When it finally came time to do it, we started going through the process of trying to find the right contractor for the project. We spent several weeks researching until we came across Yorklyn Construction. Once we met Ben, we felt like the search was over. The advice, detailed thought he put into our plans brought a sense of comfort to us. The quotes were fair and where we hoped they would be. Starting with Ben, our experience fanned out to the rest of folks working for Yorklyn. Tom, who managed our project, was absolutely in touch with our thoughts as the project transitioned from demo to the "rebuild". He did a better job of "detail nitpicking" than I could have. From the beginning they stated it clearly, "we want it done right for you." They certainly lived up to that and exceeded it. The carpentry work with the cabinets they constructed all the way down to the floor thresholds / transitions were perfect, and I mean perfect. I'm sure a lot of contractors hold similar standards, but where Yorklyn pulls ahead is with how they treat your property, residence and your family. You become a bit more than a customer. To Whom This May Concern:…read more Typically, we are not people that post reviews. Oh, if we really don't like something we have been known to speak up directly to the company. We have to have very strong feelings to post in a public forum. After all, saying something about a person's lively hood should not be taken lightly. Often people are quick to criticize and slow to praise. We would like to change that. We have a house that was in need of updates and repairs. We also where in desperate need of storage. We invited several companies to come by and tell us what they thought and to give us a bid. Two companies that came by and told us the project was too big for them and no bid the project. Finally, it came down to two companies from the area, Yorklyn Construction being one. Yorklyn shot straight with us. They told us the truth, not what they thought we wanted to hear. The bids came in pretty close but Yorklyn impressed us with their candor and professionalism which gave us confidence that once they agreed to something they would meet their commitments. We were told that the process would be long (several months) and that we would basically be living in a construction site. Like I stated, they shot straight with us and it was a big project. Side note, they did everything they could to minimize any discomfort and were respectful that this was our home. We did have hiccup's but Yorklyn's staff and the sub-contractors where great. In a project this size there are hundreds of small decisions, but I can honestly say that everyone involved looked out for our best interests. If they thought we were making a wrong choice, they spoke up. For example, we chose the color of grout for the shower in a showroom. The tile guy put in the tile but thought we made a mistake with the color of the grout. He didn't just go and let us make a mistake. Instead he spoke up and brought it to our attention. He and the project manager discussed it with us and made suggestions that we elected to follow and are happier for that decision. We had a similar experience with their painter. Trust me things look different in a sample catalog or a showroom than in your house. I also wanted to say that their carpenters are great and their cabinet guy is amazing, very skilled and exact, a true craftsman. Our cabinets are just wonderful. We can also tell you that on the rare occasion that we did express displeasure, they made it right and when a problem was our fault, they were fair. Several of the Yorklyn staff and sub-contractors feel like friends. We have very warm feelings for these people. We have grown to trust them. Not only would we recommend them, we will call upon them in the future when we need skilled professional trades people. Often in business "quality "is defined as meeting or exceeding a customer's expectations, in our book, Yorklyn's work and the people that make up this company are the definition of quality. The initial engagement with the owner Curt was pleasant, the quote we received was reasonable, and the job started 8 weeks after we signed the contract. Unfortunately, that's where the good ended... On the day of the job, the crew didn't let us know they were onsite, which wasn't a good start. Then after the work was completed they left without notifying us that the job was done nor doing a walkthrough with us. The next day we looked over the work and noticed that two of the installed gates were not level and were substantially tilted to one side. We contacted their office manager, Tammy, who stated that the owner Curt would stop by the following day to review the issues. Curt was a no-show and after following up with Tammy she stated he would stop by the next day instead. He was again a no-show. We once again followed up and asked for a specific day and time that they would come out so that we didn't have to miss work again and never received a response... The following weekend Curt finally showed up unannounced and without notice and never apologized for the no-shows. He then immediately asked in a defensive tone "What's your problem with the gates?". We explained the issue and he tried to blame it on the previous fence builder. We stated that the previous gates were level and installed correctly and he replied "Well then what do you expect, this was a repair job". Uh ok... I expect properly built and installed gates, per our contract. He finally agreed that one of the gates should be rebuilt after initially denying it had issues and said he would try to reposition the other gate to reduce the slant, but he clearly was not happy about doing the work. Also, after providing feedback on the crew's disappearing act he stated "We have bigger jobs than this that are more important". When I stated I couldn't recommend them to others due to their lack of customer service, he walked off and barked "We have plenty of other work in this area so I'm not worried about it". Wow... A simple apology would have gone a long way... Ultimately they did fix the gates and followed up to see if we were satisfied. However, based on our overall experience I would not recommend this company due to their lack of basic customer service, lack of basic respect for their customers, and shoddy workmanship. Also, they clearly don't value smaller jobs, which is a bad move on their part because they lost future business with me as well as my neighbors who asked about my experience.

Recently hired "Do it all Dave" (David Wolfe) from Biglerville, PA to take care of five handyman…read moreprojects that I am no longer capable of doing. These included: repairing damaged drywall, rebuilding a frame and reinstalling white lattice around a rear patio deck, replacing a ceiling light fixture, replacing the cartridge in a shower faucet, and replacing two halogen bulbs in floodlight units up at the top of my roof line. Dave and his son showed up on time, completed all of the repairs quickly and efficiently, cleaned up afterwards, and charged what I considered to be a very fair and reasonable price for all of this work. I can recommend Dave Wolfe for handyman projects, as well as decks, bathrooms, and other construction work, with no reservations.

Have to revise my previous review. Nothing good on their second job…read more Had 2 bay windows reroofed and some minor siding work done. Very poorly done. They left behind a heavy load of damaged unusable roof shingles. Left behind all of the fiber cement siding pieces they replaced. Worst of all they left behind roofing nails, many extremely sharp cut off pieces of flashing , small roofing pieces etc which I am still finding and picking up. Extremely unacceptable. Guess the concept of a drop cloth escaped them. The 1st job was an exterior door installation. That was a good month plus ago. Deadbolt is unusable. Missed about a foot of caulk on the interior. Failed to use a caulk or use sealant on the exterior brick moulding. !st review was 5 stars; 2nd review is a more realistic 2 stars. Never again. Mike
