Job was never finished because they didn't understand what was asked despite at length…read morewalk-throughs. Asked for weed removal, weed barrier installation, removal of yard rock and mulching. The owner (Kelly) walked around with me and took pictures of every area I specified. We discussed at length the volunteer trees that I wanted removed and he took photos and made notes on his phone. Their 'crew' showed up fairly late in the morning. A younger man asked for clarification on what was done and I did a second walk through with him explaining everything. Two of the four employees they sent were not very efficient. I took photos of them sitting on my front porch and not working (with times) and sent this to the owner. They also did not have loppers, I lent them mine. Unsure of why you wouldn't bring this on a landscaping job. Before they left for the day, they informed me of a paint spill on my driveway. Promised to return to clean it up but let it sit overnight. It's unclear as to why their employees are using paint cans as chalk blocks for trailers, but my driveway will never be the same. They 'completed' the job while I was not home so I was not able to speak to them about my concerns. Did not receive a call or message that they were done. They did not finish weeding the entire side of the fence or back part of the yard. I asked them to weed, place weed barrier, and mulch these sections. It was left weed whacked (but appears as if the operator has some vision issues... My 7-year old could have done a better job). When asked about why the job was not completed correctly, they claimed they did not know and would need to charge more money. Any invoices sent to us were not professionally done and did not outline individual line item costs so it's unclear how much they actually are charging for materials. Additionally, we tried to use them for snow removal service last winter. They did not show up once (and didn't call), and it took a poor Google review for them to show up any time after that. Considering their poor work ethic with my yard work, I won't be using them for snow removal or any other work around my property. Please be cautious when hiring this company!

D&J bid for removal of two large dead ash trees on my residential property in Boone, IA and…read morepre-approved payment by credit card with the office. Cutting crew took down the easier tree out front and then left when they realized payment wasn't in cash, making excuses that the ground was too soft to drive the truck back to take the second tree that day. I paid 1/2 of the bid by credit that day and followed up for months with calls to arrange a time to remove the final tree. D&J made constant excuses about soft ground, then snow, and stalled for months, never coming to take second tree and honor the bid. Ultimately I went with a competitor (Pitts) from Ames in June of 2020 (Initially contacted D&J September 2019!). Communication between Owners, office staff (nice lady named 'Red'), and cutting crew was a mess. They did not have their act together at all. D&J bid $3,000 for the two trees together. One was easier and in front of house. The other was in back on property line, trunk within 15' of 2 garages and houses with large limbs spanning over all the buildings. Both trees were 30-40 foot Green Ashes about 50-55 years old, dying from Ash borer. In retrospect I should not have paid D&J half that day for taking down the easy tree. After multiple bids for the remaining, more difficult, tree it was objectively a $2,000 job. This means that D&J functionally duped me out of $500 by taking the easy tree and running, never to return. I consider that as good as theft, but likely have little legal recourse. To be fair the tree they did take down was done smoothly and cleanup was adequate. It is the lying, delays, and dishonesty of the interaction overall that leads me to warn other potential customers with this review. If you watch them like a hawk and document everything, never paying a cent until the job is complete I suppose they are minimally adequate as a tree service. This is why I gave 2 stars out of 5.

He quickly diagnosed the problem ( pump had a crack due to frost damage), was able to order a replacement part that then was installed a few days later. The price was lower than estimated due to less time to change out the part and he was very pleasant and honest throughout the visits. Finding a capable, honest and dependable service guy such as Greg is a real plus in a small city such as ours and he will be on speed dial in case we have any other appliance issues.
