And I had to find a dry cleaner immediately (I usually only do my own laundry and have never used dry cleaning in this area). So I yelped it! Came in a few days ago when the incident happened and told the owner Watson about my troubles. I needed to check to see if they would be willing to accept **bags and bags** of my damp gross clothes. Some for dry cleaning and some for Wash & Fold. I could not be happier with my experience! They go above and beyond with their dry cleaning. They press everything so exceptionally. Nothing ever smells and it's literally like my clothes are brand new again. While I was having my 7 garbage bags of clothes sorted by them for dry cleaning, I got to talking with Watson. He was genuinely sad that this happened to me and was speaking to me in such a kind manner. And today, I went to pick up my dry cleaning from them and we started talking again. He said this business has been running since 1985! I was in awe as he started telling me how he thinks the key to running a longtime successful business is 3 Things: good customer service (be nice), good quality, and competitive pricing. HOW CUTE! I love everything about WeWash and what it stands for. Also when I call them on the phone now he answers with "Hello Ms. Frezza". How wonderful is that?!

I pray that this once great place that helps the less fortunate thrives again and revamps there system.

They have a game room on the 2nd floor where clients and staff gather to play board games for prizes and practice. They have showers downstairs where clients geniuely are able to clean themselves in privcy with decency and respect. I love them and I feel the same way in return.

That meant a great deal to me but I never had found the time to go. Today I found that time. One reason I went was in direct response to the SNAP benefits cruel debacle. This, I thought was better than marching - walking beside and offering a helping hand. Mercy, empathy and compassion are the marrow in the national spine - the international backbone. What was to have been an act of personal protest morphed into something unexpectedly different. We've become an outwardly more calloused land of late, where selfishness and insensitivity are worn like badges of honor. They're not; they're a stain on our image to the world - worse: to ourselves. I didn't do much day except hand out chips and offer supportive subtle enthusiasm. No one will remember me nor should they - I was fortunate enough to arrive and depart as a day tripper. But it's the faces that haunted me. You never knew what lead each man and woman there or what their fate would ultimately be. Yet here we were. Crossing fates in the same hall. And there was this unspeakably overwhelming sense as nearly two hundred hungry souls filed by us as we doled out chips and hot dogs and apples that we the dilettantes were happy to do. I felt we stood at the edge of a vast sea of unknowable suffering - that our few hours were a drop of living kindness, as the Buddhists call it, in this sea that's always threatened to drown the world. I can't put my finger on this sense of today except to say I'll return to learn perhaps a greater understanding. And the staff. They reminded me of that humbled awe I felt for 9/11 and covid first responders. I may not change a single life for the better except mine handing out child but I know that offering a helping hand to those struggling in need is what defines humanity and defies inhumanity. I'm grateful I experienced this. And even catching the glimpse of so many as they passed was a bracing wake up call to what's really going on. Thank you.

All in-person donations are to be dropped off with the gentleman at the front desk. You can also request a receipt if needed. They have different events throughout the month. The pantry drive is every 3rd Saturday.

On the news, I'd watched bills I cared about come and go through the legislature. I started to feel like some sort of an arm-chair constituent. I felt kinda' powerless. I'm just a graphic designer, what can I do? In our democracy, I feel we have a responsibility to join our friends and neighbors to help advance laws that protect the rights of those in our community who do not have the full ear of the government. Lobbying sounded like a solid step, but I wasn't sure how to begin. I'd read about The Red Umbrella Project's Speak Up!- free Legislative advocacy training- and it looked like a good place to start. At the Urban Justice Center, I joined a mixture of non-profit workers, lawyers, sex workers, and ordinary constituents like me. The room looked like a healthy slice of New York! The well-spoken Speak Up! team walked us through what it takes to advance a bill, and what we'd need to do to support the bill we were focused on. By the end of the training I felt empowered and ready to speak constructively with representatives who share my views...and those who don't. By the end, I was ready for Albany! The key reason I participated in lobby day was because the bill we were focusing on-A1008/S323-touches the lives of so many of my neighbors, friends and family. It just didn't make sense to sit back and watch as people got hurt. I could do something. If we truly believe in the just treatment and dignity of all people, it's important to take the time to get involved in this important work. The Speak Up! advocacy training gave me the tools to do just that.

I was able to obtain legal representation through them for a housing issue. The person assigned to…read moremy case was very forgetful, not very communicative and every time I did get in touch with her she always spoke about her other cases and her workload. She even confused me for another client of hers and I missed a half a day of work sitting in court when I did not need to be there. In response, she sent me a text " . . . I thought these texts were from another client who I am court with right now. . . .(These kinds of mixups are why I dislike communicating by text)" This is after she told me to contact her via text, phone, and/or email. Sent plenty of follow-up emails as to the status of everything. After not being able to get a response from her since Aug 28th (via phone), she finally emailed today. She stated in her email that my case was "solved and closed" which it wasn't. I repeated that back to her via email and she took that as a go ahead to close my case and sent me a closing letter. Disgusted by her unprofessionalism and the fact that she is a public servant. Who is she helping? I guess ALL THOSE OTHER CLIENTS.

greedy, bad people J…read morecleaners is attached to a residential building. that residential building had a leak that destroyed many items in the basement. residents had storage in that basement. when i brought wet clothes up from the basement to see if J's would clean them for me via wash and fold by the pound, J's cleaners wanted to charge me per pound based on the WET/SOAKED weight of the clothes. Wasn't even willing to cut a break for the people that live in the building where their business resides. In times of need, New Yorkers usually work together. J's proved that they're not New Yorkers.
