Dr. Ader recommended a surgery on my 14 year old beloved shitzu and said with certainty she was spry and she'd be fine to remove mammory lumps . I never saw my dog again . she never told me my dog would be staying overnight with no overnight staff . She never called to say how her surgery went I only was able to talk to a staff person . The next morning I called to pick of my dog Nina and Dr Ader said your dog is not going anywhere she can't even stand up . I said please I need to come and see my dog my child . Dr Ader said No your dog does not need visitors. I called 4 more times in which each time I was put on hold for 10 to 15 minutes and each time the update was we don't know what's happening, your dog is shaking , tremoring and having trouble breathing . I asked does she need an emergency vet ???? Dr Ader said no we will monitor her . On my 4th call again I was put on hold for 10 minutes and Dr Ader said sorry your dog has passed . I drove to animal care services and picked up my beloved Nina in a body bag it was standing room only and people outside the door with their animals . How could have Dr Ader cared for my dog with overbooked appointments ? She didn't . She recommended a surgery without details and never let me be there for my dogs last breath, all for veterinary greed . My dog tremored and shook , lost body temperature for over 4 hours while Dr. Ader took over booked appointments. She never called but yet she became defensive towards me and told me she had not lost a dog in 20 years . I guess to her the loss of my dog was justified. This woman should never ever be allowed to perform surgeries, she had Zero compassion and killed my dog who suffered in pain overnight and then the next day while Dr Ader was too busy with overbooked appointments. My dog did not deserve this ! She had no health issues . please do not use this vet ! The establishment is filthy and although her prices may be cheaper she is out for greed and money ! Zero compassion . Ignored every email and phone call when I asked for details to get closure . She killed My animal and let her suffer in the back room alone . read more

This vet loves animals with a passion, and will go above and beyond for them. I've been going to her for at least 25 years( but I think more), and she's never failed us! Her office is not state of the art, but her knowledge of animals is definitely superior. I had a cat with kidney issues back in 1996, and we ended up having to give her IV fluids at home pretty much daily. If we ever had problems doing it, she'd come to our house (once in Providence, once in Portsmouth!) and administer the fluids herself! What other vet would do that? I don't know if she still would do house calls, but I'm sure if she could she would! We love her! read more

Is Dr. Ader's clinic small? Yes. Does Dr. Ader's clinic have all the latest diagnostic equipment and technology? No. Nevertheless, I've been bringing my cats and bunny to Dr. Ader for a decade. Vet prices have skyrocketed over the past 20 years. If you can afford to take your pets to vet clinics that are outfitted with much of the same equipment as human medical clinics, please do. But many pet owners, such as myself, can't afford to spend $500.00+ just to get a diagnosis. For me, and many pet owners like me, there's Dr. Ader. Dr. Ader is an "old time" vet. She makes diagnoses based on her education and decades of experience. Does this mean she *may* misdiagnose an animal's ailment? It never happened with me and my pets, but it probably has with others. I suspect it's a rare occurrence. If you can't afford to take your sick pet to a clinic that has all the bells and whistles, which is better for your pet? Not getting them vet care at all (which may lead to them suffering and dying), or taking them to Dr. Ader - which in most cases will lead to an accurate diagnosis and treatment (with a small chance of misdiagnosis due to lack of the technology needed to run the tests whose results would guarantee the diagnosis is accurate)? I know what choice I've made for the past 10+ years - and will continue to make in the future, as long as Dr. Ader continues to practice. read more

Dr Ader's office may not be state of the art but her diagnostic ability and knowledge is far superior of any vet I have been to. She is kind caring and intuitive. Any time I took my cat to an er when she was closed I had a huge bill and no solution. Follow up with dr Ader and she found the issue. That happened twice. I am grateful to her and her staff. love Dr. Ader! i happened upon her b/c my iguana was sick, and after a bad experience with my dogs vet i decided to bring my dogs to her as well. she is very affordable and she really cares about the animals. she also will not give un-needed meds or shots. she has even helped me out with my foster dogs if i bring them to her. her and her staff know my dogs, and me! the table is quite high for a large dog, but the staff is always willing to help lift or you can just let them do it. they really need to update some of the technical aspects of the office such as obtaining a copy machine and a fax machine, and parking is really bad (but there is an empty lot across the road 30 feet away)... but other then those few downsides this is a GREAT vet. $35 - $37 for a large dog routine exam, not including shots or and meds. read more

Took my dog here to get her annual exam. On the plus side the people were nice and the price was cheap. However it's in a dilapidated house that's behind a Burger King which makes it hard to find. The parking was dreadful (although there's a lot of empty parking across the street). I think the biggest thing about this place is the filth and after reading other reviews it looks like this has been an ongoing thing. When you walk up to the place there's a lot of crap on the front porch so you don't know where the entrance is. When you walk in the first thing you see is lots of papers stacked everywhere, soda cans and Fritos next to clean needles. Their scale doubles as their exam table. The place is filthy, unorganized, and smelly. I went for the cheap price but won't ever be back. read more

I have to disagree with the other reviewers - I've been to quite a few vets and veterinary offices in my life, and found Dr. Ader's to be filthy and poorly run. I brought 2 cats to her and she didn't seem to have any idea what was wrong with them, didn't recommend any diagnostic options, and seemed to be completely perplexed. I do think her heart is in the right place, and that she fills a need - she is less expensive, and will treat a sick animal without proof of vaccination (or at least she used to). read more

I have taken our dogs to Dr. Ader for many years. She loves animals but it is time for her to retire. The office is in poor shape and on my last visit, the smell of urine was unbearable. I had not been in the office for two years because it was closed for some time and I had gotten my dogs shots at a shot clinic at PetCo. We were there for a check on a hot spot, I wouldn't have let her get any shots or procedures given the state of the office. It has never been a model for how to run a practice but it is beyond safe. read more

I had taken my dog to Dr. Ader because he wasn't acting normal (sad and lethargic) and she told me that he had a stone in his bladder after a series of tests and us insisting that something was wrong. She had us bringing him back and forth and giving us all kinds of medicine and special food to try and dissolve them. Every time we took our dog to her she would either lose the paperwork, think he was a she..it was just a mess. Finally we decided that we would go to a different vet after his urine sample was spilt all over his paperwork and she said it wasn't her fault rather than just apologizing. I believe that she means well and is a good person inside but unfortunately not a good reliable vet. Her office was not clean and she never had the proper tools available to check the dogs. I just want to be honest for pet owners who are looking for the right vet. I hope this helps. read more

If it was possible to give less than one star, I would. I made an appointment for my Dog after being recommended by a friend. We pulled up at what looked like a hoarder's run down house and I immediately had a bad feeling. I saw 2 small cages outside, no grass and a small parking lot. You couldn't see through the windows as there was junk everywhere. I told my husband to turn around and go home but he convinced me to go in saying it couldn't be that bad. We went up the steps to the door and it was worse. Someone had to move stuff around and shuffle before we could even open the door. We got in a tiny wait room with an overpiled desk, filthy wood floors, and about 4 chairs. There were 3 other dogs waiting in this area. We couldn't tell who worked there so we just sat down. Finally a large disheveled looking woman wearing dirty sweats asked who we were. I explained we had an appointment and it was our first time there. I then looked to my left and saw a dog bring examined in a small room with no door and a whole wall lines with bird cages (no more than 8 feet away from where we were sitting). I have never walked out of anywhere before but there was no way I could trust these people with my dog's care. The entire place was filthy, overcrowded, and completely unprofessional. I don't know how anyone could run any type if business like this, especially one where they were giving medical advice. I don't know how anyone could let their animals go there. I not only felt that it was dirty and unsanitary but worried about catching something. read more

Two yeas ago, I brought my dog to Dr. Ader, at Animal Care Services. My first impression was not good: I had to ask her to clean her "exam table" before placing my pet on it; she kept files on the exam table/scale when weighing my pet; she stabbed her finger extracting blood from my dog's leg, and the building is a dilapidated, unsanitary mess, inside and out. But what clenched it for me was when a friend brought her dog there because the dog's ear tips were black, and when the dog scratched them, pieces would come off. Dr. Ader did not know what to diagnose, ran a blood test and prescribed meds that were useless, presumably for scabies and/or skin allergy. Turns out the dog was suffering from advanced lymphoma, which the ASPCA discovered immediately, with no doubt. The poor dog had to be euthanized then and there. My friend was grief stricken and very unhappy with the lack of diagnostic skill at Dr. Ader's business. Oh--and she "listened" to my dog's heartbeat, amidst squawking parrots, telling me that sometimes, as my breed of canine ages, they are prone to heart problems. This made me nervous enough to not want to trust my dear dog's care to her. Took my pet to N. Kingstown Animal Hospital, where they detected a heart murmur and put her on an inexpensive med for it. I had an echocardiogram done, also. It also turned out that the mysterious external lumps she had were fatty cysts, which Dr. Ader said would have to be sampled when my pet was anesthesized. My new vet (N.K.A.H.), aspirated them and found they were fatty deposits. They could've sent it for a cytology report, but were honest. I will stay with N.K.A.H., where it is clean and the vets and vet techs are competent and caring! read more

I've taken various much-loved pets to Dr. Ader over many years. Her office is small, but her veterinary knowledge is second to none. She knows her stuff. She saved one of my dogs by an immediate "temporary diagnosis"; she was 99% sure she knew what it was (HGE) and that it was lethal if not treated immediately, if we'd waited for the results to come back from the lab before starting treatment it would have been too late. Apparently HGE can be mistaken for another issue that is not life threatening so immediate action is the difference between life and death. She saved my dog's life. Dr Ader has operated on various animals at least 5 times for a variety of different problems. Each time it is obvious that they have been very well cared for. The stitches are clean and neat, the wounds are well tended and the animals are comfortable. I have also had the sad experience of having to have a pet put to sleep. She made sure we had privacy and was gentle and experienced with both myself and my beloved pet. Honestly, that's what I want from a vet. Someone with tremendous knowledge, not someone who is going to try to sell every procedure that they think they can get away with to support a large practice. This place is small, dirty, smelly and gross! I took my dog there for vaccinations and my dog had a bad reaction to the distemper shot she received! She almost died, couldn't walk, eat, move or lower her head without crying out in pain! This lasted over a week by the way! I called the next day and the office was closed so I took her somewhere else and they were able to help her. When I finally got in touch with Dr. Ader's office, they said that was a normal reaction!!! My dog was 15 at the time of her vaccination and they almost killed her and didn't care at all!! I also paid for a heartworm blood test ( they did draw her blood ) and when I called for the results they told me they ran the wrong test and I would have to bring her back for a heartworm test (which I didn't do there). They DID find out her kidneys were beginning to fail so I took her to a new vet, who is fantastic! I have asked for the bloodwork results from Dr. Ader in person, on the phone, through email and even had the new vet call and request the results, all in vain. They absolutely refuse to send the results to the new vet so we can see the rate of deterioration in her kidneys!!! This is a shoddy place and should be closed immediately!!!! read more

If I could give 0 stars, I would! Let's begin by me saying, I wouldn't trust my stool sample being tested here!! Dr. Ader's office is filthy, it should be condemned. She is rough. We brought our 20, yes 20 year old INDOOR cat here during his last year of life. We had no prior vet care, he was the king. She was so rough with him, despite us telling her to be careful etc. He scratched and bit with how he was handled, and she demanded that he stay and be quarantined. I had to use the bathroom, there were bloody needles on the ledge of the sink and feces on the floor. Needless to say, we took our boy home, I walked out, and as we were walking out she said "Well if he dies within 2 days, you need to return him so we can dissect his head since he scratched and bit staff". Who says that?! Who disrespects a person and their beloved pet during such a hard time? To boot---she is a filthy scum bag. Her and her staff, as well as the house is like a damn hoarder's episode! I felt so skeevats when I left. I don't know how she continues to be licensed and the Dept of Health has not been involved...or maybe they have? Give it up, Ader! You suck! read more

I've noticed that some people complain about the parking conditions, small waiting area, no computer or fax machine, cluttered office, etc. I'm more concerned about the quality care that my pets get, & they get it from Dr. Ader. You can have the most up to date, modern facility with a big parking lot & waiting room but that doesn't amount to a hill of beans if the people treating your pets aren't the best. My heart can't agree more with the first review. The care is outstanding and Dr.Ader is as intuitive with animals as I have ever seen in 35 years of multi pet ownership. Some important considerations are for owners of large pets. Thet lack simple mechanical device to raise a pet to workable level. An uncomfortable lift needs to be done and the staff usually isn't the most physically capable. This is not a reflection of their caring, just an honest observation and important to an animals comfort. Also the ability to contact them for food and refills is extremely limited due to a small staff and not having an answering machine that you can leave such a simple message on. It is 2007, please join us. Again, this is a simple set up with the BEST DOCTOR POSSIBLE for your pet and a staff that actually cares about animals. Other considerations must be made and if you have a pet that is uncomfortable being lifted up, you have to consider alternatives. I want to add that costs are very reasonable and that includes Rx scripts. Your not going to beat the prices and unfortunately that is a factor for most of us. Dr. Ader can't be making any money on these, I've searched everywhere and her prices are the lowest. Now if I could only buy her the electric lift table and hook up an answering machine it would be perfect! read more

I love Dr. Adder! she saved my newfoundland's life a few years back by diagnosing a disease that four other veterinarians failed to pick up. She loves animals...all of them. In the past we have taken two pets to Dr. Ader and found her remarkable she diagnosed our Basset Hound as having a nervous breakdown and she was correct. I also took a cat to her that was told was fixed and when I got the cat she had stitches. My cat started to go into heat to my surprise and what Dr Ader said was that if a sliver of the ovary was left she would go into heat. Imagine our surprise when she called to say that my cat had never been fixed. She was just opened up and restiched up. No her office is not very pretty, But she is an amazing vet!!!!! read more

One is too good for Dr Ader. She completely miss diagnosed my Dog who had a simpled medical procedure which went wrong and my dog died a tragic death. When they released my dog the girl at the the desk wispered to us to bring the dog to a Vet Hospital because something is very wrong - well she was right as my dog collapsed at home and he died at the Hospital. Can honestly concur with Dr. Ader's knowledge, however her bedside manner is highly subjective and may be more akin to the tidal pull and full moon. She is lacking in all areas of people skills and has been known to hold animals hostage for hours to assert herself in a power struggle. Caution is also warranted when calling to check on a pet she has inpatient. She is also known to answer her phone and pretend that she isn't in the office -- even when she told you to call at a specified time. If those issues are a mute point for you, then by all means, pay her a visit. read more
