Dr. Adkins pushed me to take a statin without talking much at all about side effects. I asked about handling things with diet and exercise. He discouraged me. He told me that wouldn't prevent deposits from dislodging and causing problems (true enough). Within three months of taking the medication, I had a severe Achilles tendon injury and developed acute pain in both of my shoulders and elbows. I've never had these issues before. Adkins mentioned nothing about these very common side-effects. In addition, when I talked about a separate, "sensitive" issue, his tone changed, and I felt very uncomfortable--judged might be a better term. Furthermore, although I had told the receptionist about several issues I was having when I made my appointment, Adkins cut me off after only 15 min., and I was not able to discuss my other health issues. I was asked to make another appointment. The only available slot was in three months and would be another co--pay and insurance billing. Had I been given better information, I would have put off taking a statin until I was older and less active. I also have questions about why some of my issues were not billed as "preventative" when they clearly were. Needless to say, I have changed doctors. I do not recommend Dr. Adkins. I'm switching to direct primary care. PS. I don't blame Dr. Adkins fully for all of this. I also blame a failing health care systemin which he works. read more

The best doctor I've ever had, hands down. He is really great at explaining terms, medication, conditions, etc. to you so that you understand them. You never feel like you are wasting his time--he genuinely cares about his patients and is very thorough. The only downside is that getting appointments with him can be tricky at times. Fortunately, Pullman Family Medical (where I see him at) as an online messaging system so if I have a quick question or concern, he can get back to me that way. He is quick at responding to these messages and if it is something that requires an official visit, he will kindly ask you to come in to discuss it further. read more

I had a doctor appointment at Pullman Family Medicine with Dr. Ben Adkins on 1/31/19. All vitals were taken and I was asked to sit in a room and wait for Dr. Adkins. Several minutes later Dr. Adkins entered the room, pulling a portable rolling computer station along with him. I didn't think anything was odd, but on top of the computer station was a laptop. It looked like a video chat window was perhaps open, but I didn't think anything of it. Dr. Adkins positioned the laptop on the rolling computer station, so that the laptop screen was facing me, and in hindsight, I believe he was ensuring I was in the frame of the web or video cam of the laptop. Dr. Adkins left the laptop positioned that way near the door, and sat down at another desktop computer station on the other side of the room. We conducted the appointment as normal, discussing various medical issues I was dealing with at the time. Towards the end of the appointment, I glance back at the laptop, which is to the right and slight rear of where I am facing/sitting on the exam table. I notice that the application open is indeed some sort of video chat application. I immediately am taken aback, because I realize there is someone connected on a live video chat, monitoring our appointment, seeing and listening to everything. I'm under the impression I'm in a private appointment with my physician. I'm completely shocked as the realization sets in that it's not a private appointment and there is someone else seeing and hearing everything. I ask Dr. Adkins, "Is that a live video chat open now?". He says, "Yes, that's our Stenographer, she's taking notes of our appointment." I'm a little incredulous at hearing this, feeling like my privacy was violated, as I wasn't informed that this was occurring. At this point, I tell the Dr. to have a nice day and leave, while informing him that this type of activity is unprofessional. From Dr. Adkins' reaction this isn't an isolated instance. It seems to be their policy at this facility to allow such invasions of privacy. After all this, I still had numerous issues getting some basic prescriptions filled. Dr. Adkins couldn't even print out basic information for the medications I was being prescribed. That took me nearly two weeks and half a dozen phone calls to remedy. Several of my issues that I discussed with Dr. Adkins were treated with the prognosis of "this is something you just have to live with." He didn't even evaluate me to come to this conclusion which is the odd thing. For example, in my foot, I described a symptom I was experiencing and he didn't even examine my foot. I'm describing the symptoms and he's just coming up with some prognosis without evaluating the issue. Just leaves me shaking my head. Lastly, during my first visit some months ago, (this was my second and probably last visit) Dr. Adkins suggested and offered to refer me for an X-Ray for one particular issue. During my second appointment, though nothing had changed, he stated he was "uncomfortable" referring me for an X-Ray. Ironically, despite that statement, he still referred me, which doesn't provide me with much confidence in prognosis. Again, as with my medications, he couldn't or wouldn't print me out any referral information (e.g. Doctor Name, Location, etc). This is the second physician I've tried in Pullman, the first was Dr. Robert Spady with Total Health Physician Group, and he and his team were even worse if that's possible. Unfortunately, I've been disappointed with the quality and professionalism of healthcare in Pullman. Based on our conversations with individuals and families that have lived here for any decent amount of time, most people seem to reluctantly find physicians in Spokane or even Seattle/Portland, which is really sad. read more

Dr. Adkins is amazing. When we found out I was pregnant I scheduled an appointment and asked for a female doctor. They must have misheard me because when I got there Dr. BEN Adkins walked in. Turned out to be the best mistake ever. He is very knowledgeable but not quick to give you a prescription for everything the way some doctors do. Very down to earth, common sense kind of doctor and respectful of your wishes. Examples: he knew I wanted to attempt delivering my baby without the use of drugs so he never pushed those options even when he could see I was in pain. He was respectful of my desire to use him AND a doula during delivery. I was having a hard time breast feeding so instead of directing me to use formula he offered other resources to try first. Excellent doctor for first-time moms who are nervous. Besides delivering my baby, and second baby, and doing my husband's vasectomy, he was the PCP for our entire family. 5 stars for every experience we had with him. 10 stars. 100 stars! We have since moved out of the area and have yet to find a doctor as caring, knowledgeable, and not-pushy as him. Plus he's in a barbershop quartet that will come sing to you on Valentine's Day. Dr. Adkins is the best doctor our family has ever had. He was my OB and kids' doctor, delivering our second son via scheduled c-section. He is highly skilled, professional, personable, and compassionate. I highly recommend Adkins to young and old alike. I especially appreciated his commitment to preventative medicine. We have since left Pullman and haven't found anyone who compares yet. read more

Dr. Benjamin Adkins became my OB physician after my regular OB physician left for a vacation 1 week before my due date. Dr. Adkins was the physician on call the morning I came in for delivery. On July 18 2005 he met me in the Birth center. When I arrived, he read through ALL of my birth plan, he followed all my requests completely and answered any and all questions I had regarding my birth. When nurses at the hospital were not following my birth plan he stepped in and told them to please do what the patient had requested! My baby girl ended up being a 10lb baby who had shoulder dystocia and although the nurses in the birthplace looked concerned and worried about the situation, Dr. Adkins was calm and professional. He delivered my daughter naturally, no emergency c-section necessary. He knew exactly what maneuver he needed to perform to deliver her without injury to either of us. When I decided to get pregnant with my 3rd child I knew I wanted Dr. Adkins to deliver him as well. I also decided at that time that I wanted him to be my personal physician also not just my OB doctor. Dr. Adkins has always been very friendly, answers all my questions thoroughly, doesn't try to push me out the door and was very prompt at returning emails to me. He has a very friendly personality and he is very knowledgeable in all aspects of health care. I am very sad to learn that Dr. Adkins will be leaving Pullman family medicine. I have been very happy with him as my personal physician and he will be very hard to replace. I wish him and his family all the best. Oregon will be gaining an outstanding Physician but Pullman will be losing an incredible one! Wishing you and your family all the best Ben you will be missed!! read more

Dr. Adkins is a wonderful doctor! He is great with people, very respectful and a good listener. He is also very smart. He's got statistics for nearly everything. He delivered both my girls and was our family doctor. Dr. Adkins is great about having patients email him with questions or concerns and responds, almost always, within 24 hours. This saved us a lot of time and co-pays as first time parents who were nervous about everything. read more

If you have great insurance and are young and/or pregnant, he is apparently a great guy. If you are an older women and/or have chronic pain--even if you have great insurance, do not go to this guy or he will insult you to the point that you will refuse to see him. Dr. Adkins has been my doctor for the past 6 years and I could not ask for a better physician. I can e-mail him anytime I have a question and he is always quick to respond. He is knowledgeable about conditions and treatment options and is always thorough in his explanations of procedures and risks etc. He is not arrogant or condescending and I feel like he genuinely cares about me as a patient. He listens to and addresses my concerns in an exquisite manner with an understanding that certain issues, however trivial they may seem, are important to me. He seems to really enjoy what he does and he always greets me with a smile. I have never had such a wonderful doctor. read more

Has been the best doctor I've had. He is helping me with my 5th pregnancy and has been the best ob doctor Out of all of them, (different doc for each pregnancy)I haven't delivered yet, so I can't vouch for that part yet, but he is very good at telling you all the options and percentages and explaining different ways to look at the situation when I'm trying to make a decision. He's very supportive of whatever decisions I make too. I also feel he really wants to do what's best and right and not just what the current medical trend is. He uses common sense, and isn't afraid to express the limitation of medical science. I feel he does the research, and stays educated with the current research. He seems to not hesitate in taking necessary action too, even if he's busy. I love that he's willing to communicate through email. I hate to keep the other patients waiting, but at the same time, want to ask a lot and email seems a good way to do it. read more
