Thinking I knew what I was doing, I googled how to clean the camera and bought an image sensor kit. That was a major mistake. Though I didn't actually know that until this past week, when I went to Yosemite and did some night/sunrise shots. All of my sunrise shots had major streaks through it. I just knew it had to be the image sensor. I didn't want to touch it again, so searched for a repair person who could deal with camera image sensors. Joe immediately popped up and I read so many reviews on how he had fixed cameras and cleaned up image sensors. It didn't take me long to go to him. He took a look at my camera and all I can say is, thank you! I will never touch the inside of my camera again and I'm glad I didn't damage it beyond repair. The fact that Joe went above and beyond the service that I requested, was so helpful and appreciated. AND it was done super quickly, I thought I would have to leave my camera for days. I grabbed a new battery, and bought my first roll(It was Portra 400). From there, it was all routine: shoot a roll, turn it in before 1pm on Tuesday to get it returned by the end of the week, ask what worked and what didn't get exposed correctly(which happened a lot my first year). Mark and Frankie fielded all of my questions and conversations with wisdom and grace, about the Mamiyas that cycled through the shop, about how to correctly use an off-camera flash on a film camera(though I've failed many a time), about how quickly film was coming back and how many new shooters began to pursue celluloid dreams. I'm not so close by anymore but I'll always remember what this place has given me and countless others. What Mark has left behind in Powell Camera is something that stands beyond its store walls. There's millions of memories here developed, scanned, printed, and returned all over. While I may have been just one of thousands of passing faces, Mark to me was a steward of the craft, someone so unforgettable and tied to the medium here that won't soon be forgotten. BUT the administrative side and studio reliability are major issues. We actually should have seen the red flags on our very first visit when we came to book our appointment. No one was inside the studio, and another family was waiting outside. We let it go at the time, but the exact same thing happened at pickup. Since I had my baby with me and wanted to avoid driving over only to wait around, I called in advance to confirm someone was there and explicitly stated I was on my way. Yet when we arrived, the studio was locked and empty. We ended up waiting for quiet awhile for someone to show up. If staff needed to step out, basic courtesy and sound business practice dictate that you inform the customer on the phone. To top it off, no itemized receipt was provided. While the photographer did a wonderful job, the repeated unreliability and lack of consideration for customers' time mean we'll probably just go somewhere else next time.

I can't say enough good things about Joseph at All Electronics in Upland. I'm a professional…read morephotographer and business owner, and my cameras are literally part of my livelihood. I shoot everything from movie sets and red-carpet events to other professional photography jobs, so when my equipment goes down, I need someone I can trust. I brought Joseph two Canon R6 camera bodies, one that I normally use with my 24-70mm and the other with my 70-200mm. Both cameras had loose hot shoe mounts, which was causing my flashes to lose connection. I was having to physically hold the flash down just to get it to fire. As you can imagine, trying to hold a flash down while zooming, shooting, and working a live event made my job extremely difficult, and I was getting dark images whenever the flash lost connection. I found Joseph through Google, explained my situation, and told him how important these cameras are to my business and that I needed them back ASAP. Joseph came through big time. He took care of BOTH cameras and had them fixed within a matter of hours, the SAME DAY. Beyond the repair itself, what stood out to me was how Joseph treated me. He was professional, respectful, kind, and genuinely seemed to understand how important my equipment was to me. That kind of customer service is hard to find. The hair and makeup artist was able to follow my vague instructions and helped customized my overall look, including jewelry choices. She also stayed throughout the shoot for touch-ups, and even helped with posing. Sam's knows what angles to shoot and which lighting works. He guided us through the poses and was able to wrap up our shoot earlier than estimated even though I usually find myself very awkward in front of the camera. I also appreciated that they provide all of the digital files, including the 500+ raw ones. When I wasn't a fan of the initial editing style, Sam was very receptive to my feedback and revised the photos quickly. The reason for 4 stars is the communication. During the consultation, I was hoping for more guidance on ideas since I didn't have a clear vision. I was just shown his portfolio on his tablet and quietly scrolled in front of him. After the shoot, I had to follow up for updates on my raw and edited photos. Only after I reached out first did he respond immediately.
