I've seen Adele a few times for hour long massages, and each massage has been great. One day last year, I woke up and could barely move my head. I was desperate to find a massage therapist near my apartment. One yelp search and a phone call later and I had a massage scheduled for that afternoon. As the other reviewers have mentioned, it's not a spa - but Adele is very professional. She steps out of the room when you're changing, always offers water and chocolate, and gave me extra time when my upper back/neck knots were especially troublesome. Her massage technique is different than any I've ever had - a mix of Swedish and deep tissue - and she really pinpoints the knots and gets in there (based on your comfort level). Great experience and amazing results! !!! I liked it all: the central location, the decoration of the room, the smells and the sounds of nature. I need to mention that I really liked Adele's attitude to her patients: she asked me a number of questions before the massage, she was very attentive during it and she worked extra time on my shoulder without asking for additional money. But the main indicator of the quality work for me is the result. Adele helped me a lot with a pain in my shoulder. Usually when I have something like this, I go and have a massage and it helps a little bit, but does not eliminate the pain completely, but this time I came home after the massage I did not feel anything. I thought that it might be a temporary effect of some painkilling cream that she used. But the next morning I did not feel the pain as well. For me it is a miracle. I'm 40 and had never had a massage before seeing Adele. My wife encouraged it for years - is a big fan herself - but the spa scene and touchy/feely things are generally not my bag. Between family, home, and an enormously stressful job, I recently found myself nearly crushed by the weight of the world on my shoulders - the alternatives seemed to be to drink heavily or purchase a one-way ticket to Nervousbreakdownville. Neither sounded too great so I began to contemplate different options. Remembering the recurring advice of my wife and the results enjoyed by Kramer on Seinfeld, episode 73 ("The Masseuse"), I decided to try a rubdown. I knew exactly what I didn't want, but was fairly clueless as to what else was out there so I "Binged" (same as "Googled" but with a fun picture) around a bit to see what was available. Between the reviews, her website testimonials, and proximity to my office, Adele seemed like a sound choice. I was still a bit apprehensive but made the call - she was able to see me for a 60-minute session that day. Her space is a studio in a professional building on the outside edge of the loop that seems to be mostly occupied by medical and dental practitioners. It is cozy, clean, and very inviting. After a bit of get-to-know-you dialog and an explanation of what to expect she got to work. The next 60+ minutes were life-changing. The laws of physics mandate that energy cannot be destroyed - only transferred. I'm not entirely clear how, but within that hour Adele had converted all my foot-tapping, hand-wringing, brow-furrowing, heart-palpitating energy into pure vitality. By the time she was finished, I was entirely relaxed yet full of vim and vigor. My perma-scowl was gone, I didn't flip the bird once on my rush hour drive home, and Angry Dad was replaced by Fun Dad. The experiment was a complete success and the process felt great to boot. My wife was pleased by the results but suggested I try other resources in case something even better is available. My response was a quick, decisive, "'fraid not - if it ain't broke, don't fix it". I've been back to see Adele every other week since but go for a 90-minute session (more is better) - would go every week if I had time. Stress is under control, my body feels great, and I'm substantially more pleasant to be around. Without a doubt, some of the benefit is simply from having a massage. Just as certain, however, is that the extent of the benefit is purely due to Adele. I work with professionals who excel, in part, because of their passion for what they do. It is very obvious that Adele's results are due to the same love for her calling. She appears to genuinely care about healing and obviously puts a part of herself into each session. Beyond that she also seems to have a clear intuition as to where it hurts. I have to root around on my own back to find the knot; she simply places her hand right upon the sweetspot as if drawn to it. This ability can only come from substantial experience and being in tune with the task. Simply put, she has definitively mastered her craft. Do yourself a favor, and treat yourself to the joys and healing provided by Adele. Just don't do it on Friday afternoons - that's my slot. read more

It's been a while that I had such good massage. As soon as I stepped out the office, in a such beautiful day, I decided to give myself a treat. As an experienced yelper, I just searched "near by". Under all the commercial salon and spa craps, I notice this one seems decent, not too many reviews, but every single one tells what it is: Small room, appointment only, relaxed surrounding and very nice session you would have with Adele, etc. My shoulders always bother me so much. During the session, she just magically took my mind away. The lotion (she doesn't use those cheap cheesy oils...) she used is something very light scene, skin feels smoother after all even. And the hot towel at the end just made the whole experience refreshing. Extra tips, it's a healing THERAPY massage, which would take your mind away from stress and make you feel good, our bodies won't lie. It's not just normal deep tissue massage you had before, and not sport massage either. And, she offers dark chocolate and bottle water as soon as you walked in too. How sweet! She assured me that I would leave feeling so much better & I did. Her area/ office is small, yet very cozy. She has water on hand & fresh fruit for you to snack on if you want it. She definitely is professional & is big on communicating with you regarding whats troubling you & what you are comfortable with. I like strong deep tissue massages & thats what she gave me. she was very thorough & gave a scalp massage , down to my toes & I felt rejuvinated afterwards. Hands down best massage I've ever had. I've received several massages in the Chicago land area but hers is definitely the best. I came across Adele because I work in the loop and had a terrible knot in my back. She worked very hard to get it out. Used several methods until it was gone. There's something about her methods and studio that will just make you feel at ease. I've had massages before but not like hers. I saw Adele several weeks ago and could not have been happier. I was totally stressed out and in need of a major rub down. I hopped on Yelp to read some reviews for places in the area and decided Adele was it. Luckily she was able to get me in last minute. She has a very comforting space in a great location- this is not your uppity spa- its a simple, beautiful and relaxing space. She is very welcoming and warm and within the first few minutes I was very relaxed. I have had several massages in my life, none like the one I received that night. While on a short family vacation, my hubby and I thought we'd take some time out for ourselves and get a massage. Since we're from out of town, I took to Yelp and gave Adele a call...so glad I did! She is an independent masseuse so we weren't able to do the couples thing but Adele was VERY accommodating with her schedule and was able to work with both of us individually. I usually get the really deep-down-dig-in-those-muscles-hurts-so-good massages and take the next day and a half recovering. Adele was something different...pure relaxation. She was kind and warm and very personable. She took the time to get to know me, my stressors, my sources of tension, work, family....the she took to work focusing on helping me relax. I felt like a melted stick of butter during the massage but thoroughly energized afterwards! Its been a while since I've had a massage from an independent masseuse (as opposed to some who works in a spa or hotel or Massage Envy) and I was reminded of how much ownership they take in their work and attention to clients. adele is wonderful as a person, but her massage is terrible. her technique is frantic and shallow. she cycles from head to feet, then back to neck area, then down again to the leg area, and so forth -- it is not relaxing. i asked her to move slower, but it's simply her style... there's also no sufficient pressure. a few times, i almost laughed out loud: adele took a phone call *during* the massage, continuing to massage me with one hand. she tried to massage my stomach. she also massaged my upper legs while i was on my back (translation: groin area). let's just say, if you are used to quality massages, this will be an unusual experience... on the plus side, there are apples, water, and chocolate to console yourself with after your emerge from the procedure. i did need the consolation. read more
