There are no words to explain how grateful we have been through the years for Dr Adderson, Robin Crabtree and the rest of the staff. My husband and I have been seeing this Dr for many years - perhaps 25? Dr A. has always spent enough time to listen to what symptoms or issues we had and refer us to specialists if necessary. He is a legend in our family because he'll call our home in evenings or weekends if we had an illness that could go bad quickly. I have never forgotten Dr. Adderson. To this day I have never met a Dr. more caring and sensitive. 35 years ago when my son was born, I called him because my boy had "diaper rash" on a Sunday, he showed up on my porch with his two children, he put on his white coat and came in to check on my baby. He understood a new mother's concern, he never made me feel silly, he was there for me, my son, and his father. I'm leaving a review for my Mom as she is not super tech savvy, and it broke my heart that she was treated so awfully and didn't know where to leave feedback. Our family has gone to Dr. Adderson for over a decade, however my mom had not been in for a few years. We have always enjoyed seeing Dr. Adderson, however his staff is appalling. When my mother called, she was immediately reprimanded for not having come in in a few years, and was even told verbatim, 'We have no interest in seeing you.' She wasn't even given a chance to ask if she could be reinstated as the woman cut her off with a curt goodbye and hung up. This is a disappointing reflection on the doctor and practice. For any people looking for a new doctor, I'd recommend looking elsewhere. read more

Dr. J. Deryl Adderson has been my doctor for 35 years. During this time, I have both agreed and disagreed with his various recommendations for my health. Over the years, he has employed kind office staff and mean office staff. The true constant is the doctor, himself. Although I have not always agreed with his recommendation, he has always been honest and respectful to me and my wife. He has never been rude nor insulting. He listens to my comments and questions. I believe he has a tremendous amount of integrity and always tries to do what he believes is best for the patient. For these reasons, we have stayed with his practice for so long. read more

I'm updating my review as it's been a few years of going here now. I'm considering switching doctors because I feel like it's time to move on and find an office that's a bit kinder and more updated. This office uses a lot of paper and I walk out with papers that I'd rather have online to view. In the world of using less paper, I always walk out of here with a stack of paper after every visit. I'd rather not have my personal medical info floating around my house or car until it makes it into a folder or to be honest - the shredder. I also had a pretty bad back injury a year ago and had to fight the doctor for any kind of pain medicine when I could barely move without being in pain. This was a real disappointment being that it came from the main doctor of the office. I was in so much pain and it took so much to even just get to the office, then I was told to take OTC stuff when that was not working. I couldn't walk or move without pain. I started to cry and said that's not enough - I cannot live like this. I won't forget this visit and this painful injury. I've never been late for my appointments and have even had to wait before for my appointments but I was recently a little late and as soon as I walked in the door I was given a short lecture about being 11 minutes late. After years of going here, I feel like they are barely even remembering me as a patient (they are a small office) but still treat me like I'm a new patient coming in late for my appointments. read more

It should be zero star instead of one but could not give zero star. I have been with Dr. Adderson for roughly 10 years and it has been fantastic. I could not say the same about his office manager Robbin. I went for my annual physical check-up and got charged for and extra visit. I had asked why but never got an answer other then you had asked questions. I never asked any questions, only answered what the doctor had asked and go over the lab results. This went on for three months through the receptionist and never got to talk to the Robbin. Just yesterday got a letter from their office saying pay the bill or we will go through collection agency. Really? Tried one last time to get answer but was told "you owe us that and pay it" then hung up. Wow. You would think after 10 years of being a patient/customer you would be treated with a little bit more dignity. Apparently that is not the case. I will be looking a different office from now on. One that treat people with a little class. If you want to be billed for services that did not happened, will not get an explanation, and threatened to send to collection agency if not paid, Robbin is your office manager! Dr. Adderson has been my doctor since I graduated UCSD and is patient and listens to all your symptoms. I believe he graduated from medical school in canada. The only down side is that he gets busy and sometimes is not in the office but that is when you can also be seen by the RN or she might be a D.O. I forgot, but she is pretty knowledgable. He does care and keeps good records on his laptop. read more

First of all when you choose a doctor, as hard as it is, don't make a decision based on the office staff. Office staff come and go. If you have a good doctor you keep them for as long as possible and watch the staff change along the way. Dr. Adderson and Robin Crabtree have been my providers for over 20 years. Dr. Adderson is an extremely sensitive and knowledgeable doctor that anyone would be fortunate to have care for them. He goes above and beyond the call of duty consistently. Dr. Adderson and Robin Crabtree have taken care of my family of five and diagnosed and treated things along the way in a quick and efficient way that I am certain other providers would have missed or misdiagnosed. They are top notch in their approach to patients. They take the time needed and I've never once felt rushed during a visit. I love the way they are diligent in keeping track of the results from other specialists that you may see. It is comforting to know that one extremely competent outstanding team is keeping an eye on my whole healthcare experience. If you are lucky enough to be able to choose Dr. Adderson as your physician, grab that opportunity. It may be the best health decision of your life. read more

I can't say enough good things about this Dr. and his staff. I have been a patient for about 15 years now and am still amazed by his compassionate, gentle nature. He is thorough, listens to everything you have to say and never rushes his patients. Also, I have never waited longer than 10 minutes at an appointment. Obviously, he schedules his patients within reasonable time frames. His Nurse Practitioner, Robin, is wonderful. I have no hesitation in seeing her if he is booked. They are a perfect pair. The office staff is caring and friendly Dr. Adderson and his staff are proof that it can be done if priorities are right. He puts his patients first rather than having a financial goal in mind and trying to meet his quota for the day. Truly an exceptional man and practice. read more

I think Dr. Adderson's office has been listening to these yelp reviews and pushing to give better service because I never experienced any of the issues listed previously with 1 and 2 stars. It's a shame that those who have never even been in the doctor's office are bringing down his overall rating. The administrative staff always returned my messages and phone calls as soon as possible. When I needed them to fill out paperwork for Peace Corps, I gave them plenty of notice and they kept everything organized and finished early. They may not have always known the answers to questions, but they always immediately asked the doctor or nurse practitioner, or called me back. Also, be proactive. If they aren't calling you back, CALL THEM. I had a great experience with both the doctor and the nurse practitioner. I never felt rushed and they always answered all of my questions. When necessary, they referred me to specialists and followed up. No complaints! The only reason I left the office is because I no longer live in San Diego. read more

Very nice doctor and at a close location right off Governor and Regents. He is way better than any doctor at Student Health on campus at UCSD. If you go in at Student Health, they will send you home with rest because they will automatically assume you have the flu and just need rest and some aspirin. Dr. Adderson will actually take time to jot down all your symptoms. He even takes time to do lab work to check for strep infections! The receptionist and nurse are also very friendly and patient. read more

After I told the scheduler I had a PPO, she said she couldn't make me an appointment until I faxed a copy of my insurance card to her. Dr Adderson is a wonderful caring thoughtful dr. My mother has been his patient she thinks for about 50 years. She thinks the world of him! I have been in office with her several times and have found the staff to be delightful. She really thinks he takes the time to get to know his patients. My mother feels he sincerely cares about her and her condition. Dr Adderson is an old fashioned doctor and I mean it in the nicest way. You don't feel rushed and he knows everything about you. The staff at Dr. Adderson's office has since been retrained or replaced. They are prompt, courteous and understanding. Dr. Adderson has been my Dr. for almost 18 years. I can highly recommend him to anyone looking for a caring general care physician. He is a good listener. He is part of the Sharp Community Medical Group for which I can't say enough good things about. Dr. Adderson reminds me of the type of Dr. that my parents would have had growing up in a small town. This is a good thing, as he is personable and you don't feel like you are just another number. His office is in a strip mall, do not let that sway you, I'm finding that going to a Dr. in a big fancy office doesn't guarantee good service. I came here because I heard great things about Dr. Adderson, and after coming here I have to agree that they are all true. But his support staff will leave you disappointed. Getting someone on the phone can be a challenge, and messages I left with them often went unanswered for days. The pain and frustration I went through getting them to forward my medical results to another office left me no choice but to switch to another PCP. read more

As much as I would like to give this practice a better review, their patent relationship practice prevents me from doing so. Several years ago I called in to make an appointment and was advised I had been dropped as a patient. I plead with Robin to reinstate me, arguing that I had been a patient since before Dr. Adderson took over the practice. She did reinstate me only to receive the same response on my next call for an appointment. I did not receive any correspondence, phone calls or email communication prior. Aweful office manager, they hire young inexperienced admin staff, not their fault they are young and inexperienced but it is the office manager ?) Robyn who is a complete bit&ch. She messes up and lies to cover up her mistakes. Without going into detail on several ocassions she messed appointments up and then tried to cover her tracks. I have been a patient since 1990 when Dr had his office in downtown SD. My husband & granddaughter are also patients. His Physician's Assistant, Robin is exceptional. BOTH of them are careful diagnosticians and caring people. I have received treatment for illness and referrals to the specialists when appropriate. AND, Dr A always follows up with personal phone calls to check on patients' progress. Regrettably, he cannot take any new patients. i wish everybody could have a Dr A. read more

I have seen several GP doctors over the years however when my OBGYN referred Dr. Adderson to me about 28 years ago I've been with him ever since. Both Dr. Adderson and Nurse Practioner Robin Crabtree offer the best care available. They make you feel like you are the only patient they have and will take the time required to diagnose your symptoms. I tried to make an appt and establish myself as a new patient and was told first I had to run a copy of my insurance card by the office before they would make an appt for me. I tried to see if I could scan it and send it via email, and they don't have email! I have a 3-year old...no, I can't run the card over. I found the Dr. Adderson in my insurance directory...how is it that they can't call and verify my insurance and take a snapshot of it when I get there for my appt?? Dr. Adderson has been my doctor since the early ninety's. I was recommended to him and he is far and few between. I've been thru several serious health conditions and attribute alot of my better health these days because of his care. He tries hard to recommend you to a specialist that will be just as caring etc., (that's hard to find these days as alot of doctors are so "prescription med crazy, or knife/surgery crazy") As the other reviews indicate, he is patient and truly cares about people - a bedside manner you don't see these days from doctors. As to the person who called and were put off by the questions, I can tell you his staff has changed several times, overall they've been wonderful, but sometimes staff has to "learn" what kind of overall spirit the doctor wants to convey to his patients or new patients. I'd recommend sending in whatever info you need to to make your appointment because I promise you, it will be worth it - not in the long run, in the short run. And, the nurse practitioner carries on the same spirit of caring and good will that he does. If you can get appointment to start seeing this doctor - you will thank the rest of us! read more

I started seeing Dr. A. in the 80's. Moved away from San Diego to as far away as Italy several times, but always try to come back to him when I am here. I am here now after 10+ years in Santa Barbara, and can't wait to see him. Dr. Addersons staff is inexperienced and the service you receive is very poor. The main issue is the office manager - Robin, rude, dishonest and obnoxious to deal with. I have since moved on from dealing with Dr Adderson and his incompetent staff but I would warn anyone about choosing him as your PCP. His bed side manager is to be glued to his laptop with minimal interaction with you as a patient. If you are like me and need a doctor only once a year you can put up with that but what can't be tolerated is the office manager who will lie to save her own skin when she has made a mistake. The silver lining in all this is never having to deal with the doctor or his office manager ever again read more
