We love this vintage theater, and now they serve beer and wine! The seats are old but not particularly uncomfortable. The screen is probably not as large as the big Cinemax theaters, but Three Oaks is a lovely small Michigan town that has other active art venues such as the Acorn Theater, and a few restaurants... read more

When I first visited Three Oaks, I was a fourteen-year-old with an attitude who wondered what the hell I was going to do with my weekends visiting my dad and Tina in Nowheresville, MI. That year, Jon and Jennifer Vickers bought the historic 1890s theatre in the center of town and began major renovations to restore it to its former glory. The finished product is an intimate, wonderful art house, dedicated to bringing indie films, live theatre and music performances, open mics, poetry readings and local artists' work to Three Oaks, in addition to the annual "Sound of Silents" film festival (which is this weekend, 8/3-5!!) . I don't think it's an exaggeration to say that the work of Jon and Jenn and the success of the Vickers Theatre was a huge impetus behind the "cultural revolution" in Three Oaks. I've seen my fair share of films at the Vix (as we lovingly call it), my brother and his lady perform there somewhat regularly, my dad sells his pottery there and he and Tina (the two who dragged me to Three Oaks in the first place) have both shown their artwork there. So yeah, I love the place for the history I have with it and the friendship we've established with the Vickers. Personal affinity aside, though, the Vickers Theatre really brings a lot to Three Oaks and people from all over have noticed. Folks from various parts of Michigan, Indiana and Illinois all make the trip to Harbor Country to visit the theatre and enjoy the friendly folks who serve the theatre well. This is a really cute theater with top-notch movies, which are carefully selected. I live out of town, but I visit frequently to visit my parents and we usually check the Vickers schedule and catch a movie when I am in town. My main gripe that it loses a star for is the environmentally unfriendly (and customer-unfriendly) policy of not allowing outside water bottles. The justification the owners give is that they need to make money via concessions. I'd rather pay an extra dollar for the ticket and be able to drink water during a movie without putting another disposable plastic bottle in a landfill, and not having to walk back out to my car to put my own water bottle back. read more

We make a trip to Vickers (from South Bend) about once a month. The staff is excellent, concessions are both varied and reasonable, and the movies seldom disappoint. A highlight is the short introduction that Bill (one of the owners, who seems to manage the theater) does for every movie, complete with a trivia question and a chance to win a mystery prize (aka: a free large popcorn). read more

We love this theater. It is so quaint. The owner goes to the front of the theater and talks a little about the movie and the stars in it before it starts. He has a one question trivia contest which is fun. There are tables and chairs and two, 1 table balconies at the back of the theater and other tables that people can use at the back, instead of sitting in stadium seats. It's a nice place. Met a friend for a free showing of Love Actually ( Holiday gift from the owners ) and enjoyed myself very much! The pre-movie introduction by Bill was fun and entertaining, seats were comfortable, and the entire theater feels like home. The building is beautiful! What's a girl to do on a rainy night in the country??? Go to the movies at the Vickers. Wow! Super clean, quite civilized and with little cafe chairs in the back (I am not quite sure what those are for as I didn't notice real food being served.) This small gem of a theatre is the perfect cherry on the cake. Since this was my first time, I was delighted they were showing two films I had wanted to see but didn't get the chance at the film fest. Three Oaks is a nice, updated town with lovely shops, galleries, live performance, cafes and a cool movie theatre. Definitely the place to go rain or shine. read more

It is wonderful to have an indie cinema in SW Michigan. The Vickers is small, clean and friendly. The owner sells the tickets and usually makes a friendly, welcome "speech" before beginning the film. The theater is small so you need to get there much earlier than at a large venue. We usually arrive 30 minutes before showtime. Ticket prices are not cheap ($9) but that is understandable. Sure wish they served wine because it seems fitting for a small artsy place! read more

You can see movies at this theatre that you cannot see anywhere in the area. The movies and the theatre is excellent. The train that went through three times is a bit distracting. The center isle is also not the best, but probably required. I would definitely go again. read more

I like the theater and I like the movies that they play I just wish they played a larger variety. That being said I love going because its a cute movie house and they do play great films. They only accept cash so make sure to bring some! Its a great place to go when the weather is bad and you want a change of scenery. Its the only place to see independent films in the area. read more

Should have added my review when I went last year. Invited by friends and love this little indie gem. Highly recommend. Small and intimate. Saw "Tracks" about young woman's true experience trekking through the Outback. I'll be making a point of going in 2015! Also had a great meal in town across the street. Three Oaks has really been a favorite locale and has changed a lot over the years but always great. read more

This theater is a gem! It's an art house movie theater that showcases high-quality, interesting, largely non-commercial North American films. It shows a fair number of interesting foreign films with subtitles. Prices are reasonable and staff are friendly. It's a great place to go to catch a good flick and also a nice alternative when the weather keeps you off the beach. Wthout the Vickers nearby, I would have missed some great movies. We're lucky to have it in southwestern Michigan. read more

One of my favorite places to see films. This small theatre shows a fantastically curated selection of films. There's usually only a 2-3 films being screened but they're all critically acclaimed and accessible (not weird art house films). This theatre is the complete opposite of the multiplexes I've grown to hate- it's small, friendly, cheap, and shows great indie films. I love how the owner always comes out before the movie and speaks a little about it before it starts. I come for the friendly atmosphere and the great selection of films I can't always find at AMC. read more

In a world chock full of cookie cutter experiences, thank goodness for The Vickers. I've been a fan for many years and had forgotten just how lucky we are to have this singular experience in Three Oaks, Michigan. Recently saw Battle of the Sexes ( a period piece about the 70s-ha). Small and cozy, there is no bad seat, but the best seats are the cushy ones in the back, that surround a few glass-topped tables. Don't juggle your popcorn and water or (god forbid) soda, set it on the table and relax into the squishy arm chair. You won't be rendered deaf by the sound system and the picture is great from anywhere in the house. You won't have your choice of ten showings a day of new releases, but if you are an Indie film fan, it doesn't get much better than this. Hoping to live to be one hundred so I can get in for free some day. Ha! Pricing is scaled to age - senior, not senior and one hundred or older - - free. Popcorn fresh and the aroma wafts through the theater. I could randomly continue to sing praises, but for now, Bravo, Vickers. read more
