Hello my name is Erin. I started karate around the age of 10 or 11, and right now I'm 13. My story started when my brothers decided to enroll at the new Action school at Jamison. While I was watching my brothers during their first lesson I kept thinking that it wasn't that bad. My mom asked Sensei Michael if I could join and he said that since my brothers are already joining I would be free. I decided to give it a try the week after my brothers enrolled. My first lesson wasn't bad and I liked it. My brothers were ahead of me though but I didn't care because I knew I would catch up to them. To make karate more enjoyable my brothers and I became more competitive of who was better at karate. As the lessons kept coming they kept becoming more interesting. I met more people and became good friends with them. This kept the classes more fun and it boosted my interest in karate more. As I became a purple belt I started sparring. Sparring was my favorite class because it made me happy and it helped me use the techniques I've learned on people. I'm very competitive so of course I tried to win all of them and I won most of them. I was asked once to help out with the other classes, and I decided to give it a try. I loved helping out the younger classes especially with the little kids so I chose to help more. The other day I was asked to teach a part of the class. I rehearsed it in my head and I was good, but when I was teaching I just became nervous and forgot parts. Then I got the hang of it for a little and I was fine. Whenever I was in karate I never had a day when I was still in a bad mood in my classes. Karate helped me with my grades and my manners. I'm glad I took the opportunity to learn karate at Action Karate Jamison otherwise I wouldn't get to meet more people, learn self-defenses, and learn how to become a better person without lesson about focus, self-discipline, respect and more. I hope to earn my black belt. Hello my name is Jeremy. I started karate when I was about 6 and I am 9 right now. I started being really into it because I saw other kids do karate and I thought it would be really fun. My brother and I started off first then my sister came along with us but she was free. My goal when I started was to go all the way to earn my Black Belt. I thought my first class was awesome and, a few weeks later I met all new friends. When I attended more classes the lessons were even harder and more fun. When I was a purple belt there were sparring classes which I was really in to because u got to fight other kids with gear. The first time I ever sparred someone was really awesome because I won but I know why because they had to go easy on me. When I turned 7 karate helped me a lot because I got to face my fear. It helped me when I got picked on, and it made the bullies stop picking on me or my brother. When I turned 8 I started helping with the classes. It was super awesome and as I got older I had to be self-disciplined and respect and it wasn't that easy but I got there. When I was a brown belt we got to do weapons. The first was Kama we had to do a kata with it. Then came the Arnis then came the Katana finally came staff. We had to do this thing called BBR which stands for black belt responsibility and it was for practicing when you missed karate. You had to turn it in in order to get your stripe to get to your new belt. I'm happy karate came into my life because it helped faced my fear. When I feel left out it's the only place that makes me come out of the darkness and into the light and makes me feel not left out. I never had a bad day because everyone in karate has my back and is always there for me and it makes me feel like I exist to other people and not a loser but someone who is happy. Now I'm a red belt my next belt is black belt and I hope to pass it. read more

The Action Effect Throughout life many things change and many stay the same. Philosophers say history always repeats itself and lessons learned should be passed along so the same mistake is not repeated. At Action Karate the journey has crossed many of these lessons learned. The journey started roughly 3 years ago when our daughter, now 13, wanted to be involved with karate. She has tried her hand at tennis, knitting, guitar lessons but quickly lost interest, but at action, things are much different. Davin has achieved her junior black belt and is a member of the Esteemed Demonstration Team. After visualizing our daughter's enthusiasm, it wasn't long before it became a family affair. Since then my wife has achieved her senior black belt and I will hopefully achieve mine this coming December. For me, joining karate was multi-faceted. First, I believe in leading by example and that sets a good example for the family and other families. Second, it's a great exercise program and third, it was on my bucket list. As a youth, about my daughter's age, I was bullied at school and didn't know how to defend myself. I never took the opportunity to learn how to defend myself until I joined Action. This is a lesson learned that my daughter will not have to repeat. At Action there is a lot of focus throughout the year that teaches young students how to counter being bullied. This has made me breathe easier when our daughter is not by my side. I find it quite interesting that health clubs generate the lion's share of their revenue in December around the holidays. What's more interesting is that the average person looses interest after about 6 weeks. I enjoy the workout routines at Action for the fact that every workout, self-defense and kata is a new challenge that pushes one's limits, both mental and physically thus, never losing interest. In today's business environment, one is required to be on top of their game at all times both mentally and physically. The assorted workout routines at Action have helped me fill that need and be able to stay focused and tenacious when accomplishing set goals. In closing, I would like to say that the culture at Action Karate has created a lot of friendships that are hard to find in today's world both young and old. As our daughter and other sons and daughters entered middle school this year, there was a lot of anxiety the first week maybe not fitting in or knowing anyone. On the first day, all of a sudden, a familiar face, another Action Karate student, then another and then there were high-fives in the hallway. Action students are great group of students with the same moral compass. This is what helps parents sleep at night and this is how Action Karate has affected change in my life. ACTION EFFECT STORY I can remember like it was yesterday when a group of friends my brother and myself in a little town in Puerto Rico we all walked about a mile from our neighborhood in rout to the movie theater. The movie we were about to see was being talked about over the world; the title of the movie was ENTER THE DRAGON staring Bruce Lee. We had to go see what the fuss was all about. On our way home after the movie we knew then what all the talk was all about (Bruce Lee). The entire walk back to the neighborhood we talk about the movie, we reenacted fight scenes, we were kicking, punching, screaming, imitating the great Bruce Lee we were amazed by his skills. That was my introduction to MARTIAL ARTS. I always thought to myself wouldn't be great to learn Martial Arts. Well finances, schools, baseball, work and traveling among other reasons, I was never able to join until recent times. I joined Action Karate about three years ago and it has been a pleasure. Sensei Michael and his team have been tremendous. Their leadership, words of wisdom, will to encourage others makes being there even more inviting. Along the way there have been some struggles trying to make it to class two, three sometime four days a week was no easy task, work, finances, juggling children's schedule, personal injuries, health, weather at time it was very difficult to get motivated to go to class. Somehow I was able to attend class and for good reasons. Some of the reasons I continued, I would think about how good I felt after working out in class, a feeling of enjoyment and satisfaction a feeling of accomplishment. At Action Karate we also developed friendships among students friendship that will continue for many years. Reasons like these made it easy to show up to class despite trying to find a reason not to go. Action Karate has made me a better person, I feel great mentally, physically and emotionally. In many situations at work or at home I credit Action Karate for the way I analyze and handle a situation. In other ways I have become more patient dealing with issues. Physically I feel great at 52 years old. I have been able to loose weight and keep it off, I have gained strength, knowledge and wisdom in martial arts. As of today I have gone from white belt to red/black, soon to be a first degree Black belt. Action Karate is about Goals, Dedication, commitment, positive Thoughts and Motivation to be on a quest to be the BEST. In a ways my dream of being a martial artist has come true. I had started karate when I was 10 years old. Right from the beginning, I knew that karate was the sport for me. I was horrible at push-ups, and when doing sit-ups, I couldn't even get my shoulders off the ground. But in these past 3 years, I've improved dramatically. My instructors have really helped me through it all, my family and friends, too. I kept working at it and became better with their encouragement. My focus and concentration in school and extra-curricular activities is better than its ever been, especially with starting my first year of middle school this year. During my karate journey, I was invited to join the Demo Team. I was thrilled. A few months later, a month before the promotion where I was to receive my purple belt, I had fractured my ankle. I was completely devastated. I had to wear a boot on my foot for 6 weeks, which meant no karate-ing for me. A few days after I got the boot, A Builder Bear package was on my front step. It was from my Demo Team members and my instructors. Inside the package was a bear with bandages and a wrapped up foot, it even had its own little crutches. That cheered me up, and it let me know that I was truly part of the Action Karate family. When I had finally gotten the boot off, I jumped right back into it. My parents scheduled a bunch of private lessons to make up for the classes I had missed. I didn't let that fractured ankle bring me down. Like a line in one of my favorite songs, 'Your time will come if you wait for it' ("Amsterdam" by Imagine Dragons), the time has finally come to test for my black belt. These past 3 years have been a great journey, full of challenging obstacles. I have learned that, when you come to a seemingly-impossible challenge, you should never let it faze you. My name is Johann Sumague and this is my Martial Arts story. It all started when I was walking to the car with my mom after my Kumon lesson. I saw the sign karate and asked if I could try it. I had no idea what karate is or what it meant. I just thought it was a cool name. I was excited when Mom said yes. I soon discovered that the things I learned such as the kicks, punches, combinations, self defenses, and katas are much cooler than the name itself. Little did I know, that these cool things I am doing and learning will have a bigger impact and influence on me. It helped me realize that karate is not just a part of class but a part of everyday life. It helped me with my attitude. I became more appreciative, courteous, and respectful to my parents and others. Action karate has helped me improve the way I treat other people. It has also helped me become open-minded to others' ideas and suggestions. I know I still have many things to learn in karate. I have to admit it's not always easy. My name is Kait Eisele. I started with Action Karate Jamison in 2011 when I was 8 years old, I am now 11. I am always shy when I meet people and it takes me a while to warm up to people. Being in karate has given me courage to interact with people I don't know. I was so proud when I was asked to be on the Demo team. I really felt special and honored that Sensei Michael thought I was good enough to be on the team. I work hard at the practices and at the performances because if I don't I will be letting my team mates down. I have missed several soccer tournaments because of Action Karate tournaments, but I believe my soccer team mates could do fine without me because we have substitutes. On the demo team there is no substitute for me, and I would not feel good about letting the demo team down. I have worked hard and earned two first place trophies in the tournaments. I try not to be discouraged if I don't win first place because I tried my hardest. As I continue in karate I continue to grow as a person and that makes me try harder in everything I do. Perseverance My story with Action karate started almost 5yrs ago when I was in Kindergarten. Action Karate had just opened and my parents thought it would be a good activity for me to help build my confidence around new people. During classes I was, and still am, a little shy but over the years I have made some "karate" friends who I will talk to and pair up with. My confidence has grown and karate has also helped with my memory. Over the years, mostly as I was coming to an end of a belt class, I have wanted to quit. However I knew the goal I had of getting my black belt and I wanted to achieve it. Once I was promoted to the next belt and class, I started liking karate again. But with each promotion I wanted to quit just a few weeks before. Now that I am just 4 weeks away from testing for black belt, I am very nervous but am confident that with hard work and practice I will achieve the goal I set out to do 5yrs ago, to receive my BLACK BELT.. read more

Action Karate has made me more fit and has taught me to never give up, to set goals, to get more exercise, and to make me a hard worker. Although there have been times that I thought I didn't want to do Karate anymore, I am glad that I stuck with it. Each time I was ready to give up, it was time to test for a new belt and learn to use new weapons. That always made it exciting again. Sensei Michael and Mr. Hodum have taught me to always persevere, even when things get tough. I have learned that even when you try your hardest and you don't achieve your goal it is ok, because as long as you tried your hardest that is all that matters. Cant say enough about Action Karate, they are like family to us. We have been at this school for 6 years and have watched them grow into a thriving business. Both my son and daughter have been thru the curriculum and are now testing for their black belts. My kids wouldn't be able to earn their black belts without the dedication of the instructors. I cannot express in words the positive experience my daughter has had here. They go above and beyond to accommodate our crazy schedules and are so thoughtful. Between the mailed home birthday card and yard sign we were blown away. All the staff here is incredibly friendly. Karate has been an amazing addition to our daily routine teaching discipline and self control both in everyday life and in the classroom. It has helped make her more self confident!! I wanted to start karate after seeing my brother John in his karate classes. When I was a brown belt I kept telling my Nana I wanted to quit. My Nana encouraged me to stick to it. So I didn't give up and I got invited to the black belt challenge. I sometimes watch the Junior Black Belt classes and I look forward to learning what I saw. My brother helps me with my weapons and self defense when I get stuck. When we are both Black Belts we can challenge each other even though I know I can beat him now. My 4 year old daughter has been at Action Karate in Jamison for 6 months now. She started with 1-2 times a week and now goes 3 times a week. She loves it and can't get enough, she even practices at home! Sometimes on the way to karate she is tired because it's after school but as soon as we get there she becomes a new person and is so happy to be there and see her amazing teachers. The instructors at Action Karate Jamison are among the best I've ever come across. They truly take price in what they do and every instructor know every single child in every single class! Amazing. My daughter struggles with severe anxiety and slowly but surely, the gentle yet strong instructors here have embraced her and encouraged her and have let her participate in HER time and when SHE's ready. I signed my kids up for classes about 2 years ago when Action Karate first opened in Jamison. The experience has been awesome. I love that the instructors incorporate fitness into every class and teach my children to keep trying no matter what. I live in New Hope so it's a little bit of a drive for us, but worth it.
