This place is a complete rip off. They charge a lot of money. The sound is horrible and it's all a bunch of local yokels who go there to see these shows. It was so much better in the past when they had real touring acts coming in. Now they try to sell you $45 tickets to watch local blues bands. They don't even help local talent at all! They're all about themselves. Actually, the whole board doesn't even live in the three Oaks area. They all live in Illinois, Indiana, and other outskirts. Definitely stay away from this place horrible sound system way expensive. read more

Most shows range from $10-$40, which is about the cost of a movie with all the accoutrements. We have found our new favorite live music venue. The Acorn is small (holds about 225-250) theatre located in Three Oaks, Michigan, inside of an old factory. A few weeks ago, we saw The Grass Roots there. It was our first time to visit and we were so impressed with the facility. We had reserved seats, which is quite interesting as you don't get a seat assigned until the day of the show. I was a little nervous hoping I would be able to see and boy was I worried about nothing. Our seats were perfect. Basically the reserved section is the first four rows. The remaining rows are general admission, but the gentleman next to us said there is really no bad place to sit in this theatre. The acoustics were fantastic. The volunteers were amazing. And above all else, we just had a wonderful time. Can't wait to see another live music show at The Acorn! read more

Please get air conditioning! It's such a great place, but the heat is nearly unbearable.

This is a quaint little theater in the town of Three Oaks Michigan. We have seen several different shows there. The theater is in an old building which has a cool industrial feel. Everything is clean including the bathrooms. Only complaint is the seats are rather uncomfortable. They don't look old but just hard to sit in for a few hours. I was grateful for the intermission. They don't serve food but do have a bar and some small snacks available. read more

One of the most memorable nights I've had. First - we had a little bit of a challenge finding parking, but there was free parking on the street about 1 block away, so not a huge deal. The people checking us in were great, the actual theater was super cute (check out the bathroom!). There was probably only about 50 people. We sat right up front with little tables to place our drinks and snacks. So fun - for snacks, for $3 you get a cup and fill it up as you'd like. Fun! We saw Joe George (I keep saying his name - try it, it's really a fun name) - I keep saying things like "What would Joe George do"... He was good, a very good guitarist. We then saw Dan Navarro and he just made the evening. He is someone who cares about his show and loves music. What a great night and a great musician. We will be back!!! Great venue for live music! Very community oriented; everyone seemed to know each other!

Intimate setting for an entertainment venue. We saw The Neverly Brothers tonight, a tribute band celebrating the early days of rock and roll. They took us on a virtual musical tour and played songs from Elvis, the Beatles, Johnny Cash, the Kinks and many more. Not a bad seat in the house. The show was very entertaining, not an open seat in the house. There's a decent bar with a variety of drinks and limited snacks. Three Oaks has several restaurants nearby where you could get dinner before a show. read more

What an amazing place, this venue is an alternative/counterculture shining star plucked down in the middle of a sleepy Michigan small town. We went this weekend for a Burning Man-affiliated event. The venue is has a great stage and seating for 100-200, and good-sized dance floor. The Acorn is housed in a converted former corset stay factory dating from the 1900s, it's a cool building. We are looking forward to the next event there. Finding this place can be a bitch, so let me just say this: from Highway 12 turn north on South Elm street. Just saw Bruce in the USA, a Springsteen tribute band. Absolutely fantastic with uncanny resemblance of the lead singer to The Boss himself. The Acorn is a cultural gem to the little town of Three Oaks and for those in surrounding areas. It features an open mic night that brings together an amazing group of local talent. The performances at the Acorn include the best in witty comedy, and it somehow manages to bring in the most talented musicians from around the country--which is shocking to find in a community of this size. The owners and staff are amazing human beings. They are invested in the community and are a joy to know and work with. MOTOWN...Pride of the Motor City! The first half of the show was good and full of Motown as promised. After the break the show went straight down hill from there. I'm not sure there was any Motown at all. It went straight into a religious revival and had nothing to do with Motown Classic Music. I have nothing against religion of any sorts but when I came to hear Motown I expect to hear Motown. Don't waste your time or money on this show. If I could have got up and walked out I would have but we were friends. After the show the typical discussion of how did you like the show and we all agreed the second half was not good at all. If we all would have communicated I think we all would have walked out. The Acorn is a great venue as always but the advertising of ALL Motown was very misleading. I am delightfully surprised to say that the Improv Group and "Roxy" we saw on our night at the Acorn introduced me to the most solidly entertaining comedy I have ever seen. I cannot remember when I last laughed so long and so hard. Roxy is a MUST see in my book. I had the pleasure of seeing Seinfeld live the year he stopped touring. The Acorn Theater is one of my favorite places to go to and to play. To begin with, just driving there from Chicago on the Dunes Highway is a stress reliever. The town of Three Oaks is wonderful and The Acorn is a great space with an eclectic array of talent that will please everyone. The owners, Dave and Kim are beautiful characters. They've gone as far as occasionally cooking a meal before a show for acts. Way above and beyond the call of duty. I'm looking forward to my next visit. I used to love this place, but after my last experience, I will not return until new management takes over. The Acorn is a rental venue and I, as a talent buyer, rented the building to put on my event with actor/musician Jeff Daniels. I payed all my rental fees in full, signed their rental agreement contract, and followed everything on their contract for my event. The event ended up being one of the most successful events of the year at the theater. Sounds like a good experience, until I look back at the contract and see a few areas where the Acorn broke their own contract to scoop additional funds into their pockets. When I brought up this discrepancy to the Exec. Director and the entire board, they tried to blame me for the mess up. They actually tried to put the fault in my hands for pointing out areas that they broke on their own contract. It got to the point where I had to file an official IRS Claim against the non-profit for faulty fundraising practices. To this day, the Acorn Non-Profit has refused to surrender all of those funds obtained by breaking the contract. This organization is unprofessional, willing to betray the few ppl (talent buyers) who help keep the organization open, and they flat out steal money from ppl. The Acorn 501(c)3 is a shame and has tarnished the reputation of the Acorn Theater. read more

I've been to many, many shows at The Acorn as an audience member, and, as an artist manager, I've booked talent into the Acorn. I have nothing but the best things to say. Owners David Fink and Kim Clark always make you feel at home and understand the unique needs of artists, and treat their audiences with respect. The shows are always very reasonably priced and the sight lines are great. If you're looking to get away from the crowds, hassle and expense of seeing a show in Chicago, I'd recommend the short drive hour and a half drive to Three Oaks, Michigan to check out the scene at the Acorn. Tickets entry was for 7 pm. Arrived 15 minutes prior. Was told by staff, band was late, go walk around town until 7:30 pm. It's cold and the sun is going down. I am dressed to be inside. Staff was rude to us! We drove 4 hours to come to this small town. Tickets say 7 pm, you broke contract we didn't. My wife and I came to Three Oaks to visit Conway's (for their incredible scones) and see what the Journeyman Distillery was all about. While looking for a parking spot for Journeyman we drove past the Acorn and I saw written on a chalk board, "Chad Stuart and Jeremy Clyde". I could barely believe it, Chad & Jeremy, of the 60's British Invasion (for those who missed out on it). I pondered my good fortune while drinking and dining at Journeyman. I ducked out of Journeyman and went next door to Acorn for the lowdown on the performance. $40 general admission. I was tipped that by paying cash I could save the $8 credit card processing fee. The staff was very accommodating. My wife was still in Journeyman finishing dinner, but I was told that if I was to lay the theater's program on the seats I chose, it was likely that others would respect it as "saved". I bought the tix, and went back to Journeyman to finish up. Indeed, our seated were still saved. The interior of the Acorn has been humbled by the decades, but it did not detract from the event at all. The general admission seats were like standard movie theater seats. There was a well stocked bar in the corner of the theater. Everyone seemed to be having a good time. Chad & Jeremy were in good voice and very entertaining. A well spent part of out visit. Perfect music venue! Small, intimate space with great sight lines no matter where you sit. Note that for some events they sell tix for either General seating or Stadium seating. No hint as to definition, but former more $ than latter. Most events are just one price for a seat anywhere. But for those events that differentiate between the two, general refers to floor seating. About four rows of basic banquet hall chairs, starting about 12 inches from the stage. Pretty darned up close and personal! Stadium seating refers to the movie theater type seating starting about 12 feet from the stage. Several rows of cushy armchairs on a nice incline, so great views even from the last row. Capacity maybe 200, so all seats are winners. But next time I will probably go for the cushy chairs... read more

The Acorn is a regional treasure and is a big part of why Three Oaks is such an amazing town. It's incredible that a village of 1800 people has a theater that brings in national acts and such a broad range of performances. In addition to the frequent big name acts, there are new discoveries in nearly every musical genre, plus sold-out opera nights, plays, magicians, kids acts, etc. There's something interesting going on every week at at theater - plus open mic night on Tuesday and videos and dancing on Thursdays. They also have a full bar so you can have a glass of wine or a cocktail (and snacks) while enjoying the performance. This place is worth a drive even from Chicago. And if that isn't enough, it even has an attached wine (and microbrew) shop, so you can do your wine shopping while waiting for your performace. read more

Would not recommend. The sound man is the worst I have ever heard. Very arrogant for somebody with little knowledge on doing sound. We drove 2 hours to see a a band with a 4 piece horn section which we couldnt hear. The sound man refused to put the horn section through the mains. So if you like to look at a horn section and not hear them this is your place. Also its 90 degrees outside and they have no air conditioning. Let's just say damp and sticky. read more

This is a hidden gem of a performing arts venue in Southwest Michigan. I have been to several open-mic nights and was amazed at the extraordinary talent level of the performers. This past event (Jan 14) was particularly entertaining with a wide variety of music genres. I love coming up to this area (from Chicago) --even in winter. i saw shawn mullins here in april and really loved this venue. it's well worth the drive from chicago if they are having an act that your interested in. there isn't a bad seat in the house. they have an excellent sound system. it's very clean. it's run by classy, genuine people who seem interested in their patrons. and the prices of tix and drinks are quite reasonable, plus free parking in a cool vibed little town. read more
