I was surprised to see so many negative reviews concerning Dr. Lipson. My experience with him dates back to 2023 when I was diagnosed with severe spinal stenosis in the L4,L5 lumbar regions and was having moderate to severe pain down through my right buttocks. After trying P/T, various pain drugs, and spinal epidermal shots, all of which provided no relief, I started to visit some neuro surgeons. The first three I visited all said spinal fusion was my only option. Having two relatives who had spinal fusion in which the recovery period was about one year and they were still experiencing some pain and now had limited mobility, I decided I wanted to avoid fusion if at all possible. Dr. Lipson was the fourth surgeon that I visited and after Xray, CT and MRI tests he determined that he could help me without the need for fusion or major surgery. In December, 2023, as an outpatient at Morristown Medical center he performed two minimally invasive surgical procedures: L4/L5 Hemilaaminotomy/Foraminotomy which opened up space in my vertebrae for the nerves that were being compressed. He also implanted a titanium Intralaminar Coflex spacer between my L4/L5 spinal regions which pushed apart the two vertebra to relieve pressure on my nerves. I went home the same day and except for some minor stiffness which persisted for about 8 weeks my pain was gone. By avoiding fusion I was able to maintain my full range of spinal motion, my recovery period was extremely short and I was able to resume my normal activities such as walking, hiking, snow removal, kayaking etc. without pain and within three weeks of my operation. I have had no reoccurrence of any pain since. I am now seeing Dr. Lipson again to get his opinion on some cervical spine issues I'm having in which the previous surgeon that I visited said fusion was my only option and that I would lose some neck mobility and the recovery period would be months. I should add that I found all his staff members, especially his surgical coordinator, to be extremely courteous and professional. read more

I have had lower lumbar issues forever from earlier days as an athlete. Dr. Lipson is world class as is his team. He only operates when it is necessary. He has operated on two (2) of my friends L4/L5 and C2/C3 and they swear by him... can't say enough good things. read more

I saw him for a pain pump, instead he said I wouldn't put that in my wife and convinced me to do the thoracic stimulator. So He placed that in me. I took a bad fall and saw him that. I told him and he said that device is strong and couldn't break as one foot was out the door! I was getting shocked so badly and he did nothing. I saw another surgeon who took the cracked device out while the wire had migrated all over including getting stuck in the device. That's what caused the horrific shocks. She couldn't believe he didn't check it. Because Lipson wanted to replace it. I told him I wanted it out. He said no he wouldn't take it out that I needed to have it replaced. I said no! Take it out! He then said if I didn't replace it he will never operate on me again. I went to urgent care due to my ribs hurting. I was told I had fractured 2 of them from the fall! So, I saw another neurosurgeon and she gladly removed it and put a pain Pump in me. Best decision of my life!! My pain is under control now no thanks to Dr Lipson!!!! read more

Recently, I had the opportunity to interact again with Dr. Lipson's staff at IGEA Brain & Spine in Union, NJ. I have been a patient of Dr. Lipson's since 2009. I've had two surgeries (last one 11 years ago), required follow-ups inclusive of physical therapy (offsite), and additional completion of paperwork, as needed over the last 15 years. I can only say that each and every time, each and every staff person, and of course Dr. Lipson, have been keenly professional, knowledgeable and considerate. Dr. Lipson always spends time thoroughly discussing my health, any procedures and most importantly listening to me. No matter what my concerns over the years, Dr. Lipson never acted like I was just another patient but someone whose life and health matters. Shannon and Michelle as well as other office staff, Physicians Assistants etc. could not be more empathetic and helpful. The reality is that had I initially seen Dr. Lipson sooner, surgery may have very well been prevented. He took a bad situation for me after I had been suffering with unbearable pain while seeing an orthopedist, enduring epidurals, taking pain meds over a lengthy period of time, and turned it around for me. I'm watching a documentary about a neurosurgeon who has been indicted and got life in prison. This is what I think of dr. Lipson. 4 years ago he attempted to install an Abbott device so my level of pain could be reduced. I could go on and on about the office staff being awful. But really it's also the dr. He is always busy running from hospital to hospital. He doesn't remember what was discussed in prior appts. When I woke up from the procedure I had a numb foot. He was unable to install the device at the level where we discussed. He kept saying it would go away. 4 years later and it never did go away. The numb foot spread up the leg. I had him remove the device. He told me to never have spine surgery again and walked out the door. No dr, I won't but it will not be with you. Firstly, if I can advise anyone, don't go to a surgeon who comes up in google with about 10 different facilities. That is how they make a ton of $ and not care about the patient. Go to a well respected hospital, preferably in ny or a large city. read more

I started my journey with this office in january of 23. It is now september 23. Dr. Lipson uses a call center that sounds like it is in the far east. I got lost on my first trip to one of his offices in hazlet called called and called to get assistance. He was recommendated to me by a friend of mine so on her advice attempted to gwt an appointment. I could go on forever about the incopotence of this facility. Met with the dr. Twice. Didnt pull up my mri or reports to go over recommended surgery that would most likwly make my spine more unstable and require a fusion down the road. I later received information about a device that might work for me when i called the sales people i was informed that dr. Lipson was one of the recommended surgeons. Great i thought. In the meantime scheduler from his office called. Tried to get back in touch with her to no avail. I thought manage to have this surgery and then id be on my own. Hes on vacation..ezcuse after excuse after excuse. As i left his union office i saw an elderly women hunched over a walker i felt so bad helped her inside and thought to myself is that u a year fron now? I agree with the other reviewer he may be a brilliant surgeon but cut down on the offices stop planning your next vacation and start caring about your patients...i think i may have dodged a bullet.As for my friend she now has a rod inher leg at 46 years old. He want money and wants to install devices to make more money. He has carpool tunnel in his surgery hand. It shakes. Once the surgery is done he won't meet you because he knows it has been bad, 3 out of 5 times his surgeries are a failure. read more

Well..I feel the need to post that this "life altering surgery"..I was told my quality of life would be fantastic. Well..the pump was placed too deep. My Dr..needs to fish for the port. In the unsecured pump. I have anxiety every time a fill is done..and all my Dr can say " I'm so sorry..I'm so sorry". Thank GOD he is competent. This surgery was nothing short of a hack job. My journey with this practice began in January 2023. I requested an appointment on line and was contacted by (a virtual assistant). Appointment set for January 24, 2023 or so I thought. The day of my appointment a REAL LIVE human being called me to say I actually didnt have an appointment. All dressed ready to call an Uber as I have difficulty driving. Anyway fast forward I was told appointment were months out...MONTHS. My girlfriends insisted he was an excellent surgeon so on her advice I persisted. MAY 30th appt. obtained in Hazlet office never offered till I insisted. I got lost...called called and called . No one would answer. I was about to turn around when I said ok let me try this building....low and behold it was the correct office...No signs no direction..Met with Dr. Lipson about 5 minutes ordered MRI of another part of my spine. OK next appt. June 26. Met with Dr. Lipson in Union this time. About 10 minute discussion maybe.... Even though he did not put my MRI's up for review. We decided on a surgical option. He gave an opinion out the door he went. So I stand there no direction. We will call you is about all I got. In the meantime I was reading about a device that supposedly was used to prevent a lumbar disc from reherniation. I contacted the company and lo and behold...they recommended Dr. Lipson...hmm I had a consult with him yesterday I explained the device was never brought up Great...well I could go on and on..I was called to schedule the procedure..dont miss a phone call you will never be able to get anyone back. The person I keep getting sounds like an offshore answering service...now it was making sense why I was left stranded trying to find the office. Well getting to the point it is now August and I have been dealing with Igea Brain and Spine since January. I have nothing scheduled I cant get through to a human being. My condition is being treated like a tooth extraction not spinal surgery. I received a message the Dr. is away but you can call to talk to his assistant? This is MY SPINE. Dr Lipson may be the best surgeon on the planet but if this is how the practice is run...I say run. I dont feel like a patient I feel like an insurance payment.....Maybe its blessing in disguise. Highly recommend Dr. Lipson! Not only did he successfully remove my brain tumor, but he saved my LIFE not once, but twice! In the middle of me having a seizure, ambulance got him on the phone, and he rerouted me to the hospital where he was and made sure I had a room when I got there, since they were telling my family they were fully booked. Got to the hospital, went in for emergency surgery and I am lucky enough to be sitting here typing! I was not able to walk, now i'm able to walk and type. Thank you Dr. Lipson! God bless. read more
