Concept - 20 food vans get together and offer up food over lunch time in Vic Square Implementation - It was more than just a gathering of trucks. It was the vibe of the thing, it was Mabo, it was trucking brilliant. Never have I seen so many high quality food vans in the one location all with line ups of Adelaidians waiting for some grub or a thirst quencher. From Raw Thirst to Burger Theory, La Cantina to Fair Espresso, Four Seeds and TacoCat and boys on bikes Smoothie Revolution and Veggie Velo there was something for everyone at this event and probably why half of Adelaide was in attendance. Tips to make the most of being forked? - Get there early or late (lines were long from 12:30pm-2:30pm) - If you don't like lines, shut the truck up and wait your turn. Fork is awesome. - Pace yourself and get a tasting of more than one thing - Enjoy lounging about in deck chairs or BYO picnic rug and make an arvo of it. Fork On The Road takes advantage of the following of 1 or 2 famous food vans and spreading the love to many - recognising we can all live and eat as one in Adelaide. But this year I was very excited to see the new venue "The Octagon". I think this really opens the doors for the Gluttony to get some bigger acts within its walls. Good move Gluttony! I was fortunate enough to see Tom Green in this Venue. I was really impressed with it's size. Kind of deceiving from outside. The chair set up in there was unusual though, the sides were facing the crowd rather than the stage. Nonetheless, great venue and well air-conditioned with a little bar. As for the rest of the Gluttony, loved to see more food on offer. The drinks lists were ok, but still costly. The set up seemed to change a lot this year and stretched out longer at the back. Which meant more space to sit and enjoy your surroundings. It was good to see the steampunk pigs again. But, I am hoping for something different next year. My thoughts are that the Gluttony has improved drastically this year in comparison to 2015. I imagine that 2017 will be bigger and better than ever!

Think young trendy underground, trying hard to not be trying hard; sort of hip, but a bit too…read moremawkish to actually be hip and you'll start to understand the Format Collective crowd - they don't care what you think mostly. They are a mixed group and none of them are particularly concerned about being real cool, they just want to explore their particular bent be it music, computers, film making, video art, painting, cartooning or social speaking, and to get on with things like drinking alcohol and fornicating with their chosen partner. They are young, but older than their years and they are absurdly un-trendy for that is their main aim I think, to be but not to be. If you consider underground publications photocopied and stapled together interesting artifacts then you will love Format. If you like post punk and alternative rock you will enjoy Format. If your idea of a big night is moshing on a small dance floor to a Melbourne underground band who are releasing an limited edition EP you have hit the jackpot here. They are a combination art gallery space, band gigging venue and computer geek experimental group with free internet that is a bit intermittent but it's the thought that counts. They have had poetry readings, zine workshops, talk festivals where they discuss how young and different they are (while they still are young and different in some cases, and while they are no longer either in others but remain in denial about that). They may have an obscure band in one night and a gallery opening the next night attracting many local geeks and inked freaks all in it for the cheap unpretentiously chilled out good time. To an outsider, a newbie to their group it may seem like they are nothing but a gaggle of masturbators, and that would make some of them laugh out loud while others of their number would cross the road and never speak to you or of you again, preferring to pretend that you do not exist. I personally enjoy my Format adventures and go along whenever I can. I think the group who run it are a little odd, but I'm sure they couldn't care less, and they may well think the same of me - whatever any of us think we always enjoy a good peaceful time in a largish group with no violence or actual vomiting, that's got to be good!

The Format Festival, which was a surprise success and is what they're most well most known for, is on every year in February and gets all the DIY kids riled up. The zine and DIY fair is hugely popular, and what a great opportunity to pick up strange little publications you'd never normally read. Over the last two I've noticed the number of cat based zines to normal zines ratio is about two to one, and I personally hope that trend continues. The great thing about Format events is they're come one come all, you can rock up without having any sort of connection to this crew, and have a great time and always guaranteed see and learn something new. I for one am very excited to see what they come up with in 2012.

Did you know that every Monday the Rhino Room does an open-mic night? Anyone can have an attempt at their stand up routine if they bring along three paying audience members at $10 per person. I am really sad that I did not know about this before. I would have been hanging out at the Rhino Room a lot more if I knew this earlier. Also, in saying that, if you are bored on a Monday night, go down for $10 worth of awesome local comedy. It is a great way to support locals who are testing out their material in a very comfortable and encouraging environment. The set that I watched last night was really awesome. There were some really talented newbies. It was great to watch them learn how to work the crowd. I will definitely be back to continue supporting them in the future. There is something about the Rhino Room. It is really cosy and intimate with the audience. Featuring classic velvet red stage curtains and some really cool and funky art painted on the walls. It is also available for hire for functions. Would be a cool place for a birthday or work function. I read a sign that said free room hire with bar tab of $1500. That is pretty decent these days. The bar stocks a good selection of beverages, including a couple of craft beers. This venue is renowned as one of the favs for travelling comedians and artists when they reach Adelaide. I read somewhere that Greg Fleet in particular really loved it. So, it is really worth keeping an eye on the acts on the Adelaide Central or Rhino Room website to see what is coming up. Or just come down for a good way to wind down after a hectic Monday!

If stand up comedy, local music or visual art isn't really your thing, then book the room yourself for a private function and invite your own friends - It's your night, and a great place to hang out with people you like. Plus the introduction of the downstairs bar, courtyard area, and regular themed parties, It now offers more opportunities to mingle and party on until the wee hours of the morning. There were a lot of people (me included), who had never heard of this event prior to its announcement for Adelaide. But it soon created a LOT of hype :) People were buying up/hiring all of the white clothing, shoes, hats, table cloths, chairs, napkins and table center decorations that there were to be had in Adelaide. My guest and I, put weeks of planning into this event. We planned out the menu, the table decorations, what we were going to wear :) a lot of the fun in this event for us was in the planning :) The idea of the event is that it is an elegant picnic in white, in a secret, public location. You meet at a particular spot around the city, register with your table leader, get on a bus, and then are driven to the secret location. It is only after you get on the bus, that you are told where the location is. It is a requirement that you dress in elegant white :) All white, clothes, shoes, hats, everything white :) It is also a requirement that you take with you a card table (or table of similar size), with white table cloth and napkins (linen) and two white chairs (or chairs with white chair covers) and an elegant picnic dinner :) When we purchased our tickets, we selected the Adelaide city location - as we had discovered the event through Yelp! :) However, two days before we got an email to say our pick up location had moved, to the corner of Frome Rd and Victoria Drive. Now, we had been talking about possible locations for this event to be held in Adelaide, and this change in location confirmed my suspicions about the secret location, and as it turns out, I was right :) it was the Zoo!! :) The only thing that I think could have been organised a little better was the actual arrival of people into the event. Things got a little confused with who was going where - and there was a bit of a bottle neck with people setting up. But this really was a minimal issue, and I am sure it will be ironed out if the event is to return :) The band, who were the entertainment for the evening were FANTASTIC!! And the FunSnapMe team who were present, printing peoples instagram photos tagged with #debadl was brilliant :) All in all I think the evening was a great success :) and I REALLY hope that the event will be back next year :) From my experience with various events in Adelaide, I know how much work must have gone into the event. As a result I wish to say a HUGE congratulations to all those involved in organising this event :) It was wonderful :)

The birds were joining in in a magnificently loud fashion at the beginning, which was fun and added to the atmosphere. Congratulations to the organisers. It was potentially an orgsniser's nightmare and not an event for the faint-hearted. It seemed to go without a hitch and the table leaders were well briefed and well prepared (thanks Ingrid!). Our group of 4 put in a lot of effort with food preparation, centerpiece, outfits etc and it was worth every bit of effort. It was wonderful to see that every person there had also put in that kind if effort, which made it even more special. Great atmosphere, fabulous location, terrific crowd, well organised, fun, different. Loved it! I hope there's another one next year!
