The instructors are fabulous, and our kids have come such a long way in gaining both confidence and grit, not to mention learning how to truly defend themselves. I love that only students who work hard get promoted, it's not automatic. One of my kids learned that lesson the hard way, and grew from it. The instructors do a fantastic job of balancing being supportive with enforcing clear expectations. It's also a great place for neurodiverse kids to thrive! I'd give them 10 stars if I could!

3/24/23 UPDATE So…read moreit's been a year at AMAA and this is our last day. Things were good in the beginning, especially when we first signed up. Sensei Paul was very nice and my son felt comfortable and happy being there. My wife and I feel like everything changed when we told Sensei Paul that we are not renewing our membership because we decided to try a different activity for our son. There were two main things that happened that changed our mind about ever returning there in the future. A few weeks ago, he called out our son for having a few stains on his uniform in front of the entire class and told him that his parents need to wash his uniform. We heard after the fact that he had done that to a few other students as well (and one of them never returned to his class). But today was the last straw. After accidentally walking on the carpet to run and use the bathroom before class, Sensei Paul yelled with anger and told him to take off his shoes (after he was already almost all the way across the floor). We know that he has this rule about taking off their shoes, but he allows parents to walk to the bathroom with their shoes on, so this is kind of a double standard. Our son ended up not using the bathroom and went back to his seat and began to cry. Just because he accidentally went to the bathroom with his shoes, there is no justification for behaving in an unprofessional manner. My wife and I feel that there are kinder, gentler ways that a teacher can reprimand a student. This can also be done in private instead of publicly shaming a 6 year old in front of his peers (and their parents). When I confronted Sensei Paul about him yelling at my son, he told me that if I didn't like the rules, then I can leave. So that is what we did tonight- we never stayed for class. After being there a whole year and paying a lot of money to be there, this is how you treat someone's child? Well, we WERE planning on signing up our second child for classes in the future, but after this happened, we will never send him to classes there or recommend this place to anyone.

They also had a costumed shark character, their mascot, show up! So cute! The children were thrilled! The party was so well run and they played Star Wars music as that was my grandson's party theme.I would highly recommend Action Karate for any age child's party!

(I am writing this as an adult who wants to learn martial arts...) I wanted to take some…read moreself-defense class, and left messages with several places. This is the only place that called me back immediately, which was a good sign. I said I never did martial arts before and would like to learn with other adults. They asked me to come in for a trial class. When I got there, there were 3 teenagers and 2 other adults, 1 man and 1 woman. The woman only just started, so I thought this was a good start. The opening exercises were good, 100 jumping jacks and some very tough moves, but since I work out frequently, I actually liked the intensity. We then learned some defense moves that I liked also. But then we had to practice these moves with each other. When it was I against the woman, it was fine b/c we both were learning. Then it was the man sparring with the other woman, and it seemed like he's been there for a while, so he did it slowly and showed her the moves. I was thinking, this wasn't too bad. Then it was my turn to spar with him, and I was shocked when he went into attack mode! I kid you not. He pulled and twisted my wrists and pretended to hit me. Unfortunately, we had to do this a dozen times. My wrists and arms started to hurt because he was pulling so hard. Then we were told to add a move where we pretended to push the other person away, and he really pushed me to the point that I had to take several steps back to avoid falling. I had previously boxed before, but that was years ago, and usually against boxing bags or sparring with instructors with pads. So the next time we sparred, I came close to giving him full-blown upper cuts but stopped short, and decided to just block him instead. (I was taught to respect my elderlies, and he was probably 15 years older.) He said with a smirk, "Oh, are you afraid of me?" I said, "No, but I didn't expect to have to fight someone for real in my first class." (In my mind, I was like bring it on, a55h01e!) I may have gotten injured if I was a true beginner. Needless to say, I am never going back. I think they really should separate the beginners from overzealous and overeager showoffs.

Master Zohar has created an amazing program. He life lessons along with the Tae Kwon Do trainings into each class not to mention a lot of fun and humor. We have noticed a drastic difference in his confidence since he has started the Master Zohar. He has used the lesson on dealing with bullies at school to easily defuse situations. In this period of home quarantine Master Zohar created Classes for the students to do through video conference so everyone could train at home. He could have just closed up shop but he wanted to make sure everyone kept up with their training. Master Zohar really seems to care about each and every student and gives them what they need when they need it. Not to mention that he knows every students name with out even thinking. I would suggest Personal Power to anyone who was interested in Tae Kwon Do training. We look forward to hopefully seeing our son receive a black belt from Master Zohar some day.
