For the past five years, I have been struggling with balance issues and neuropathy in my hands and…read morefeet. MDs that I had consulted had prescribed medication, but nothing had helped. I found Balance Wellspace Integrative Medicine, which advertised that it helped with these issues. After reading the reviews and researching the company, I scheduled a preliminary consultation to see if they could help me with my problems. I told them that I had been struggling with this for over five years and explained that traditional medicine offered no answers. The team at the center conducted an evaluation and provided me with an 8-week plan consisting of three sessions per week. While there was no guarantee that their treatments would help, they led me to believe that they had treated others with similar conditions. They cited cases in which other patients had resumed an active life and engaged in activities such as playing golf. After faithfully attending each session, I noticed no change in my symptoms or function, which was a clear sign that the treatments were ineffective. I believe that they should have known, following their initial evaluation, that they wouldn't be able to do anything with their treatments that would actually work for me. I invested a great deal of time and money in what appears to be an empty promise. While I know there was no guarantee, I want to warn others before they put time and money into an empty promise.

I've been having weekly massages with Kate for 6 weeks or so now, and I cannot recommend her…read moreenough. Massage is critical for my health, as I've got a disabling chronic illness that keeps me quite sedentary (and with a hyper-sensitive nervous system and low pain tolerance). I've had monthly massage as part of physical therapy, for years- but since March 2020 I hadn't had a single one. So I was in pretty bad shape when I first went to Kate. And by the end of my 60-minute session, my chronic pain was so far reduced by her skill, I almost wept with relief. She's not the cheapest massage therapist I've ever had- but she's by far the best, and worth every penny. Even days when I'm not in pain, I can feel the difference after her massage. And she varies her technique and focus based on how I'm feeling as well as her own expertise. Every massage with her has made a noticeable difference in my body, for the better. She's also very personable and calm, doesn't try to chat at me during the massage, and has created a calming, welcoming environment with her studio (from the electric fireplace to the music, to the warming massage table, the cleanliness of the space, the plants and crystals, etc.) Her cupping machine is interesting, and her massage lotion is great for my dry, sensitive skin. She's a very positive, kind person (as well as being observant) and clearly is continuing to develop her considerable skill. I'm so grateful she's practicing in Roanoke, and will continue to get regular massage from her for as long as she's here.

Firstly, the massage therapist wore gloves, which was odd, and didn't feel too nice. Secondly, she didn't focus on my head and neck as asked. She mainly did my upper back, and worked out knots in between my shoulder blades, which was painful. I know it's tense, it always will be from my job... when I want a Swedish, please stop trying to do a deep tissue. It hurts and it leave feeling angry because I wanted to relax, not feel pain. She also hardly did my scalp and neck at all, and that was the ONE place she didn't apply pressure. I'll continue my search for somewhere else.

I have not had a massage of this caliber in YEARS, and now all I can do is lament that I don't live closer (got this massage on a visit to Roanoke). I got the Swedish/Deep Tissue combo because I wanted something familiar and the barefoot thing sounded odd... I wasn't sure how it would work. Now I am 100% confident that I will see Melanie every time I go to Roanoke (partner's parents live there). Next time I am going to try the barefoot work. I truly never thought I would find another massage therapist of this caliber before, and all I want to do is go back, but I am already back in the Washington D.C. area. Thanks Melanie! I can't wait to book another session, whenever that might be!!

I am so glad I met Victoria when I did because I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia soon after. If you're familiar with fibro, you know it has a million symptoms and isn't easily treated with meds or anything else. Living with fibro is often hellish, and acupuncture is one of the few things that helps a number of symptoms. One thing I especially value about Victoria is that she's knowledgeable about Western medicine as well. I've had natural health practitioners who knew nothing about my meds or even encouraged me to go off them (!), but Victoria isn't like that at all. Having fibro is one of the worst things that's happened to me, and I do often feel hopeless and discouraged by the lack of treatment options. I don't know what I'd do without Victoria helping to at least settle my symptoms so I can get some peace.

What a pleasure to have a medical care provider who spends more than 10 minutes with a patient…read moregetting to KNOW her and her overall health needs instead of a rushed interview followed by prescribing a pill and moving on to the next in line! Western medicine, where practitioners are mostly focused on whichever organ the doctor specializes in while ignoring how every other body part or system interacts with it, is definitely the way to go when you already know exactly what the problem is. But when you have a multisystem disorder or something doctors can't quite identify, you need an approach that focuses on the entire body, mind, and spirit as one entity with a goal of achieving overall balance, not just patchwork. Chinese Medicine takes the "whole person" approach, which makes it the perfect complement to Western medicine for me.
