My favorite yarn shop (in Goshen Indiana) closed up so, while visiting the area I was looking for a…read moreyarn shop. Friend and I googled yarn shops in the area and Yarn on Front came up, so off we went to Dowagiac. This little shop is a gem. It was exactly what I was looking for. Unusual yarns from trusted yarn companies. And the owner (?) was very friendly and helpful. When I told her I did a lot of knitting for charity she directed me to the discount yarn bins. There was everything from affordable yarns for every day knitting to the "wow" yarns that one only buys for special people and occasions. Another customer came in and we joked about our yarn stashes (huge but always room for more). Very friendly people! I ended up buying more yarn than I planned just because I was so comfortable with the shop. The choices of needles was huge so I was able to get a circular knitting needle that I had been looking for. It's too bad I don't live in the area as I'd be back here a lot, buying more yarns to add to my stash. It's a lovely shop.

I'm taking a sock class right now, and the instructor, Ann, is great! My only gripe is they don't carry a couple of my favorite fibers, but overall, they have a good selection of fiber. Plus, I understand that you can't please everyone all of the time! Overall, my favorite knitting shop.

The overuse of AI generated images and text in their emails, social media and marketing is enough…read moreto put me off ever stepping foot in this store ever again. I am curious to know what the owners of The Bear and Fox DON'T use AI for, because they take AI use to an entirely new level and it really just comes across as lazy and unprofessional. Why should I spend my hard earned money at a business that is too lazy to invest in their own business by hiring a graphic designer for their logo, or at the very least spend a few minutes in an editing program to make a flier that is not visually abhorrent? Why should I go out of my way to shop local when this business is so lazy and cares so little that they need AI to regurgitate word salad for their emails and social media posts? Why even bother owning a business that is specifically catered to crafts if you are going to outsource every creative aspect to a robot? The AI is getting so exhausting. It is EVERYWHERE and it is a punch in the gut to see a business built around human creativity and handmade crafts use this kind of technology, despite the environmental impact and the theft that takes place to train AI models. I cannot speak for everyone, but fiber arts is my escape from being bombarded by AI and the need to be hyper-vigilant of what is real and what is fabricated. The incessant AI is just more than I am willing to tolerate tainting my hobby. I don't own a business, I am sure it is so much harder than it looks and I am sure the owners are just trying their best with the tools they have at their disposal. However, no amount of business optimization and time saving is worth what AI is doing to the planet, the fiber arts community and the communities living in areas where data centers are being built.
