Compassionate, caring and experienced organization that makes every pet and owner feel special. Can't say enough nice things about the entire staff especially Dr. Leigh and Donna, when it comes to patient pet care. Thank you for all that you do and helping bring clarity to difficult decisions. We wouldn't go anywhere else. read more

Had a horrible experience with great Road veterinary Hospital in Acton gave my family an extremely hard time when tried to get a medication for our dog more interested in padding a veterinary bill instead of making money not worth going to this place. They are horrible. read more

Doctor DeMarco is the best! I have owned pets all my life and have been a part and many different practices. Dr DeMarco is the best combination of warm, friendly and kind and knowledgeable. She is the only Vet I have ever had that my pets go crazy with excitement when they see her! All the Pets love her even my finicky cat. Most importantly I've never had a doctor that consistently goes out of her way to explain things, calm my nerves, offer solid medical advice. You always feel like she is on your team and goes out of her way to be accommodating in every way. She ALWAYS goes the extra mile for her patients and always follows up and checks in. She is the Doc you can cry too when times are tough and the one who can give you straight medical advice and help you seek the best care for your pet! I highly recommend! Plus I love the techs here - they are all nice and always remeber us when we come in. All of them are thorough and kind. This place is sunny and warm and absolutely immaculate always! read more

Dr. Kelman and the other vets are VERY good with the animals themselves - the vets are very patient, calm and thorough. From a business perspective, however, Kelman's practice is less than up-front honest with the paying customers, especially those who do not have tons of money to burn. On numerous different occasions when I brought my cat Maggie in for one or another concern, Kelman would whisk her out of the exam room, away into some back room without mentioning anything about what he was doing, or where I could see and ask what was happening. He returned her with some basic recommendations and/or medications. Then not until it was time to pay at the front desk did I discover that in the back room, they had taken blood or urine samples for which I was being charged, often to the tune of $200 or more, WITHOUT ever asking me about it or verifying if I approved in advance. Worse, this continued happening after I explained to Kelman that I was experiencing financial hardship and needed to keep expenses down. His response from that point on was passive aggressive, including: - removing one charge (for unnecessary blood work) from my bill, but overcharging for the remaining urinalysis (which I had redone at a different vet for less than half Kelman's price) - urging me to get dental cleaning done ($2K and up) on a cat that was clearly in the last year of her life - refusing to consider recent test results from a different vet - continuing to send me "friendly reminders" to schedule appointments for two years after I told them I was no longer interested in their services (and my cat had died of old age!) In sum, if money is no concern and you want only the best possible treatment for your animals, Kelman & Co are great. If you need to balance genuine concern for supporting your animals' well-being and staying financially solvent yourself, you'll probably end up happier if you look elsewhere. read more

Dr.DeMarco...what a wonderful caring and extremely thorough veterinarian...My Minu wasn't as easy cat to handle and you and your wonderful vet technicians got the job done...Im so very thankful to have gotten in so quickly too..well worth the travel. Thank you so much Brandi M read more

The staff really went above and beyond to help us out during a complicated and tricky situation. I appreciate this practice so much.

We all love our pets like family. Dr. Kelman, Dr. Wu, and staff understand this and care for our pets like family. Education is key and they are excellent at communication, recommendations and follow up, I have taken my pets here as far back as the day when Dr. Smith owned the business. Our family will never forget Dr. Kelman's kindness and support when we had to say goodbye to our lovely little schnauzer Mitzy! He came in on a Sunday and stayed with us giving us comfort after our sweet pup passed on. I don't think I could ever trust another veterinarian and staff more than Great Road Veterinary Hospital. read more

We took our cat to Great Road Vet and Dr. Kelman is now caring for our puppy. They found room in their schedule when everyone was booked and they love seeing our puppy at each visit. They give great guidance and Dr. Kelman is great with all animals. It is a small practice that feels like a famiky and you know your pet is going to be getting the best care possible. I have never seen a dog so excited to go to the vet, he runs through the door. We are a little disappointed that pet owners aren't allowed in but understand the precuation, and the vet calls you while in the room examing your pet and answers all questions. They are careful to only give us enough heartworms and other meds that thry think we will need prior to our dog outgrowing them so we don't pay for wasted ones. We love Great Road and the care and time they have taken with each of our pets. read more

Love Dr. Kelman. Been using him for as long as he has had this practice. Just brought my new dog to him this week. I especially appreciate that he makes house calls when it comes to our beloved dogs making their transition. Can't express how much this means to us. My last dog was terrified going to the vet and he came out to Groton to see her. We said our tearful good byes out in the front yard and Dr. Kelman had us go into the house and he took care of her remains. Her name was Abby. It is never easy, but this made her last minutes with us at her home and surrounded by her loved ones. Thanks Dr. Kelman. Even though we moved out to Groton a few years back we still come back to Acton because of Dr. Kelman. read more

The previous review must be for Animal Emergency Care which is close to Great Road Vet. on Great Road. Great Road Vet is well great. Jonn Kelman the main vet is a very good diagnostician and surgeon and loves all animals. Have been going there for years and years. read more

We have been bringing our dog here for 8 years and have always been happy with the care he receives. Any concerns are addressed and I have never felt rushed through an appointment. Recently there have been upgrades to the facilities and communications from the staff, which is great. Their COVID precautions are excellent as well. read more

The Great Rd. Vet practice is the best Vet practice I have ever worked with. We have moved a few times and have an older cat who hates vet visits. At previous places, I was always waiting for the vet and then waiting for paperwork, etc. The visits took an hour or more. At Great Rd. Veterinary Hospital, I am able to make appointments on line and am in and out in a very short time. The vets are very good and there are enough of them to see us, even when we have an emergency. The checkout process is fast and smooth, as well as thorough. Thanks to the whole team that keeps Tiger (our cat) healthy. My wife and I appreciate it, even though he does not like visiting you! read more

I've been using Great Road vet for 18 years. Dr.Kelman has treated my dogs, cats and foster kittens. Whether it's an emergency visit or annual visit, the staff is always kind. Dr.Kelman is Unbelievably compassionate and extremely knowledgeable. I could not imagine any other vet caring for my animals. My relationship with Great Road Vet is vital and has continued to be a pleasure. read more

We've been bringing our Shar Pei to Great Road for a while now. They always provide knowledgeable and friendly care - regardless of the problem. They're also great about recommending when a procedure is appropriate and when it's really not necessary for the health and comfort of the dog. Love Dr. Hiler and how she interacts with pets and owners! read more

Great Road Veterinary Clinic is not the same as Animal Emergency Care (also on great road, and just down the street.) Dr Kelman is an excellent vet, very good with animals and doesn't push meds, vaccines or tests. Also offers generic or OTC meds instead of making a buck. They are not an emergency facility. I agree 100% that the emergency vet in Acton is a joke. I called at 2 am to tell them I was bringing my dog in for bloat and they told me he was too young to have it. If I had listened to them, he'd be dead right now. I have had really bad experiences at Tufts as well, so recommend Angel Memorial or the emergency vet in Woburn. read more

Great Vet! I had two old cats who lived to be 19 and 20.5 in no small measure because Dr Kelman treated them as valued members of my family. Each toward the end of her life had Kidney disease. He discussed with me what could be done and what made sense for me and my cats and supported us through the whole process. read more

Jon Kelman is a very compassionate, capable vet. He spends as much time as ( and more than ) one could want patiently examining and explaining. He is extremely gentle with the dogs - I have 2 chow chows - not the easiest dogs to examine - and he handles them with amazing calm. Dr.Kelman's medical knowledge is excellent and he is also open to alternate therapies . I can recommend him without reservation read more

I love this vet practice. My 13 year old Westie had excellent care for years at this wonderful place. The doctors are empathic, smart and kind. The staff is all of the above and accommodating. I will always take my future dogs here. read more

Wonderful Vets!! We have been going to Great Road Vet for many years and have always had professional, caring service for our multitude of dogs and cats. Dr. Kelman has also come to our home to minister to some of our pets when they were quite old and sick in order to comfort them as they were about to pass on. The Veterinarians at Great Road take time to make the animals feel relaxed and they always explain what they are doing. My husband and I are so happy for their care for our beloved pets. read more

Great Road Vet has been there for me and the furrier members of my family for YEARS. They've made the good times fun and the tough times manageable - I can't imagine what I would've done without the support and advice of their caring, thoughtful, and thoroughly expert staff. If you want the peace of mind that comes with knowing that your furry family members will always be loved, healthy, and cared for as much as is possible, then this is the place to take them. 5/5 Stars, they're tops. read more

I have been taking my dogs to Great Road for nearly 30 years now, and some 5 dogs later, I commend Great Road for its high standards of care and follow-through. We've had sick dogs, dogs who needed to be put to sleep, dogs who needed surgery, and we have always had excellent veterinary care from Dr. Kelman and his associates. The entire staff, including the other vets, is caring and supportive, especially with sick or dying animals. Their follow-up is thorough. I wouldn't take my dogs anywhere else. The best! read more

I have to agree with the great reviews. I've been taking my pets to Dr. Mark and now Dr. Kelman since 1998. I've had nothing but great service - and I have to say, Dr. Kelman has improved the facility 100%. When it came time to put my 13 year old Lab down, Dr. Kelman was compassionate and totally understanding. Having never been through that experience before, he walked me through every step and never once pushed me. I now have a 6 month old puppy and I would not think of going to any other vet. Just love all the staff there. It's truly a gem. read more

RUN! Dr. Kelman charges 30% more for services and testing than the new vet I found. He also enjoys excess testing costing more and more money. When my dog didn't recover from a 10 day dose of antibiotics he required sedation and x-rays for between $600-$900 dollars and wouldn't give more antibiotics for a longer period. So, we left, found a wonderful and affordable vet who put her on a double dose of antibiotics for 3 weeks and guess what? She's cured and we spent $200 and not the above price plus the real fix. So, RUN! read more

Dr. Kelman was very helpful when I was dogsitting for a friend and the dog had developed a hacking, retching cough. He reached out to several specialists to figure out what was wrong and what had to be done to help the dog. He couldn't have been more helpful and sympathetic with my situation and with the right diagnosis (lungworm!) and medication the dog improved within days. I now take my two cats to see Dr. Kelman. read more

I cannot recommend Dr. Jon Kelman highly enough. He is kind, dedicated, and goes the extra mile for the animals and their humans. I have been taking my two cats to him for 11 years, ever since he delivered their medicine to my house in a snowstorm and administered it in the front hallway! He is also a very good surgeon. If you want a vet who really cares, he's the best. read more

I've had nothing but good experiences with Great Road Vet so far. I love that they're open on Saturday and until 7 during the week so I can make appointments without taking off work. I can't say my cat is very pleased to make the trip, but every staff member has been knowledgeable and caring while taking time to explain everything, answer all my questions, and keep Oliver calm and comfortable. A great facility I would recommend to anyone. read more

We've taken our 3 dogs to Great Rd Vet over the last 6 yrs. We like the staff and all the Vets that work with Dr K. When one of our dogs was hit by a car several yrs ago, The Acton Emergency Hosp was not open until 5 pm, so Dr K referred us to an approp animal hosp that could handle the trauma in a timely manner. Based upon our experience, we'll continue to take our pets to Great Rd Vet. read more

Wonderful caring place for my small dogs. We have sent our dogs here for over 10 years. They were very senistive and helpful when I had to put my 18 year old terrier to rest. Later they sent me a cast of my dogs paw print. Thank You! read more

OK, so maybe the building could use a spruce up (inside and out) ... but don't be so quick to judge a book by it's cover...... when it comes to kindness & heartfelt compassion - Dr. Kelman & Dr. Stafford are the most gentle and attentive Vets I could have hoped for in my beloved Weimaraner's final days on this planet. We've been with the practice for several years now.... ..... Great Road Vet is not a factory. It's got that old' fashioned mom & pop business feel about it. We'd use them again in the future - when our life is blessed with another pet. (They are not staffed or equipped for dire emergencies - Go to Tufts in North Grafton or Mass Vet Referral in Woburn). read more

The physicians and staff here are very capable, caring, and hard working. I moved into town recently and one of my cats became ill quite suddenly. Dr. Kelman and the staff went out of their way to see the cat, a new patient, immediately and to care for her. When it became clear that she needed to be euthanized, he and the staff member who assisted were extremely kind, humane and supportive to both my cat and to me. Since then my other cat has received only the best care. This is an excellent, friendly and capable vet practice. read more

Dr. Kelman is an extremely caring doctor who has taken excellent care of pets my family and I have owned since he took over the practice from Dr. Smith. Since moving away from the area, I take our pets to a larger vet, and miss Dr. Kelman's honesty and kindness. Knowing you can trust your veterinarian to only recommend services you need, rather than propose countless extra services, packages and plans as your pets age is hard to find; and this practice really has the animal's best interest in mind, rather than their bottom line. read more

We have had very satisfactory service from this veterinary group for our two dogs and lone cat. We have used them for over 6 years, and moved to this group because of our dissatisfaction with another vet in the area. One dog is extremely elderly (18+), and they have ministered very carefully to her and let us know what things will cost in advance so that we can evaluate whether the expense is appropriate given her age and condition. This is not an emergency care hospital, and they have referred us to other establishments when we have needed extensive emergency care and intervention for a pet. Another reviewer has suggested that there is a financial connection between this vet and the doggie daycare operation functioning in the floor below. It is my understanding that there is no business connection between the two. read more

PLEASE NOTE! Great Road Vet is NOT the Emergency Vet which is called Animal Emergency Care but is also on Great Road. Dr. Kelman of Great Road Vet is amazing and very good with animals. He takes the time to get to know all of your pets and their idiosyncrasies. HIGHLY RECOMMEND Great Road Vet at 272 Great Road. read more

Dr. Kelman speaks fluent cat and dog. This ability has enabled him to work miracles with our pets over many years.

Thoughtful, considerate, experienced care here. I drive far to get here and it's well worth it. I've only experienced the wonderful care of Dr. Freeman, though I'm sure I wouldn't have any issues with any vet out of this practice. Love the "small home" feel of the facility too, just a great experience all around. read more

We wanted to tell everyone about the most wonderful Veterinarian, Dr. John Kelman, DVM. We started taking our pets to Great Road Veterinary Hospital back in 1984 when Dr. Smith was still owner. Dr. Kelman bought the business and we continued to take our animals there for care. We were so pleased to find that Dr. Kelman was one of the best clinicians, kind and empathetic care provider, and totally comitted to the health and well being of not just our animal family members but to the owners/caretakers as well. Dr. Kelman was so awesome when our sweet little Mitzy (the cutest mini schnauzer) began to have health problems. He was so wonderful and helped us through some very tough days. When Mitzy could no longer win her battle with illness, Dr. Kelman came in on a Sunday and helped us to say our goodbyes. I will never forget how he cared for both my husband and I when we were so distraught and greiving. Today Dr. Kelman cares for our 2 mini labradoodles Daisy and Lilly! He only gives his best to his patient's and their families. My husband and I have been medical professions for 38 years. We often wish we would meet as many wonderful "people doctors" that would rival Dr. Kelman. His staff, Vet techs, colleagues, and admin are also both caring and competent. We so highly recommend Dr. Kelman and his staff for the very best in veterinary care! read more

I can't say enough great things about Great Road Veterinary Hospital. Dr. Kelman is such a kind, gentle and knowledgeable vet. He answered all my questions thoughtfully and never rushed through any of our appointments. My dog was diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer and he has been wonderful through the whole process. All of the Vet Techs and staff go above and beyond and out of there way to be nice and helpful. The other evening, one of the staff members stayed late for me so that I could get my dogs medication and was so kind about it. If you are considering taking your pet here- don't hesitate, you won't regret it. read more
