Love, Love, Love Dr. Bourland! She has been treating my oldest since she was 5 yes old and my youngest since she was born. This is my absolute favorite pediatrician! When my oldest was born she had severe issues with her weight. She was breastfed and with every check-up she was declining in weight range. We were seeing a different pediatrician at the time and we tested and considered numerous options. We even tried feeding her rice cereal a bit early to help her gain weight, but the poor baby was allergic and broke out in hives. After 6 months, and her weight dropping from the 30th percentile at birth to the 6th percentile, I decided to make a change and search for a pediatrician who would be more diligent in her efforts to find a solution. I did some research and found Dr. Bourland while she was still working with another office. I was impressed by our first visit and just a week later my daughter was vomiting, dehydrated, and Dr. Bourland advised us to go to the hospital. My daughter was there for 3 days while they monitored her and ran tests and although we never determined what the issue was, Dr. Bourland had a sense of urgency that I never experienced with the previous pediatrician. I was immediately put at ease that I made the right decision in changing doctors. That was 5 years ago and even after moving from SA to Houston and now to Dallas, Dr. Bourland is still the only pediatrician I trust with my kids and we have been back twice for visits since I relocated. Dr. Bourland's office is one of the few I can call with an emergency and get an appt same day. Her staff is friendly and helpful and I always feel at home when I'm there. They are on time for appointments and her diagnosis is quick, but ALWAYS accurate. I will need to look for a local pediatrician soon, but my family and I will miss Dr. Bourland dearly and will always remember her fondly. You cannot find a better and more caring doctor for your kids. read more

Dr Sarah Bourland is horrible. if you want your child to have complex please send to her, she has no problem calling your children obese to their faces (thank goodness it was my son, if it were a girl, it would have been devasting, with teen suicide at an all-time high, her behavior as a professional is unacceptable) son is not obese he is a running back and built/all muscle. She then proceeds to my daughter who has been on add medicine for over 10 years now. Daughter walks in last week and Sarah Bourland proceeds to shame her on why she needs her meds and accuses her of abusing them. (daughter has had 1 90 days prescription filled in last 12 months) I would not trust your children with her, absolutely horrible! read more

Dr. Rennard, wonderful pediatrician. unfortunately the office staff, horrible. every visit i ensured they did not need anything from me and they told me i was good. now, after moving to a different city and trying to get my child records sent over to the new pediatrician they are now telling me i owe $140. they sent me an itemized invoice. these charges are over 120 days old and one of the charges are where they "forgot" to collect a co payment. very unorganized. i would stay away from this office if i were you. read more

We are 1 month in with our first and Dr Storandt has been great so far. We haven't had any issues with the front desk staff that other reviews have mentioned. When we asked about those reviews, we were told it was issues with new staff at the time. We did have one visit where the room was so hot that the baby was overheating and I was feeling nauseated, and when we told the front desk, they just kind of shrugged and didn't do anything about it. But the next visit, the office was not as hot. read more

This Doctor claimed to have given my granddaughter 7 shots in one day. They took us to collections after one month of trying to negotiate the bill for $600 and us refusing to give us a copy of the shot records. I Will never let her go back to that horrible doctor's office! read more

We came here after Through the Years Pediatrics sold out to the devil. I LOVE Dr. Storandt. She feels like a partner in my kids care. She listens. I'm never rushed. And her nurse (a tall guy with the most gentle voice) is just a great human being. I've had various issues with the front staff but lately it's better. The doctors are friendly, the staff is nice, we almost always get same day appointments, BUT the doctors NEVER want to prescribe any medications. All we get is "let this run its course" my daughter will be sick for WEEKS and the doctors do NOTHING to help her get better other than recommending some children's Claritin. Be sure to fact check what the front office tells you insurance wise! I was told they accepted my insurance after giving them all of the numbers and information needed. Fast forward 3 appointments later, I was told they don't in fact take my insurance and I am responsible for almost $500 out of pocket for the 3 appointments. After 6 months of trying to get the doctor to call me or ask the billing department to understand what happened, I was denied any sympathy and was put at fault and forced to pay. I was told I should have double checked with my insurance to make sure and it's my fault for believing the front office and I better be appreciative that they even saw my son because they didn't have to since they don't accept my insurance. Just be careful with the front desk and when there comes an issue, don't expect the doctor to empathize with you or listen to what you have to say. read more

We relocated to San Antonio last year and I needed to get my daughter caught up on vaccinations. The initial nurse who came in was nice enough but didn't accurately get my daughters height. No big deal, I thought. So Dr. Storandt comes in and wow, she's not only a fast talker, but she has a personality tick where she keeps her eyes closed while talking to you. It's weird, but not a dealbreaker. Then we get to the vaccines my daughter needs you catch up on. There's 7, plus the optional flu shot. I mention I thought she already had the flu and 2 seconds later she pushes the shot again. She then encourages me to get ALL 7 SHOTS AT THE SAME TIME. I laughed because I thought she was joking. She said there would be no adverse reaction and again pushed getting all 7 at once. I told her no, and that I would feel better doing half. The nurse comes in with 5 needles (not the half I asked for) and asks me to put my daughter on the table and lay her down. I asked her if we could get 2 nurses to administer the shots since she was getting so many. I explained my daughter would be screaming the entire time and I wanted to minimize that. She laughed at me and said she was used to it. I told her I wasn't and asked for 2 nurses again. 20 mins later she walked in with another nurse, we pinned down my screaming daughter, and the older nurse told the younger one to leave. When I asked where she was going, she said 1 nurse could do it and just started poking my daughter. I'm never going back to this place again. read more

It absolutely pains me to write this review. I refrained from writing a review for years because I know that word of mouth is everything and it can damage a business. I had to make an exception after what I experienced today. My husband and I moved to TX from out of state and our daughter was behind on immunizations. We had her on a delayed schedule for multiple family history reasons but we are true believers in the power of vaccinations and the good they have done. Dr. Reynard walked in and looked at my husband and I and asked what we were doing today. I explained we'd like to get our daughter vaccinated and talk about a future schedule for her other vaccinations to get her caught up. Dr. Reynard asked why we were delayed on vaccines. I explained our family history (two cousins with autism, one with seizures on my mom's side after a prominent vaccine). Dr. Reynard's response, in an extremely unwelcoming tone was, "That was one kid." Then she tossed a pamphlet onto the edge of the hospital bed and said, "Here. This is proof that vaccines are not linked to autism. And just so you know, the guy who started all this anti-vaccination business lost his medical license!" I explained to Dr. Reynard I have no idea who or what she is talking about and that we came in today to get our daughter on track with her vaccinations and get her on a plan so she can be caught up at a reasonable rate. My husband's jaw was practically to the floor and he asked her why she was treating us so poorly. She responded, "I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm just so tired of having to educate people. I'm sorry ok." My 1 year old daughter, who I was holding in my arms, started to get fussy. I then said to Dr. Reynard that I truly did not appreciate how she was treating us and that we were here to get the baby some immunizations today and schedule the rest. I even told her again how we are pro vaccine and even have our Covid vaccinations. She said, "I already apologized. So what is it you're looking to do today?" At that point I told her we are finding another doctor. On the way out, I passed reception. They asked if I was ok. I started crying. They handed me tissues and apologized to me and asked if I wanted to speak to the doctor that owned the practice. I explained that I would call her because I was too upset. A couple hours later I called the practice. A person answered and said they were answering the phone from the back since reception was really busy. This person sounded like Dr. Reynard but I'm not sure who it was. She took my info down and said the owner would call me back. An hour or so later, Dr. Bourland called me and I thanked her for calling. I explained I have the utmost respect for all doctors as I come from a family of doctors. I thanked her for being a pediatrician especially during a time where so much has happened with Covid. I began to explain my experience there and Dr. Bourland said, "like you said, we're pretty busy with Covid and I have patients waiting, so I'm going to need to get back with them." I explained how we were treated, verbatim, and Dr. Bourland said, "it sounds like you weren't a good fit." I explained I respect the standard of any practice but if their practice didn't want to work with me to get my daughter caught up with a plan, why didn't they explain that nicely instead of raising their voice and treating us poorly. Dr. Bourland said, "I doubt any voices were raised, maybe that's your perception." I reiterated that was not my perception and it was the truth. She robotically said, "sorry you had a negative experience. I encourage you to continue your journey to vaccinate your child." I was so upset at that point that I hung up the phone. I have never in a million years experienced this treatment from a working professional. I was raised to treat everyone with kindness and compassion. I was nothing but kind a warm as was my husband. I might not have even left this review if Dr. Bourland would have at least seemed sincere when she reached out to me. Instead I was made to feel like I made the whole thing up and I was lumped in as an anti-vaccination person (nothing against any one who is anti-vaccines). I sincerely hope things get better for these doctors because maybe a string of bad experiences led them to treat my family poorly. read more

First let me start by saying, my kiddos have been patients for years, we moved and I continued to make the drive because we love the doctors.  I have never had an issue with any provider or any of the medical assistant.  Everyone of them are very respectful and welcoming. Now, it  has been almost every visit that I have had issue with front staff.  Wither it be not notifying soon enough if insurance issues have occurred, or collecting a co-pay and for a while always having to mail it back to me.  I even would tell them kept my credit on the account so didn't have to pay next visit.  Once they tried to collect and I told them I knew I had a credit, they proceeded to tell me I did not and had me wait 10 minutes to tell, my credit was over looked and now it magically was showing. When I took my daughter in Oct/Nov 2021, I updated my insurance and had issue with how I was spoken too and how they always collect and give me money back.  Well with years of the same issues, anyone would be annoyed instantly.  I did not see Dr. Bourland and saw Dr. Reynard.  At this visit I expressed my frustration with the office front staff.  Dr. Reynard told me with out using these words, was noted in her body language and facials.  I can hear you out  but I don't care and you would have to take it up with Dr. Bourland.  Again she did not use these words "I dont care" but this is how I felt my concerns was heard. Cut to today drama, I called yesterday to verify my kiddos appointments due to only receiving a message for one.  Now at this phone call if there was an issue with my insurance I should have been told about this issue, not at my check in.  I am very good about providing new insurance information.  Sometime my kiddo father does not update me on insurance change.  I knew my kiddos insurance was active due to other doctors appointments this month and my kiddos where seen with no issue.  I was very upset, this is not the first time and for me please notify me ahead of my appointment for issues. As I was annoyed and got upset super quick, kept in mind this is years of front staff issues.  I told the girl with glasses, did not get her name and she look like the office manager that has been there for years, that every time I come there some issue I'm being addressed at check in and its always her.  She told me it couldn't have been her due to her just starting at that office.  Again she looked like the other lady from before.  I give her the insurance card , then Dr. Storandt come out to hear my complaint, and the girl with the glasses tells her I'm upset my kids insurance is not active, when I was upset about being told at my check in that there is an issue with my kiddos insurance and proceed to say this should have been addressed when I called yesterday. Dr. Storandt is someone you can tell does not do well with conflict and was very unhelpful.  I kept telling the lady with the glasses to stop speaking to me I was not going to address her and she is the one who is making me get more upset, to which she proceeded to tell me  that I was the person making myself upset.  I tried to conversate with the other front girl and the doctor to which the girl with the glasses would not let them speak or and answer so of course if you have told someone you are not going to address them and they continue to speak without being spoken to, who is not going to get more upset.  I asked for my insurance card back and told them to cancel my appointments and I better not get charged.  I did do a petty thing and flick the girl off because it took all I had not call her every name in the book. As I got in my card I decided enough was enough with this office front staff.  I walked back in and asked for my kiddos patient records.  Dr. Storandt said ok and ask about my account.  Again instead of the other front girl addressing me this girl with the glasses proceeds to tell me I need to pay my 5.00 and some change balance before I get my kiddo patient records. This blow me beyond the edge.  First of all I believe it take people so much before the become a KAREN and this was it. I told Dr. Storandt I live more that 5.00 worth of gas to come to this appointment,  I was not going to pay that and by law they cannot deny me my kiddo records.  She  proceeded to say only Dr. Boarland does patient records.  Another excuse. read more

The office staff was extremely unwelcoming and Dr. Reynard was patronizing and rude. She didn't listen to my concerns about my two year old's eye, just kept writing on her clipboard. We came in for 2 well baby check ups, and she rushed the entire appointment. She was in too much of a hurry to properly answer questions I had let alone form a complete sentence of her own. We are on a delayed immunization schedule and her nurse threw a fit when I said that I didn't want my 12 month old to have EIGHT shots in one visit. So grateful to be under the care of Dr. Reynard as we navigate medical complexities with our baby. She's attentive & thorough & really looks at the whole picture of what we're dealing with. She has made herself available after hours & has pursued answers when communication between hospitals and specialists has been lacking. She has endured my "what if it's this scary thing I googled" questions & has answered me with both clarity and compassion. She helped me organize a binder to keep track of the mountain of labs, imaging and results from different specialists I was drowning in. She has gone above and beyond the call of duty to help our baby grow and be healthy, and even more to help empower me as a mom to care for and advocate for my baby. read more

I agree with other reviews here: the office staff is not good. They can be so very rude! Rude over the phone, horrible attitudes, and in person is the same They're also not very helpful. Do they realize I chose to take my children there? And my insurance pays them and I pay for a big chunk out of pocket as well. My daughter has been seeing Dr. Reynard since she has been at Acorn Pediatrics. My daughter is now 19 and still enjoys her visits. We are always treated with care, compassion and respect with my daughter's wellbeing constantly being first priority. While at all of our visits with Dr. Reynard we never feel rushed and she ensures all of our questions are answered. Let me start off with the positive... You can almost always get an appointment either same day or next day. My daughter has seen all three doctors in this facility. Originally we saw Dr Bourland and she was nice but we just do not agree on parenting styles. She told me i could let my 4 month old CIO in the middle of the night. Then she gave me some conflicting advice on starting my daughter on solids. One appointment she told me to "keep trying/ offering". So i did. Then the following appointment she told me I was over doing it. Mind you my daughter was never over weight or under. I was just annoyed. So I heard great things about Dr.Reynard so we requested to switch to her. And I must say she was definitely more in line with my beliefs and was more genuine. However since she is the most popular doc in the office it is hard to get in with her. Most recently we have seen Dr Storandt for my daughter's double ear infection. Which she has had for a MONTH. She has been on two different antibiotics and they have not cleared. Well the second to last time we were there we were told she would be given a shot which is stronger than the first and would help clear it up. But also to come back in a couple days to get the second shot. We got the first shot that day and we went in today to get the second shot and guess what they were out. One of the girls from the front desk told me "I dont know why you were scheduled for this we arent even ordering it anymore because the reimbursement is so low" Like whaaaat?!?!?!?! SERIOUSLY? This information would have been helpful a few days ago. Also why do I care what YOU are getting paid for on this shot? So unprofessional. All the other reviews were right the staff is terrible. I have noticed with Drs offices they can only be as good as their staff. The staff has been rude several times which I blew off because I know they deal with a lot day in and day out. But to drop the ball like this and her comment to me about reimbursement. I just cant recommend them at all. read more

Dr. Bourland and Dr. Reynard are both amazing with my daughter! They have been supportive throughout her first year, always available by phone or for last minute appointments. We are always seen within 5 minutes of checking in, a huge improvement over the last pediatrician we tried. I'm so glad we switched! One of the things I have appreciated the most as a first time mom is that they will listen patiently to my hundreds of questions, give advice when requested, and present both sides of arguments when I come in confused after reading the many contradictory opinions out there on parenting. I trust them and that means everything to us with our precious daughter. read more

This office is phenomenal. Typically you'll get either a great doc and a horrible staff, or vice versa. Every facet of Dr. Bourland's office is wonderful, from the front desk to nursing to the physician herself. She's very current on her medical knowledge, as well as being empathetic, kind and nurturing to my kids. My husband is also a physician and so we are VERY picky when it comes to practitioners for our children, and after trying a few offices in San Antonio we are ecstatic to have found this practice. read more

Horrible office staff. Promised to call me back and didn't. Doctor prescribed a medication and the office staff would not help with preauthorization. I had to pay an extra $100 since they would not give a diagnosis code to my insurance company. I won't be going back, and don't recommend this office to anyone. We've only seen Dr. Bourland. She's nice and sometimes apologizes for the staff mishaps. We were scheduled for a 4:30pm appointment once. The office staff didn't check us in until 5:30 (after the office officially closed). Dr. Bourland apologized but this was obviously not her error. There was also a dispute on an old bill because my kid has double coverage. They harassed me and his Dad over a $10 difference and threatened to send it to collections. They could not wait for the coordination of benefits to be worked out with Aetna. I just paid the balance even though it should have been covered under insurance and decided to stop going to this office altogether. Our new pediatrician is great. read more

I have two sons and had to find a dr when we moved to town and chose Acorn based on a recommendation because I prefer a small practice. We see Dr Reynard. She is patient and really spent time with my children to assess any underlying issues and noticed some symptoms of one illness I hadn't even noticed. I have moved often, so I've had four different pediatricians even though my oldest is only 5. I think she is among the best just based on two visits because of the ease of visits. I didn't experience any rudeness at all-- everyone seemed friendly and efficient. It was reassuring that when my son had a horrible cough, she really addressed it with medication instead of waiting it out-- some doctors seem to do that. However, I don't think she's too quick to prescribe something unneeded. (My other son had a virus and she didn't give us anything for it. Sure enough, he was better within 2 days) read more

Terrible front desk staff. They have new front desk wools every time I go in but they always seem to be just as bad as the previous. They are rude and when I called to speak to a nurse about my sick daughter, one was not available but the administrative assistant at the front went ahead and gave me medical advice. She told me I've been doing wrong by giving my 15 month old Zarbees all natural cough medicine and I should bring her In to see if she needs a nebulizer. (Eye roll) I have really tried to like this office. It just seems that time after time I'm left feeling like I did something wrong or am inconveniencing them for being there. Example: I had a 11am appointment on a Friday and was running SIX MINUETS LATE, when I called to let them know I was at the intersection near their office, he front desk lady was rude and rushed me because "Dr. Borland had personal obligations to tend to that afternoon and was going to leave after my appointment. We have had an excellent experience at Acorn Pediatrics. I've only had to wait once and that's because I was late to check us in for our appointment (new mom). Dr. Reynard was amazing at handling our newborn--her background in lactation was definitely needed and she made light (great sense of humor) of the typical new parenting fears. She teased my husband and it provided me great comic relief in the first weeks. Fast forward to year two, she recently gave us excellent advice when our little one turned two and was behaving difficultly-- i.e. Like a two year old. We have always been able to get in and also get a doctor to phone us after hours. read more

PROS: -Dr. Storandt, the nurse and front line staff are all wonderful -Last-minute appointments are easily made -The office is clean -Accuracy in billing -If a diagnosis is second-guessed, Doctors will confer with each other CONS: -I doubt Dr. Bourland's sincerity and accuracy. Examples: First, she called my toddler "borderline chunky" while my daughter was in the room with me. Although Bourland's assessment of my daughter's weight was accurate, I do not feel she approached the situation properly. A child should never be informed that they are "chunky" or made to feel self conscious about their weight. Rather I would have appreciated discreet literature on the matter or a follow up call/email. Secondly, she said my daughter no longer needs snacks which thoroughly confused me. I followed up with a pediatric nutritionist who stated Bourland was absolutely wrong, and that at my daughter's age snacks should consist of 30% of her daily caloric intake. Third, my son has been on antibiotics 8 times in a 5 month period for chronic ear infections. At the end of every visit for an ear infection diagnosis she would always say "I see tubes in his future". What would have been far more appreciated is her actually counting the number of ear infections (without my asking) and taking action to get us in that direction. Thankfully our insurance does not require a referral which has allowed me to get tubes for him without relying on her assistance. Fourth, she suggested if my daughter really needs a snack to give her a handful of nuts and at that time my child was below the AAP nut recommendation of 4 years old due to choking hazard. read more

I don't know what it is about San Antonio and the difficulty in finding a good doctor. Meh, I've definitely experienced better. She was not warm or friendly, which I really don't mind, didn't do a complete check almost "afraid" to get germs, is my guess? I felt like she didn't want to be there and that's the "doctor". I have been taking my son to Dr. Sarah B. Since he was born and she has continuously been great, the staff great, one lady I think that works the counter at times has been short but I don't think rude, maybe just overwelmed, or busy. But I don't think that should deter anyone. The doctor and her staff always have been able to get my son in while sick within hour or so of calling. That is amazing in itself:-) love this place and considering taking all my kids even though 2 are in highschool. read more

We love this place from the themed rooms, to the really nice waiting room, from the front office staff and MAs, to the docs. They just moved into a new bigger location (still within the same office area - just another building), which was a good decision. We see Dr. Reynard, but had a few visits with Dr. Bourland. Both excellent and knowledgeable, very good with my daughter. Getting appointments the same day has never been an issue. The staff is always friendly and most importantly returns messages within several hours. The wait time can be a little long at times, but hey, they are working hard to see all the sick kids on the same day, so I get it - things can get busy. read more
