I am a patient at the Glendale location, but wanted to share my review here as well with hopes of reaching anyone who has questions about the Acupuncture process and/or the wonders of Dr. Joukar. So with that, end your search for an Acupuncturist here! Dr. Joukar, who I jokingly refer to as 'cousin,' is a one-in-a-million type of man and health care professional. I have an internal fight with myself as a part of me wants to gate keep this incredible team and the other part of me wants to share Dr. Joukar's magic with everyone. Upon my first visit, I really had no idea what to expect. I was nervous, had way too many questions, and I was a little skeptical about acupuncture and the wonders it can do for one's body, both physically and mentally. Dr. Joukar is so KIND and has the best bed side manor I have ever experienced with a doctor in my entire life. He does not rush you, he makes you feel heard & taken care of, he consoles you in the sweetest of ways during the emotional release of energy your body is experiencing, (yes this happens), and he always finds a way to put a smile on your face when you step in to his office. I always leave happier than when I arrive and that is saying a lot when visiting a doctor, especially one who specializes in needles. I unfortunately cannot share a comparison of Dr. Joukar to other Acupuncturists, because after I found him and started my weekly visits, my search ended there. One and done! What to expect upon your first visit: - Make sure to explain any pains or discomfort you may be experiencing, (back pain, neck pain, depression, issues breathing, anxiety, body swelling, acne, etc.). I would suggest taking the pamphlet Dr. Joukar offers and Email him a detailed breakdown of everything your body is experiencing using his target areas. I did this, and upon my next visit he had my email printed in my file and he was using it as a guide to target all of my troubled areas. I can tell he thoroughly went through everything because he highlighted specific areas where I described pain for his personal reference. And take it from me, it was a dense Email. - Is it painful? Answer: not at all. 97% of the time, you do not even feel the needle. I'm not sure if this is normal because I have no previous Acupuncturist to compare to or if this is a testament to how gentle Dr. Joukar is with his patients. Sometimes he will add pressure in three areas counting 1, 2, or 3, and he will ask which areas are the most painful and in return you tell him which number you felt the most pressure. This helps him determine where he will place the needles. - Once the needles are placed, BREATHE! - And try to stay still. Once the needles are placed, if you make sudden or big movements, you will feel a sharp cramping in the body part that you are moving. I recommend closing your eyes and listen to the music provided. If you need anything while you are in resting position, make sure to tell Dr. Joukar and he will assist you. You typically lay either face down or face up on a massage-like table with the needles in place for about 20-25 mins. Dr. Joukar will periodically check on you to make sure you're okay. - After your resting time is up, Dr. Joukar removes the needles (100% painless) and you will start to feel the improvements of your body over time. For me, I started to notice visible changes around 6 visits. The most noticeable being cramping/tightness in my calves and appetite suppressants. Yes - you can utilize acupuncture for weight loss. The last thing I want to touch up on is the efficiency and kindness of the office staff. These ladies learn your name and really make you feel welcome. Scheduling is painless, and insurance authorizations are swiftly taken care of so not to disrupt your healing journey. I cannot praise this team more. Experience it for yourself! I highly recommend Dr. Mehrdad Joukar for acupuncture. After a lifetime of digestive/stomach issues and chronic IBS I researched and learned that acupuncture can be incredibly effective at treating symptoms and conditions. Dr. Joukar is a very kind, patient, and thorough Accupuncturist who is in tune with his skills. I have been receiving acupuncture therapy for approximately two years now on and off. I receive two sessions per month, pending my insurance, which usually adds two more appointments per month, totaling four each month. My ailments include sciatica, hip imbalance, and insomnia. Other ailments include sporadic joint pain and stiffness, specifically in my neck, head, and shoulder region. I am convinced that with every appointment, somehow, Dr. Joukar is aware of where to place the needles for the part of my body that needs them. Within an hour or so, after a session, pending adequate hydration and nourishment, I am able to differentiate between how my body felt before versus after. I know that recovery and healing take time, so every session moving forward is a step towards more flexibility and mobility. I recommend this treatment for anyone suffering from mild pain, stiffness, lack of mobility, and flexibility. Acupuncture is sometimes scoffed at and scrutinized due to it not being conventional in "Western medicine," but the more opportunities for alternatives can lead to new unexpected results and progress. Hi.. I came to the Acupuncture Help Center with many health issuse around the 1st of the year. I had exhausted all other forms of relief (with no such luck) but had always wanted to try acupuncture. Originally my insurance didn't cover acupuncture but they made an exception due to my high pain and limited mobility. My first impressions of the Acupuncture Help Center were very positive. I had about 5 sessions of acupuncture with a different acupuncturist before in which I didn't notice improvement or difference in the pain of my hands. Then i switch and started treatment with Dr. Mehrdad Joukar, his approach to acupuncture is different and very effective from the point in which he starts his patients to take deep BREATHS and RELAX with calming music in the background, i was shook by the PLACEMENT and DEPTH of the needles which i BELIEVE HELPED greatly with the INFLAMMATION and PAIN, and to add to that he connects electric current to upper and lower limbs. Dr. Joukar is highly recommended for treatment since he is never in a rush, always calm , very effective , offers alternatives and could possible work as your psychologist for other disorders such as sleep, anxiety, depression. Dr. Joukar has been instrumental in my recovery. His Acupuncture treatment has assisted me on my journey to a full and complete recovery. I never had Acupuncture before his treatment and will admit was skeptical about non traditional western customs. I truly believe in the healing powers of Acupuncture especially with Dr. Joukar who is the best doctor who always made me feel comfortable with good bedside manners, humor and very kind. I went to acupuncture for tinnitus and acoustic trauma and it helped both tremendously. I was extremely dark and depressed about my tinnitus and I asked the doctor if it helped and he said of course! I barely hear it anymore and a lot of people don't know how effective acupuncture is for it so I really recommend. I also had a chronic migraine everyday for years and it wasn't until I had acupuncture and Chinese herbs that I had an immense amount of progress. I went to the Acupuncture Help Center for post breast surgery issues specifically pain from scar tissue and the scar tissue itself also for chronic arthritis pain. After several treatments the pain was greatly relieved and in some areas eliminated. My arthritic knees were able to climb upstairs without the usual intense stiffness and achy pain. That put a smile on my face. Dr. Joukar is very kind, understanding and very knowledgeable. Always courteous and listens to me when I share whats going on with particular issues that need help, which is greatly appreciated. Would give 6 stars if it was possible. I was looking for acupuncturists, and Yelp was a very useful tool for finding one. I found Dr. J's background as a medical researcher at USC and as a primary care doctor in Iran very impressive and made him stand out. He is also a very sociable person and it is very easy to get along with him. I have issues with my sinuses, and Dr. J's acupuncture treatment helped alleviate issues I was dealing with. I also had some pain in my foot which was also alleviated by his treatment. Dr.Mehrdad Joukar, is an awesome DOCTOR! ! I was going to have a Gout flare up, my feet felt it coming. I went to see Dr.Joukar, & just with 1 session, I felt a huge relief! I went back the following day, and my gout pain is completely gone! ! ! I am terrified of needles but the needles that are used now are very small. I have had several physical therapy sessions in the past with minimal results. My doctor recommended I try acupuncture. To be honest a little nervous at first but Dr. Joukar has made my experience very pleasant.
