I found a rental car on Kayak, which listed ADDCAR Rent A Car as the provider, and paid for it through Expedia. I thought I had a fantastic deal: $75.11 for nine days. On the shuttle, I noticed it was marked "Car Rental Consolidated" and listed several brands: NEXTCAR, COLUSA, CARWIZ, ADDCAR, ZOOM, AND OTOQ. I began to doubt the deal and looked up CARWIZ. It is not BBB accredited and, as of September 20, 2026, has five complaints on file with the BBB. Reviews on Trustpilot, Reddit, and Tripadvisor are also full of negative comments. I panicked at the thought of having no car for my vacation. I picked up the car on September 6, 2026, at the ADDCAR Rent A Car counter in Tampa, Florida (operated by COLUSA Rent A Car). The agent repeatedly called me "my love," which felt unprofessional. A couple waiting in the office, anxious and full of questions, kept interrupting my agent and delayed me by at least half an hour. I finally had to ask them to wait their turn because I needed to leave. The agent required me to buy prepaid toll coverage at $12.99 per day. Neither the coverage nor its terms appear in my rental contract. They were only posted on a sign in the office, which said that declining would cost $25 per day plus the actual tolls, so I had no real choice. The agent stated that the compliance department also objected to the limits of my own car insurance. Registration seemed to take forever. The car, a small Toyota Corolla, had filthy seats, and the key fob battery died almost immediately. The only good thing about it was the fuel economy. Expedia charged me $75.11 for the reservation, but ADDCAR issued me a separate invoice for $453.50 with no credit for that payment. Altogether, I was billed $528.61 for a rental I booked at $75.11, about seven times the price. I returned the car on September 15, exactly nine days after pickup, but I was billed for 10 days. The invoice also has no toll line, even though I prepaid for tolls, so I can't tell where that charge went. The charges included a $279.90 line labeled "waiver/deposit reduction" that the invoice never explained, a $57 "broker prepayment fee" that was also unexplained, $33.10 in time charges, $32.40 in sales tax, a $20 Florida surcharge, and a $15 disinfection fee, even though the seats were filthy. What happened at pickup At the counter I was told I only had 50 miles per day. I showed the confirmation email and said this was false advertising. I did not use profanity. I was upset and I argued the price. They quoted a very high fee to add unlimited miles and about $30 extra per day to use my own full-coverage insurance. Then they want your insurance info, which ours was fine but if it wasnt what are you supposed to do at that point? That should be discussed before reserving. Now come the best part: counter guy continues to interrupt our transaction taking phone calls speaking in spanish. My husband is fluent and can overhear them discussing that we were there in front of him and three hour wait for a car etc. he gets off the phone and says he's sorry but no SUV you can have a toyota corrolla. At this point 45 mins after my scheduled pick up time I flipped and said nope get the shuttle back and they took us back to the airport. The counter guy and shuttle driver must have communicated about us being pissed about the switch and shuttle driver's attitude was disgusting when he returned to pick us up. Once I was there, I experienced an excessive wait and was provided a vehicle in questionable condition. Staff stated I was required to purchase their liability coverage because my personal auto insurance did not provide $300,000 in third-party liability coverage. This is a trap to charge people. Travelers and renters beware! This company is terrible. I had to book a compact car rental while my car was being repaired. Through Expedia, I prepaid the full amount for a 19 day rental. When we arrived, right out of the gate, the attendant was extremely rude for no clear reason. I think he was prepared to have an upset customer. When I gave him the usual license and credit card, he snapped 'give me your insurance declaration pages'. It took me a few to pull it up on my phone. After review, he informed me that I would pay $15/day for declining their insurance and using my own coverage. When I asked why he snapped 'its in the Terms & Conditions'. When I argued this he just continued to repeat this. I eventually asked to cancel this as the charge would double my rental fee. I noted the invoice notes 'All taxes and fees included'. He just told me to leave and take it up with the booking agent. When I contacted Expedia, I got ZERO support as the 'admin fee' for declining their coverage is buried in their T&C. It makes not sense, but they have created this convenient bait and switch so either you cancel and incur the rental cost as you are deemed a 'no show' OR you must rent and pay double what you prepaid. Everyone of us who were there left without a car. Additionally they guy there is very rude and will call his friends to talk about you in Spanish and use very derogatory language.
