This is a great place to bring your huge boxes that your new 80" TV came in. So much better to bring boxes for your expensive new toys here than to advertise to criminals what's new inside your home! Prohibited items: wood, metal, construction debris, chemicals, paint, tires and appliances. Texans don't seem to care much about recycling, in fact I often think we go out of our way NOT to…read morerecycle, but Irving makes it easy. In Georgia, I have to take my recycling to 3 different places to get it all done- paper at work, aluminum & plastic a local spot, cardboard & glass at (of all places) an Ikea. The full service drop off centers in Irving handle everything, plastics 1-7, aluminum & steel cans, glass of all different colors, papers, magazines, cardboard, plastics bags, old clothes, electronics - the whole 9 yards. The attendant is there during the day everyday except Tuesdays and Wednesdays. She'll help you sort items and keep the piles under control. After hours you can dump paper and glass products, but everything should wait until someone's around, if only to make the attendant's life easier. Also, they'll tell you that they can't take plastic bottles with caps on them, so ditch them before you throw things in your recycle bin (this is evidently true of most all recycling centers, those caps are useless). Since using this place, I've really upped the kinds of thing I recycle, and gone a long way to reducing my trips to the trash bin. I'm not sure if there's anything comparable in Dallas. Anyone know?

The people in the weighing house are very helpful. If I should miss recycling day at the house, I can just take my blue recycling bags there and there are 2 green dumpster for that. I don't take glass. It shatters and shards get everywhere. I have a bin at home of glass and take it to Strategic Materials in Midlothian about every 6 months or so. I would also like to comment on the ascetics of the dump. Very clean, organized and helpful personnel. Thank you city of Irving. By the way, I have also used a rolloff dumpster twice for remodeling. Very convenient and I don't have to make any trips to the dump.

It does take a while to get our certificates of destruction, but it's never been missed! I've used other business for recycling our business electronics and no one makes it easier than STS :D
