I've been taking classes through the park district for a couple years now, but only just started…read morevisiting the rec center. I wanted to start running, but terrible weather was preventing me from being outside, so I hit upon a solution of buying a multi-use pass for the fitness center and using the treadmill. I didn't really want a monthly or quarterly pass because I'm just not dedicated enough to come regularly enough to make it worth it. But a 10-use pass for $27 or a 20-use pass for $36, that's pretty reasonable. This building is clearly an old school that was converted. I haven't explored all of it but there seem to be several rooms used for martial arts, dance, yoga, and probably other fitness classes. I've mostly been in the fitness center, which seems to be either one big or two smaller classrooms combined and converted. The good: There's all the basics and essentials -- weights/strength training on one side, including some machines, balance balls, resistance bands, etc. The cardio side has a few treadmills, a couple of ellipticals, a stair climber, a few bikes and a couple TVs. There is a water fountain, a restroom and a shower room. There also about 8 lockers for stashing stuff. The not-as-good: It just doesn't feel like a dedicated gym facility. I was spoiled by Wood Dale's rec center, a town about a third the size of Lombard. Wood Dale's has two proper locker rooms with showers, a free-to-the-community walking/running track and a fitness center that's bigger and has nicer, newer equipment. They also have a somewhat wider variety of classes. Lombard's facilities feel somewhat makeshift. They're a bit cramped, there's one shower with a note about letting it warm up for 15 minutes in winter, no indoor track, no spin classes. In my dream world, Lombard would take over the old Kmart space sitting and rotting at Roosevelt and Finley and make it a shiny new dedicated rec, fitness and community center. But in the real world, I'll make do with the adequate facilities at Sunset Knoll and keep running on the treadmill.

The extremely friendly staff was kind enough to still accept it. They were fast, funny, and nice to talk to. A nice way to start my morning of errand running :)

I was impressed. We had the entire pool room to ourselves, with two giant pools, one shallow for the kids with a slide, and the other with lanes for more serious lap swimming. They also have a large hot tub which I enjoyed immensely. There was room for our food, gifts and seating all in view of the pools, and their locker rooms, showers and restrooms were well maintained. The doors lead out to a nice patio area in the back, where there are outdoor pools and beautiful scenery. I'm sure we were inside because it had rained that day. I don't know what my cousins paid for this private event on a weekend, but it was worth it. Fun was had by all.

This review isn't about amenities--it's about safety and accountability…read more There has been a longstanding, repeated issue involving a member who has engaged in inappropriate and harassing behavior toward underaged lifeguards over multiple years. According to staff reports and community awareness, these concerns have been raised more than once and are not new. What's deeply troubling is the pattern of response. Instead of a permanent resolution, the approach has reportedly been temporary suspensions followed by reinstatement--after which similar concerns continue to surface. If accurate, that is not a meaningful safeguard but rather a cycle. When an organization is aware of repeated allegations involving minors and continues to allow the same individual back into that environment, it raises serious questions about judgment, oversight, and priorities. At a minimum, it suggests a failure to put adequate protections in place for staff. This is not about one incident--it is now a repeated pattern with clear evidence that the executive director and board do not care about the safety of the young women they employ. Anyone considering employment here, or parents with kids working here, should be asking very direct questions about how harassment is addressed and what protections actually exist in practice. The parl district's mandated sexual harassment training for their staff while doing nothing to protect them from harassment from their precious paying members. Until there is clear accountability and transparency, this is a concern the community should take seriously.

I went to the front desk and I wanted to get my money for my Oreos that they have scammed me to waste my last two dollars on because I do not have enough money for that I am broke if I'm going to be honest and I needed those to eat and this corporation out of pure greediness did not give me my money back they told me to call the number on the vending machine. I called him. They did not answer so I went up stairs to ask. They didn't even give me my money back and they told me to come back a different day, but that was supposed to be my food for this week I am a frequent customer and I come here and buy things from the vending machine and I spend money on sports and other things. I felt very disrespected. and I felt they had no respect for me even though I'm the machine there is a sticker that says they will refund me. They did not in fact refund me and they did not give me any money for my two dollar Oreos they are a big and wealthy corporation, but spending two dollars on somebody's Oreos that are their fault in. They are still getting their money because they are getting the money in the vending machine. so they stole my two dollars disrespected me and made me go hungry for this week. A lot of the outdoor parks in MN charge to skate. Every so often, a booklet comes out with tons and tons of classes for kids and adults--the classes are decently priced, and really great for the kids. Mine took the Art and Soccer, and really loved them. Elmhurst also has a lot of nice parks, a couple with pools or spray pads. My kids and I enjoy them a lot! Also, the EPD offer preschool classes, which my kids are currently enrolled in. They are loving it, and so am I! The teachers are super sweet, and really teach the kids a lot--from counting and alphabet, to manners. You name it, they teach it. My kids have flourished during their time in the Sunbeams and Rainbows program! It's a tiny bit expensive, but well worth it. I would totally recommend it to anyone looking for a preschool!
