I hate giving 1 star reviews, but I had a terrible experience here and don't want others to go through the same thing. When doing your tax return, they send you a HUGE overwhelming packet that you have to fill out for them. It takes a ton of time.. almost a similar amount of work as it would've taken just to do the returns yourself. I understand that they need to gather all the information, but it was daunting. Then both my dad and I got the packet back to them well before their deadline...and the communication was terrible after that point. I felt like I never knew what was going on, my questions took forever to be answered, and they were so backed up that they asked my dad if he could file an extension because they couldn't get his done on time! Even when he got it to him by their deadline. It was so frustrating. I had previously got a quote for how much it would cost, and they told me they wouldn't go over about $800 and that it should be much lower than that even. That seemed super high ($450 is more typical) but I went with it anyway because I didn't have time to find someone else. When the invoice came, they charged almost $1300! WAY higher than I've ever paid for taxes. The same thing happened to my dad. Luckily I got them to take that amount down since they told me they wouldn't go over $800 initially, but it still seemed outrageous. If you do anything, make sure you get a quote initially so you can protect yourself when they try to charge you an arm and a leg! I'm now using a new accountant who is world's better, and he's informed me that Adam's & Petersen did something wrong on my return last year. Now I just have to hope the IRS doesn't decide to look at it. It's incredibly frustrating when I spent so much money and they even messed it up. I'm so glad I didn't use them again. I've worked with a lot of different accountants and every other one has been a world's better experience. Please save yourself a lot of frustration and find someone else. read more

I was (past tense) with AP CPAs for over a decade. But it's just gone down hill as they've grown. Their process is cumbersome, at best, and their costs are high. The last few years they've also shifted to holding your tax return hostage and wanting payment up front, but NOT telling you even how much that is. The messaging is very passive-aggressive, like "here is your tax return, we won't file it until you pay us" and then they don't explain how to make a payment, other than "go to our website." Yet, on the website they want a customer ID and the payment amount, which, they didn't tell you! I had to drag that information out of them. It's crazy. On top of that, I did virtually all of the prep this year, giving them everything in an itemized spreadsheet and ready to go. They just had to do some data entry. I didn't even have much complexity to things this year. Yet it's a $1250 bill -- checking online for industry standard rates and it's still in the $750-$800 range, so I'm not sure how they even can justify such a thing. I asked them for an accounting of the time spent behind the cost, and they refused to give it (ironic, I know, from an accounting firm), and instead said maybe I should just find somebody else next year. Well, that was already my plan. Being told to take a hike for having the gall to ask them to account for where their costs are coming from, the rising costs, difficult to use website, lack of transparency on costs and billing, and overall: it's just not worth it anymore. All that being said, I think all the individual people there are pretty nice to work with, and I feel bad with such a negative review. ive been with This firm for over 20 years. Each year my experience gets worse --and their Billings get bigger. In 2021 my wife earned less than $700. ( we are married filing separatly. I filled out the voluminous packet of questions and got them back 3 weeks before the filing date. I heard nothing until a letter informed me they were running behind and if I didn't need to pay more they would file for an extension. (I guess I was ok but how could I be sure?) Then 3 weeks later I asked if I should get worried about the filing. They put me off and when I challenged their response they said they would jump the waiting line. 2 hours later I got a call they were done. (My taxes are not complicated--obviously). in short: they mailed me the returns with 2 bills for $415 each filing. WOW. For a $830 bill I"m getting about $150 total refund. I've had a great relationship with this firm! They do my business and personal taxes and have been helping me for almost ten years. These pros do an EXCELLENT job compiling and interpreting my tax situation through many complex and difficult scenarios. My business is a non traditional model and it takes a lot of expertise and motivation to make the most of my tax situation. They are timely and accurate, always seek me out if they have a question. I was overcharged for my personal and business taxes last year... They charged me $3000 which was just about the same amount that I received from the government. They also charged me $300 for my son's personal taxes which would have been a 1040 EZ form.. ironically he also received about $300 back from the government. I called to question the charges and was told there was nothing to question... the charges are what they are and there was nothing I could do about them. I've delt with other tax accountants before and was never charged over $450 for their services. I will never use this company again. read more
