Closet Factory - Open wall bed unit with pull-out shelves for temporary counter space.

Closet Factory

I requested through Costco someone to come and take measurements for a desk/bookshelf in the…read moreoffice and Beth came and provided us with a design that she worked with her Autocad while she was here. We approved the design and waited about four months for the huge piece to be built. It looks wonderful and it is just what we wanted. Two countertop 4 feet pieces had to be built again and replaced because there was a gap of about .5 inch on each side that the installer told us about when he finished and he assured us it was all the way from the back wall and not just on the front which they eventually tried to blame on the wall. Even if the wall was bowed the measuring should have accounted for the variance. What is important here is that they did replace the two 4 foot pieces with two new slightly larger pieces that make it all the way to the wall and leave no gaps at all. It took some explaining to the owner/manager and he ordered the replacement pieces and this time he sent two people that had to do some disassembling but got it done in less than four hours and did a great job. The company will stand behind their work and make any repairs to make it look professional and that is why even if we had to wait a little longer we are giving them 5 stars. Very happy with the work done and if I had to use them again I would do it in a heartbeat.

We worked with Betsy Smith and she quickly understood what we wanted and presented options. She's very responsive- even after the sale is made. I have nothing but great things to say about these folks!

If you've never had a custom closet this may be a company you'll be happy with, but if you've had a…read morelegit cabinet maker in the past - steer clear! They build standard size "boxes" that are "designed" to fit your space using a wall mounted "system". You don't get true custom depths or custom corner units & they use "fillers" to fill-in gaps BUT you are not told this during the design and it obviously wastes space. We were assigned a "designer" Kim from Columbia, SC. The warehouse and office staff are 2+ hours north in Spartanburg where owner has a shared-space & local cabinet company They scheduled & came quickly. Spent SEVERAL hours at the house drawing 3 small closet designs. There were 2 CloserByDesign (CBD) catalogs to see options, however this particular franchise "chose" not to offer many selections. Kim was personable and mindful of not running up unnecessary costs. To receive and additional small discount we paid 1/2 deposit (check) and agreed to pay balance on install by check. Initially told 10-12 weeks for install. Scheduler called the following day - actual install 14-16 weeks. BIG difference! 4 months later. 2 man team came on time. Saw right away a big design flaw. They do a "partial build" on site to "fix" these issues. We agreed on a filler to fix the flaw but we can no longer can fully access the light switch. If design simply switch shelves with hanging clothes unit it would not have been a problem. Shocking the designer made this error. The install crew were great but there were other problems with the drawing and we were left with a bitnof a mess in this tiny utility closet. I mentioned I wasn't pleased with it and they mist have told the manager because the next day the scheduler called and said they would come back and fix the problems resulting from poor design/error in drawing) and also failed to install moulding on a cabinet and didn't leave all the add-on hooks. Anyway we went back and forth and came to an agreement on fixes. I was passed around and had to re-explain the issues - once to a manager who wanted to charge me for items another manager told me I could have for free in exchange for not having them "re-do" the small closet. That was frustrating and I was losing patience at that point. We worked it out. This all concluded a few weeks later when they came out to tweak the initial install and gave us the missing items. it was SIX months from deposit to completion. The closets are better than they were, but this is really equivalent to what Hime Depot or Lowes offers. Cost $7500 (cash discounts) for 3 small closets and 1 cabinet in a water room. I probably should have gotten a quote from Lowes or HomeDepot to compare prices. I encourage you to so that!
