This hospital recently changed ownership (December 2015) and the changes must have been dramatic based on the previous (terrible) reviews of this place. My experiences included new vets, new technology, excellent customer service, suburban prices, and have been well worth the drive from Newton (about 35 minutes) to get this quality of care. I really can't say enough about the staff, from their courteous first touch when I called and cheerful helpfulness, to the techs (who my dog just loved), to the vet we got. This place represents itself well as a state of the art facility for everything short of major surgery. I have taken my full sized poodle puppy there twice this month: once to be spayed and once because she had diarrhea after eating some rubber bands. Both incidents required really prompt service, and we got that (same day on accident, next day on spay), and when the rubber band removal required major surgery we got a referral and our records transferred electronically to the surgery hospital faster than we could drive over. The spay surgery they did was neat and the dog was up and bouncing off the walls the next morning (despite the silly collar). Did I mention the dog enjoys going there? No fear at all. A bonus: they made some insurance referrals we took (the rubber band removal was a couple of thousand dollars), so we actually have a solution to manage our pets care and associated costs going forward. I really feel that we got good counsel and great care and that this place is worth the drive from the city where clinics are few and far between and don't really work that hard for your business. read more

This practice is warm, welcoming, patient and knowledgeable. We have a very active, very into everything lab puppy. Recently he swallowed garbage that included some dangerous items and they squeezed him in at 430 on a Friday for what I'm sure they thought would be a quick "puke it up" appointment. .... except my guy refused to puke for hours . I'm sure everyone just wanted to go home. They could've told me to come pick him up and bring him to the ER but they didn't . They stayed with him lovingly until he got it all up, and then patiently explained next steps to me when it was finally all over even though at that point it was well after closing (did I mention it was Friday??) There also was zero guilt given to me as an overwhelmed puppy mom. We just love this place and feel so lucky to have found it. read more

I found a stray cat in my backyard who was pregnant and went into labor in my home. She delivered one live kitten and continued to unsuccessfuly labor for over 12 hours. I was lucky to get the name/number for Dr. Flessas at Acton Animal Hospital, who made a house call and determined the mother cat was in severe distress. Dr. Flessas saved the mother that day and she is now living her best life with her son. Dr. Flessas and the staff at Acton Animal Hospital have continued to provide compassionate care to my cats for over four years now. I am always amazed at how patient they are with me and so many other animals and their owners at every visit. The office and rooms are always clean and inviting with adorable art work. I would highly recommend Acton Animal Hospital. read more

The staff here is rude and unhelpful. We brought our new puppy here when we first got him and our first puppy visit was stressful and unhelpful. They gave us very little information and did not make us feel comforted that we were giving our new puppy proper care. We immediately switched to a different vet 40 minutes away that we have been SO much happier with. Then we called Acton Animal Hospital in a crisis when we needed to get prescription food for our puppy during a blizzard and couldn't get to our normal vet. Our vet had sent over a prescription for the food. Acton Animal Hospital was incredibly rude and refused to help us get the food we needed. They said they would never do this and told me that I should have never called them and hung up on me. We now have to make it 40 minutes away in a snow storm to get food for our sick puppy. I would not recommend this animal hospital. read more

I specifically told the scheduler what my pet's needs were, why I was interested in making an appointment and she confirmed who the Dermatologist was that I made an appointment with. Taking responsibility for your employee/website error would be the right way to go. Not assuming your potential client was mistaken. By the way, needed an Ophthalmologist instead. Neat, clean, office; friendly, efficient staff and knowledgeable veterinarians. Everyone here is caring and compassionate. The hours are flexible and I have often gotten same-day or next-day appointments. Acton Animal hospital has also helped me avoid some office visits by letting me bring in samples on my own, which really helps with my budget. I prefer the "bed side manner" of Dr. Johnston to Dr. Geisert. Dr. Johnston explains issues so that I have fewer questions. Geisert can come off a little brusque, but she is efficient and happily answers questions when I ask. Both are very smart and have helped me through several complicated cat issues. read more

When I heard my Vet's office was being sold, I was concerned. My concern was all for nothing... I LOVE THEM! Did you hear me? I LOVE them! They care for my 12 year old Spencer and my 6 month old Zsa Zsa...and me. They care about me, too, and making me the best pet parent I can be. When I need to get a quick appointment they work with me to find a time. They give me options for care instead of jumping to expensive tests and imaging. I get the straight answers for all my questions, none are silly to them. I tell everyone about them, at every opportunity. So here I am, once again, telling everyone on here...TRY THEM!! read more

I have to say that I am extremely shocked the way this hospital runs there practice and Practices medicine. I recently brought my dog for a check up and complained he was not feeling well. They told me he was fine and ignored his pain. I later brought to get a second opinion at another hospital and it turns out he had a tumor and we had to put him to sleep. I would not recommend any one to bring there animal to Acton animal hospital they have no bedside manner and the staff sucks. read more

The atmosphere is seemingly friendly, the receptionist will chat you up, and it is clear everyone here loves animals. I brought in my 11 week old Malshi puppy in for his wellness exam. The vet I saw was Dr. Geisert who I at first believed was very friendly and open, however I was incorrect. While she take very good care of my puppy, she did not like to be challenged in her views as a vet. Prior to getting a puppy, I did extensive research as to what diet and lifestyle was best for my puppy. When the matter of vacations was brought up I became a little apprehensive, because of the research that has been done to show that pumping your dog full of vaccines can be potential harmful, as well as which vaccines are necessary. When I took a peek at the vaccine schedule for my 7 lb small dog. I was a little worried. When I brought up my opinion, Dr. Geisert immediately went on a tangent explanation on her opinion. Not only did she not openly accept what I had to say and listen, she continued throughout the appointment to bash it. Bringing up irrelevant points, such has opinion on people who believe vaccinations in humans cause autism. While I understand she is a professional, I feel she could have gone about dealing with my hesitation in much more polite manner. In the end, she grudgingly agreed that if I didn't want to give my dog certain vaccinations there wasn't anything she could do about it. At the end of the appointment she said that as a vet we should be a team to do what is best for the puppy. While I very much agree with that statement, I don't agree with her style as a vet. She bashes holistic medicine, as well as raw food diets. In the end, my puppy did get the care that was needed and it was done well. However, if you are a person who has knowledge about over-vaccinating, holistic medicine, and raw food diets. This is definitely not the vet for you. All in all, I think I will search for a more open-minded veterinary. read more

Ok, I just reviewed last week with my female dog, now I have to review for my 11 y.o. Male dog. We do live in Acton, my profile has our old FL location. Today we called Acton Animal Hospital at 8:00 am when we woke up to find our 11 y.o. Flat coated retriever would not eat, drink, or even get up. On further inspection he had a huge lump in his throat and was drooling phlem. The office told me to bring him in. (I later found out it was surgery day and so the animals there for surgery were being delayed while they tended to our dog). Dr. Flessas (whom I love if you read my last post), took my dog back, got his temperature, gave me a couple of options of what she thought was going on and how we could proceed. We ended up draining some of the fluid and looking at it under a microscope. It was full of bacteria but nothing to indicate at this time it might be a tumor nor did it feel like a tumor. Again I was given options for TX. We chose to take our dog home where he would be most comfortable rather than stay at the vet with an IV. We got an antibiotic, pain killers, and chose a shot for nausea. Dr flessas recommended canned, soft dog food that he might be able to swallow. She sold me 3 cans so I did not have to stop at the store. Dr. Flessas impressed on me if my dog seemed to be worse, continued not to eat or drink, or I had any concerns to bring him back today. He has a follow up for Friday morning. I got him to eat some rice, (So I could give him the pain Med) drink some water and now he is sleeping. I would not go anywhere else!!! read more

I have been a client of this practice ever since the Carlisle Animal Hospital closed many years ago. The superb care provided and the wonderful staff kept both me and my golden retriever very happy for over 12 years. This week, however, nature took its course and Murphy became acutely ill - refusing food, lethargic, weak and clearly failing. When I contacted the vet, they cleared the schedule for me to bring him in, but when we tried, he was too weak to move. To my astonishment, within 20 minutes of my calling to say we couldn't make it, Dr Flessas and her assistant were at my door. After a detailed discussion of what was probably going on (internal bleeding due to a hemagiosarcoma) and possible interventions and their liklihood of succes plus my personal feelings about how to deal with the situation, we decided to put him to sleep. Right at home, with me cradling his head in my hands. It breaks my heart to even write this, but I must share my experience so that others will know what a kind, compassionate and caring vet leads this practice. read more

I would give 5 stars for dr Johnston and dr cloherty, and for the front desk (Stephanie and Debbie). They are simply amazing and have seen us through many many years with both cats and dogs. However, I was very disappointed after my last visit with the new owner and vet dr flessas. She was rough with my dogs (they were limping when they got home, but did recover by the next day), and the unusually hard-sell on the flea and tick medications. I was also left feeling like she wasn't all that fond of my animals. There was almost no interaction with them and it was feeling kind of inhuman. Just going through the motions. Also, I noticed that she was not all that kind to her staff. Stephanie and Debbie are fast, professional, and so friendly to be around. I hope I was catching this on a bad day, but if I wasn't - here's some advice. Treat your employees well, respect them and they will make your business-without them, you don't have a business. Also the front desk doesn't need the scrubs. It's misleading-they are not the techs! read more
