The clerks in this building are some of the most rude, unprofessional government workers I've ever seen.

I've been taking classes through the park district for a couple years now, but only just started…read morevisiting the rec center. I wanted to start running, but terrible weather was preventing me from being outside, so I hit upon a solution of buying a multi-use pass for the fitness center and using the treadmill. I didn't really want a monthly or quarterly pass because I'm just not dedicated enough to come regularly enough to make it worth it. But a 10-use pass for $27 or a 20-use pass for $36, that's pretty reasonable. This building is clearly an old school that was converted. I haven't explored all of it but there seem to be several rooms used for martial arts, dance, yoga, and probably other fitness classes. I've mostly been in the fitness center, which seems to be either one big or two smaller classrooms combined and converted. The good: There's all the basics and essentials -- weights/strength training on one side, including some machines, balance balls, resistance bands, etc. The cardio side has a few treadmills, a couple of ellipticals, a stair climber, a few bikes and a couple TVs. There is a water fountain, a restroom and a shower room. There also about 8 lockers for stashing stuff. The not-as-good: It just doesn't feel like a dedicated gym facility. I was spoiled by Wood Dale's rec center, a town about a third the size of Lombard. Wood Dale's has two proper locker rooms with showers, a free-to-the-community walking/running track and a fitness center that's bigger and has nicer, newer equipment. They also have a somewhat wider variety of classes. Lombard's facilities feel somewhat makeshift. They're a bit cramped, there's one shower with a note about letting it warm up for 15 minutes in winter, no indoor track, no spin classes. In my dream world, Lombard would take over the old Kmart space sitting and rotting at Roosevelt and Finley and make it a shiny new dedicated rec, fitness and community center. But in the real world, I'll make do with the adequate facilities at Sunset Knoll and keep running on the treadmill.

The extremely friendly staff was kind enough to still accept it. They were fast, funny, and nice to talk to. A nice way to start my morning of errand running :)

It is like pulling the toupe off a guy and seeing he is bald. Elk Grove Village is a Self Rule Government that apparently (by reading other people's comments who have lived here for years) does as it wishes. The fire department employees are great people. The police department has nice people also, but does some underhanded hiding to snag speeders such as parking in the middle of the road at night with their lights off. I called them out on this and I was told it's legal and that is how they make money. Sure it's legal. Shaking my head. There is a great industrial park where a Freedom of Information Act should be filed as to how much tax dollars are coming into this village for there is not one park bench found except for along Devon Avenue where they have some sculptured Elk. Devon is not very close to residential areas. The residents have pointed out to me the government has offered land development contracts to friends out of the area (no proof of any friendship). They have torn down a bowling alley people used. Restaurants have closed up due to daydreaming landlords of property value. The Jewel/Osco during the last snowstorm let the people's feet melt the ice and snow. The manager of course blamed the landlord. The hospital, is a whole other story in itself. The people are nice for the most part. They are NOT heroes because they worked during the pandemic. A hero has a different meaning than doing your job. This last time I was there in the emergency room with terrible stabbing pains in my back, the nurse wheeled me into a small intake room and whacked the side of the chair into the doorway. No sorry as I grimaced in pain. EGV is not cute by any stretch of the word unless you think Rumplestilskin was handsome. If you want cute, go to Galena. That is cute. EGV...Hunchback of Notre Dame.

One is specifically for small dogs, but that doesn't mean they can't go into the regular park. There are picnic tables for owners to sit, but I wouldn't recommend trying to have an actual picnic on them. Dogs love to jump on the tabletops. There are also supposed to be doggy pick-up bags, but I didn't see them. I only know about them because some woman, apparently the poop police, approached me and suggested that I "clean up after [my] dog" since I didn't do it immediately as I was having a conversation with someone. Apparently she could watch my dog do its business but couldn't be bothered to notice I came prepared with a bag dispenser. You know, because I just carry around my own bags on my dog's leash as a fashion accessory. They've recently done some construction in the area for the better. There is now a very pretty paved pathway with bricks and some of them are custom ordered by people who donated to the park. It's still a work in progress and I can't wait to see all the other updates.

It is three acres and is divided into two different sections, a big dog yard and a small dog yard. The big dog yard is located on the South side and the small dog yard is located on the North side. Both yards are completely fenced in and enclosed. Each yard has water bowls, toys, trash cans, doggy waste bags, doggy tubes and picnic benches. The surface of each yard is cover with wood mulch and wood chips. The small dog yard even has a fake fire hydrant for the doggies to air themselves out on. Just a dogs dream. The park is maintained by the Wood Dale Park District but they ask that you be responsible and supervisor yourself. I have met many friendly and interesting people there with all different types of K9s. The park is great for Families and friends. There is no registration or fee to use the park and visitors are welcome. Many visitors and Wood Dale residents use the park. Just North of the park in an old historic cabin and a kids park. It is an ideal set-up for the Family. The park has always been clean and safe. Employees of the Park District and the Wood Dale Police make periodic visits to ensure a safe environment. Wood Dale did a great job with the White Oaks Dog Park. I gave the White Oaks Dog Park, FIVE STARS. Bring you FIVE STAR DOGS TO WHITE OAKS DOG PARK,,,, SAYS BIG DOG!!!!
