For August 2024, this business is holding court at the Saturday Ferry farmer's market at the La Coccina booth location in the waterside area of the Ferry Building.
My schedule was busy the 1st week so I made a point to stop their 2nd week and pick up a few things. Already having lunch at home, I only got two things. I got the pineapple limeade (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=48&select=xCoIeLPtgdG5pkip2vhJ9Q), made from a honey base sweetener instead of sugar. This had a slight tang without being overly sweet and quenched my thirst as I shopped the market. Besides this, I bought a pack of frozen Revueltas pupusas (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&select=cJEtlcYzZsnESzncWY_RlQ) (2 per pack), comprised of pork, red refried beans, and cheese; this comes with 8 oz. curtido and savory salsa. There was no cooking instructions listed and I forgot to ask at the market so I winged it. i thawed them overnight and baked it in the toaster oven on foil for 8 minutes (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&select=_0C-X3skoxFH1AT6mz7Axw). It was fine temperature wise and the outer layer had that tamale corn flavor and texture though a little firmer and chewier since they were pan fried. The filling flavor paired well with the curtido and the savory salsa (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&select=aMfjHE4qq2eTaw2Vf_Tksg) as I put the bites together. The curtido was a tangy and slightly spicy slaw and the salsa had a little kick too.
I enjoyed the two things that I tried. They are at the Ferry farmer's market on the remaining Saturdays in August so catch them if you'd like to try Salvadorean food. I will look at the cooked options this Saturday. Being with La Coccina, they are local and were happy when I told them that I'd mention them on Yelp. read more
