. Solid food, great service, and that comfortable neighborhood feel that makes you want to come back.

First time coming here. There were only two tables occupied when we got here so maybe the time was a bit late for dinner on a Sunday. The server was nice and patient with our ordering, thank you. the food was healthy and yummy, but my husband felt the chicken stew wasn't worth the price (only one chicken drumstick and one hard boiled egg in the stew.) ambiance was cool , there was cool picture decors with beautiful women in traditional headdresses. We had one of the dining rooms all to ourselves so it was nice and quiet since we had my toddler with us. My husband felt the food could've been spicy since he has tasted spicy Ethiopian food elsewhere. Our server gave us spicy sauces/ powders but it was not spicy enough for him (he's South Indian.)

I came here with my friends and we all shared a meat combo which includes injera and a variety of meats all which were delicious! It was enough food for all of us and we even had leftovers. It was great for the price of $38 which we split 3 ways. I had never had Ethiopian food before so I was very excited to try and I was very pleased! I'm excited to say that I've tried it now and loved it! As for parking, we were lucky to find a spot on the street right in front of the restaurant. The inside of the place was clean, aesthetic and had a nice ambiance. I highly recommend if you're looking to try a new cuisine or need a new place to try.

Friendly staff. Neat space. Their breakfast menu is great. A huge fan of the fata and fūl. They also have coffee served in a Jebena.

Gored gored, disappointing chicken doro wot, vegetable combo, & lamb tibs

We ordered takeout and were extremely disappointed in the $20 chicken doro wot, which only came with a measly drumstick and hard-boiled egg. The gored gored was delicious and spicy but very gristly, and the lamb tibs and vegetable combo were not tasty enough to redeem the meal. Additionally, the plastic lids were not sealed completely and sauce leaked out onto & through the takeout bag. Needless to say, we will not be coming back.

Admas is the Ethiopian-Eritrean spot we've been wanting and craving. I definitely feel like Admas is going to be a lovely addition to our greater Grand Lake neighborhood. I ordered the veggie platter as one does for takeout. I wish they didn't use styrofoam for packaging, but it did keep everything warm. AND y'all, the portions are fab, the veggie dishes are DIVINE and colorful, and injera so fluffy and delish. They also gave a complimentary vinagrette salad and one dry AF samosa. The samosa didn't hit for me, but I chowed down that salad so fast. Complimentary sides are something from pre-COVID times that I am so glad Admas is bringing back. My fave part was the injera bread and their stews: red lentil side (misir wat) took my breath AWAY, and their yellow split pea side was divine (kik alicha). I never had that bright pink/magenta beet side and I had to google it. The key sir alicha beet AND potato dish was SO unique, I could taste the ginger and ya girl was pleasantly intrigued. Collard greens was yummy as well. I loved ALL of their dishes in the veggie platter, and will def be coming back for that specific item. I loved that there were a few two-person parties inside the store. Seems like a nice, intimate spot for date night...it is on the quieter side though. But I like that there's the main area and a side room if you're looking for more privacy. It has the feel of stepping into a family friend's home. No outdoor seating though and limited street parking. Hospitable folks and small biz!

Service was very nice and the food is very good. The location is convenient and easy to find parking. Great for a group.

My partner and I have been wanting to stop by this spot since it's opened in the neighborhood. We ordered the veggie and meat combo where you could pick and choose. We got some recommendations from the owner, and ordered the yebeg tibs, doro tibs, yellow lentils, collard greens, and a spicy beef that was off-menu (and really good!). He was kind enough to let us try the red lentils too (which I really liked!). It could have probably fed 3 people unless you're all starving. I was very full and we didn't finish. It's a humble spot with delicious and affordable Ethiopian food and good place for a dinner out when you don't feel like cooking!

I have been to Enssaro when it was along the lake several times and was glad to see a lively restaurant take over the old sushi boat place. The food was good, especially the meatballs. I ordered an NA cocktail and it was excellent. We sat at the bar and unfortunately, the service at the was not only terrible, it was openly hostile. They never took our food order, the busboy took our food order because the waiter saw us waiting for more than 20 minutes. When they finally took our drink order they didn't even look at us. We were going to order another drink, but they stood at the far corner looking away from us with their arms crossed. We wondered if we did something wrong. It almost seemed like they were avoiding our gaze on purpose. The new bartender who was learning the ropes looked at us sheepishly and apologetically, but didn't take our order. We closed out as soon as we could and left. It's too bad because the ambiance in the rest of the restaurant seemed fun.

A delicious home-cooked Ethiopian feast for two!…read more Came by on a Sunday night and it was pretty quiet. We were the only people dining in, which was honestly such a vibe. We ordered a meat and veggie combo platter for 2 + a serving of Bozena Shiro (chickpea flour simmered with beef), and an order of Selit (Sesame Seed Smoothie) to drink. It was my first time having Bozena Shiro and Selit! The Selit came out first while we were waiting for our combo platter to come out. They asked what sugar level I prefer which was nice. I went with light sugar and it was perfect! It reminded me a lot of a sesame latte, but they said there was no milk in it so I believe it was just water blended with sugar and sesame seeds. It was delicious and had a naturally savory/toasty aspect to it as well. The platter came out and wow it looked fantastic. They gave a generous amount of injera with it as well. At other locations, I always find myself ordering extra injera, but instead we had a few bites leftover! Everything was delicious, the Kik Alicha (golden split peas) are always my favorite and they definitely delivered here as well! I really need to start ordering Ethiopian food a la carte, because the Bozena Shiro was fantastic. I would've never known about it if we didn't add it to our platter! Savory, tender meat, thick consistency on the sauce/stew. The injera here is a bit too dense for my persona liking. I prefer the fluffier style injera, but the flavor was still spot on!

So, getting introduced to Fuol at Desta was a pleasant experience. The favas were seasoned with warming spices that danced on my palate. The breakfast stew paired nicely with our veggie sampler. All my standards, red mush (Misir Wot), yellow mush (Kik Alicha), greens (Gomen), potatoes mixed with carrots and cabbage (Atakilt Wot), were there with the nice addition of Azifa. That's green lentils cooked in jalapeño, onion, garlic, and lemon to you. The sambusas are huge and also nicely spiced. The Injera was made with tef. So delicious! My friend tried the Telba, a cold, crushed flaxseed drink. It tasted like cream of wheat to her. It kind of tasted like a banana to me. Service was great to start, then, in typical fashion, was nonexistent when we were ready to pay. Oh well. We weren't in real hurry, so no harm no foul. It was so nice to know we could order everything on the menu. They are vegetarian/vegan. The space itself is small and bright, with a couple of tables outside and about five or so inside. Street parking wasn't too hard, but it is definitely a residential area. All in all, it was a lovely meal. Recommended.

Nobody explained the significance of anything that was placed on our table. I was...confused and amused. Now, the great stuff: the food was probably the best Ethiopian food I have ever had. We ordered chicken tibs, shiro wat, and sambusas. All were absolutely delicious! I appreciate that all the food was served piping hot (I have been served cold lentils and vegetables often at Ethiopian restaurants and it isn't as appetizing). The sambusa in particular stood out - piping hot, flavorful lentils inside, tasty dipping sauces. The injera was generously portioned and deliciously fermented.
