Fresh cooked meals, loving staff, and they combine fun with education. I couldn't ask for a better second home for my son.

I hear very positive things about the school itself but what daycare (not affiliated with any…read moreschool district and partially subsidized by the City) shuts down for a whole week between Xmas and New Years, and still charges the parents for that time? And, on top of that, closes for a "teachers day" without telling the parents, and charges for it? Did it also charge the City for that week and teachers day? Daycare is not school, it is a business and needs to run like a business. As a business it has every right to close its doors but it shouldn't be charging the government or the parents for those days - that's on the owners to cover holidays, teachers days and the like.

My daughter in the 2's class, and we absolutely love the Family School. I have several friends with…read moreolder kids who attended, and they say the Family School saved their lives. Why we love TFS: - Respect: The teachers care for, respect, and get to know the kids. Everyone is a friend. Discipline is framed around setting reasonable expectations and addressing unmet needs, not shaming, judging, or punishing. - Diversity: The kids and families are diverse in every way: racially, economically, family makeup, religion, etc. About half the families pay tuition, and half are on scholarship. - Democracy: As an example, the 2's class hosted a bake sale. In circle time they voted on what to do with the proceeds, and the class decided to make a music wall. They decided together how to decorate it (multi-color stripes) and sketched out the blueprint together. They donned smocks and gloves, and everyone helped paint the music wall. As a reminder, these are 2-year-olds. - Community: TFS hosts several family events each year, including a Stone Soup Luncheon before Thanksgiving, Friendship Festival around Valentine's Day, and Farm Day in the spring. We get to hang out with the other parents, learn the songs our kids are singing in class, and engage with the teachers beyond the usual harried dropoff and pickup. Deciding on a preschool is all about finding the right fit for your family. The Family School might not be the right fit for you if you want updates throughout the day on your phone. They send home a daily sheet with meals, diaper changes, and notes about what your child did that day. Your class might get a weekly email with photos and updates, but they don't have an app or texts like some other schools. The schedule can be a challenge for working families: the earliest dropoff is 7:30, and the latest pickup is 5:15. They're also closed for two weeks in the summer and several holidays, which can also be a challenge depending on your job. Each family is expected to volunteer 24 hours per school year (e.g. wash blankets, help out around the property, attend parenting classes, assist with the auction). Overall, I am so glad my daughter attends the Family School. When I'm at work I can focus on my job, knowing she is cared for and engaging in fun, developmentally appropriate activities. She comes home singing delightful songs in English and Spanish, and her teachers and friends are positive influences in her life. We are so grateful to be part of this community.

Also, when I was applying, the director was "nice" but once I got the job her attitude changed. Very inconsiderate, very disrespectful and rude because when I was scheduled to do a "TB test" she immediately thought I did a no call no show! Then fired me. Didn't even give me a chance. I DON'T RECOMMEND THIS PLACE. (Also I tried applying again and the disrespect is through the roof!)

The professionalism and care of the staff has been exceptional, especially during the challenging economic and covid times. Margot (the director/owner) has been a great coach to us as the parents and to our daughter as she transitioned from home care to day care, walking us through what to expect as our daughter started and adapted to preschool. By the end of the first week our daughter was cheering (YAAAAAY!) when we got to school and does a stomping dance as we walk toward the entrance. We've also learned that if we pick her up during afternoon recess, she cries because she's not ready to leave. This is a great, clean, and well-organized center that our whole family appreciates. Margot runs a tight ship and you can see how much she cares by how involved she is with every classroom and coordinating drop off and pick up. We have watched out daughter grow mentally and physically as she learns to interact with other kids, follow directions, and do arts and crafts. I'd highly recommend PPP and it was a shining light standing out in the limited daycare/preschool options in midtown and we are glad to have found it.

This is a very small school that creates a close community of children that really care about each other. My son loves coming to school every day because his friends and teachers are patient, caring, and kind. He always says Mrs. Elledge and Ms. Tae are his favorite teachers. My son struggled at other schools but Mrs. Elledge welcomed him with genuine care and intention to understand him and guide him through the Montessori program. It is a school that develops the whole child and where each child is seen as an individual. This means children are taught academics at their pace, taught how to engage with their environment and classmates with respect, and where the teachers have a relationship with each child. Now that my son is going to first grade, we will always cherish the time he had at Little Lantanas and will definitely be back to visit!

No one was in the office to buzz me in through the security gate - a parent had to eventually let me in. I had to go classroom to classroom to try to locate someone to help me sign my children in for the first time. A woman named Noelle came from the school age room came in to help. I asked where the Director was, she said she was the designated Director when no one else was present. I told her that today was my first day, I was never given the security code to get in the gate, nor was there a list of what I needed to supply and bring in for my children's classroom, there was no sign in sheets prepared, it was never communicated to the teachers or staff that new students would be starting. I was finally walked to the 1 year old classroom where there was only one teacher and 9 students (not including my twins). I asked if there combined age groups in the classroom and I was told yes because the other teachers do not arrive until 7:30am. As we were leaving, the food service worker ran after after us to see if there were any food allergies that she should be aware of...not one teacher even thought to ask. I went back at 8am and that is when the Acting Director Robin showed up and when I confronted him, he acted as though it was no big deal and a common practice. I went back after an hour and picked up my children and they will not be returning.

We love the staff, the curriculum and the other families that attend. Our son started in the beginner program where we saw him grow leaps and bounds developmentally and socially. He is now in the Primary program, and everyday I'm impressed with the knowledge he brings home and how articulately he is able to express himself to adults and peers alike. All of the lead teachers are Montessori certified, but the primary classroom has 2 leads, both certified and a kitchen assistant who cooks with the children and an outdoor assistant. Compared to the other schools we visited the children have more opportunities because of this arrangement. The school is private, so there is tuition even at the higher grades. However, we noticed that because it stayed private when all the other Montessori schools we toured were charter, it seemed to stick closer to the traditional Montessori curriculum we read about in our research. Children were not tested in any standardized way, and the teachers seem more able to truly follow the child. At one of the Montessori charters we saw 5 year olds doing standardized test practice during our tour. Yikes. Another thing we love about this school is how close knit the community is. When we toured we found out that one of the teachers attended the school and all of her children have been through the program, the director's husband was a student there and all of their children attended the school, etc. There is only one of every classroom so the children all know each other. Our son loves all of his friends and speaks of school excitedly everyday. On the weekends he begs to go to school to play with his friends. We have been so pleased with MCH, and would recommend it to anyone looking for a caring, small and diverse school community.

From the very beginning, the teachers and staff have gone above and beyond--not just to "watch" the kids, but to truly teach, nurture, and connect with them. The growth I've seen in my children has been incredible. My oldest has graduated out but my youngest comes home excited, confident, and full of new things he's learned. What stands out most to me is how intentional the focus is on true development and connection. They don't teach just about letters, numbers, or milestones--they help each child grow into themselves with kindness, curiosity, and confidence. As a parent, specifically a single parent, I'm especially grateful for how seamlessly their approach aligns with the way I raise my children at home. The parallels between their teaching style and my parenting make it easy for my kids to absorb and retain what they're learning, which has made a huge difference in their growth. It's rare to find a place where you feel your children are not only safe, but also understood, supported, and genuinely loved. That's exactly what this center has given us. I can't recommend them highly enough!
