I ended up with a 3/4 acoustic classical style (that I still have) I was a 17 year old kid with 80 bucks in my pocket. He took the black electric guitar and amp back without any questions and proceeded to help me. He took the time to explain the differences between various acoustic guitars. He suggested something smaller with a wider neck and nylon strings to make it easier to learn. I left Oklahoma a year later and have lived all over the country and have been in hundreds of music stores. Since then, I have bought, sold and worked on dozens of guitars learning as much as I can along the way. I always remembered Mike's kindness. I came back to Muskogee for a week to help my parents out. I brought my little Blackstar Carry On electric travel guitar with me but found myself without any picks, a tuner, or a capo. So I looked to see if Square Deal was still around and sure enough it was. So I popped back in expecting to get in and out. I made a bee-line for the wall of accessories (i get easily distracted in music stores) and when Mike was done helping another customer, he came by and asked if I needed help. He hooked me up right away. But man, this guy loves what he does and he loves and appreciates his customers. We talked for a good 30 minutes about everything from travel, work, and of course guitars. He knows his stuff. He told me that his goal is that anyone off the street can get a good quality instrument that is affordable. And man, do they have some cool guitars in there. I told him that I remembered his kindness from years ago and you could tell that meant the world to him. This guy makes you feel like you've known each other for years. I walked in looking for a few accessories and walked out feeling grateful that there are still good, decent people in the world like Mike that run businesses that care about their customers. 10,000% recommend Square Deal.

As…read moreI'm new to the state/area, I had no idea this place existed, we went into the little mall where it's located, and noticed this little gold mine, and was beyond surprised. Outside the store(inside the mall), is a fully equipped stage, gig ready, because they jam there all the time apparently, and encourage anyone to stop by and jam, which I hope to do soon. The shop was closing for the day, but the manager(I believe), insisted that we come in and check it out, so we did. This guy was the coolest, nicest guy you'd ever meet, showed us around, extremely knowledgeable, and not pushy. If there are any musicians passing near Duncan, I would highly recommend stopping at this place, it is literally my new favorite music store, ranks up there with the best, and i'll travel 30 miles to come here. For it's size, I'd be surprised if any level guitarist couldn't find any equipment they've been looking for. ~ two thumbs up

Usually guitar stores just let you browse and buy strings without input. While we were in there I scanned the acoustics... Laid eyes on an Hummingbird Rosewood, which I had never seen, and gave it a couple minutes... Then bought the strings and went on. On the way back through the other way a week later I was compelled to drop in again to see that guitar... She sounded nice! I spoke for a couple minutes with Evan Pettit who is, I think, the manager. We had a brief negotiation and I walked out with a really nice guitar at a fair price. I could not be more pleased with the level of service and professionalism of both Evan and that store. I love browsing guitar stores and though I live 1400 miles away I do drive through Oklahoma a couple times a year. I imagine I will be stopping in again. You folks are lucky to have a great local music store like this.

There's maybe one person there who genuinely wants to help, but most others either brush you off or try to push expensive products you didn't ask about instead of answering your question. My most recent experience was the final straw. I dropped off my $1,200 guitar for a simple setup on a Saturday. I was told it would be ready by Wednesday, which seemed like a perfectly reasonable timeline. The tech even mentioned he'd call me if anything else came up that needed attention. On Wednesday, I called to check on it. After waiting five minutes on hold (which is about standard for this location), I was transferred to the tech. I explained who I was and asked if my guitar was ready. Instead of a simple update, I got: "If I haven't called you, it's not ready." Delivered in a tone that felt dismissive and unprofessional. He went on to say I was third in line and it could be tomorrow or the next day. I want to be clear: I understand sometimes things take longer than expected. That's not unreasonable. What was unreasonable was the attitude. A better response would have been something like, "I haven't been able to get to it yet, but I'm planning on finishing it tomorrow or the next day." Instead, I was made to feel like I was wrong for even calling to check on the instrument I entrusted to them. This has been a consistent theme at this location: poor communication, expensive pricing, and timelines that rarely match what was promised. Given this, I don't plan on bringing my instruments here again. I would strongly recommend looking at other local music shops that value their customers, communicate clearly, and actually want to help musicians instead of making them feel like an inconvenience.

Went here cause my mother in law wanted to get my youngest a beginner book on how to play the…read moreukulele. Not to bad of customer service when you first walk in, helped us out right away. Very attentive off the bat and helped my son tune his ukulele. After we asked where the beginners books were they pretty much minded there on business and never really checked on us which I thought was odd. As far as price goes, it's a music shop right off the Main Street so you can expect too pay a good price but not an arm and a leg unless you wanna go big. Overall not a bad place.
