Both coaches have brought me to a point of Sparring and hitting the mits!!! Rob got my strikes on-point while Shawn is locking-in my defense!!! I really appreciate how ppatient both coaches are when someone is struggling with a combination/move. Overall, can't reccomend Keystone enough!!! The atmosphere was great- welcoming. We enjoyed watching a bit of the warm up games and sparring that went on. Adequate gear available in multiple sizes (unlike our experience at home). Liberty Fencing Club is a special place--the fencing itself is great, but the environment is warm…read moreand inviting in a way that isn't common in the fencing world. Marshal Davis and the other coaches have managed to create the kind of club where you can quickly feel you are part of a community of truly diverse ages and experience levels, from kids to adults, and Marshal's (successful but friendly) students from Swarthmore College will sometimes come by too. If I were looking for a place to start to learn fencing, this is where I would go--the folks at Liberty train their fencers to learn fast and hit the ground running, though you'll receive all the appropriate guidance along the way. Liberty also hosts tournaments every week, and I highly recommend trying one out. I've found the atmosphere to be low-pressure and collegial, while still working hard to fence well. When possible, they like to run a 45-touch relay after the regular event, with both fencing and social benefits. TL;DR: Solid fencing, diverse group, welcoming and fun.
