I hate giving 1 star reviews, but I had a terrible experience here and don't want others to go…read morethrough the same thing. When doing your tax return, they send you a HUGE overwhelming packet that you have to fill out for them. It takes a ton of time.. almost a similar amount of work as it would've taken just to do the returns yourself. I understand that they need to gather all the information, but it was daunting. Then both my dad and I got the packet back to them well before their deadline...and the communication was terrible after that point. I felt like I never knew what was going on, my questions took forever to be answered, and they were so backed up that they asked my dad if he could file an extension because they couldn't get his done on time! Even when he got it to him by their deadline. It was so frustrating. I had previously got a quote for how much it would cost, and they told me they wouldn't go over about $800 and that it should be much lower than that even. That seemed super high ($450 is more typical) but I went with it anyway because I didn't have time to find someone else. When the invoice came, they charged almost $1300! WAY higher than I've ever paid for taxes. The same thing happened to my dad. Luckily I got them to take that amount down since they told me they wouldn't go over $800 initially, but it still seemed outrageous. If you do anything, make sure you get a quote initially so you can protect yourself when they try to charge you an arm and a leg! I'm now using a new accountant who is world's better, and he's informed me that Adam's & Petersen did something wrong on my return last year. Now I just have to hope the IRS doesn't decide to look at it. It's incredibly frustrating when I spent so much money and they even messed it up. I'm so glad I didn't use them again. I've worked with a lot of different accountants and every other one has been a world's better experience. Please save yourself a lot of frustration and find someone else.

I was (past tense) with AP CPAs for over a decade. But it's just gone down hill as they've grown…read more Their process is cumbersome, at best, and their costs are high. The last few years they've also shifted to holding your tax return hostage and wanting payment up front, but NOT telling you even how much that is. The messaging is very passive-aggressive, like "here is your tax return, we won't file it until you pay us" and then they don't explain how to make a payment, other than "go to our website." Yet, on the website they want a customer ID and the payment amount, which, they didn't tell you! I had to drag that information out of them. It's crazy. On top of that, I did virtually all of the prep this year, giving them everything in an itemized spreadsheet and ready to go. They just had to do some data entry. I didn't even have much complexity to things this year. Yet it's a $1250 bill -- checking online for industry standard rates and it's still in the $750-$800 range, so I'm not sure how they even can justify such a thing. I asked them for an accounting of the time spent behind the cost, and they refused to give it (ironic, I know, from an accounting firm), and instead said maybe I should just find somebody else next year. Well, that was already my plan. Being told to take a hike for having the gall to ask them to account for where their costs are coming from, the rising costs, difficult to use website, lack of transparency on costs and billing, and overall: it's just not worth it anymore. All that being said, I think all the individual people there are pretty nice to work with, and I feel bad with such a negative review. It's just that the overall experience in the end is frustrating as all get out. Not to mention the high cost and lack of transparency in billing.

The good: They do good work. I've had excellent tax help from them every time. Getting the most…read morerefund possible. In fact, the one time I didn't use them because they were full, I ended up paying a ton of taxes. Dale is absolutely fantastic. He's what keeps us going there. The not so good: they take a long time. They're not great at communicating when they're super busy during tax season (but REALLY great communicating the rest of the year). They will not deliver on the expected date, but it will all get handled eventually.

Notice the trend here: very poor reviews with West Accounting responding how it isn't their fault…read more Bottom line is, they are absolutely terrible, unorganized, mismanaged, and apparently overrun by too much on their plate--basically all the characteristics you look to avoid in selecting an accountant. Went in the middle of February for my appointment. I was new in town and asked a friend who he used for accounting (he has since fired West Accounting and profusely apologized to me for sending me there). My appointment was to set up a new LLC and get advice on starting a new business. During the appointment, Reed West asked if I wanted them to also do my taxes as I said that would be fine. A month passes. No word. I call and they say it will be a couple more days. Another two weeks pass. No word. I'm emailing, I'm calling, nothing. Finally an email from Reed: we are too busy with tax season to deal with the LLC, will get that after tax season ends. In the meantime, I FINALLY get my taxes back the night before the deadline--basically no time to review anything. It took two months to do my taxes, all the while I'm stressing because they suck at communicating. Jump ahead a month and I go into the office to pick up my source documents to take them to another accountant to redo my taxes and finally get my LLC set up (he did it in 10 minutes while I was sitting there), and West Accounting couldn't find my source docs because they are so frickin unorganized. I had to come back three days later to give them time to look for them. Hey, it's your choice. Go here if you want, but please read the reviews and think long and hard about it. There are wayyyyyy better options!!! And since I'm still sitting in their parking lot writing this review, if any of you do feel so inclined to still walk and trust your finances to these clowns, tell them to hire a landscaper. Their exterior is an exact replica of the mess you can expect to find on the inside as well. Good luck.
